The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 786: Chapter 786 This is Just the Beginning

The Xin Prince was tearful and snotty, but he finally secured the assurance from Emperor Chu, leaving the palace satisfied alongside Song Zhiyuan.

”Speaking of which, I must thank the matriarch and the young master of your mansion, otherwise I would again have to face the pain of a white-haired elder sending off a black-haired youth. Prime Minister Song, my status is awkward, so I won’t visit in person to express my gratitude, lest it makes things difficult for you,” the Xin Prince said bitterly.

Song Zhiyuan responded, ”Saving a life is more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda. My mother is a believer in Buddhism, and she did what she could. With the young prince’s great fortune, if not led astray, he will surely have a safe life ahead.”

The Xin Prince, however, sensed the underlying meaning in his words, feeling even more bitter in his heart, ”In fact, it’s been decades since Great Xia’s downfall, and we have long accepted reality. In his generation, the world has changed entirely. Now, the Xia family is only slightly better off than ordinary commoners. As long as we can continue, even becoming commoners is not out of the question.”

They are just enduring, just to survive, aren’t they?

”As long as the Xia family remains compliant, they will not be unaccommodated. The Emperor has the magnanimity, so the Xin Prince can be at ease,” Song Zhiyuan reassured.

Upon hearing this, the Xin Prince finally relaxed his heart, after all, Song Zhiyuan was the Emperor’s most trusted close minister, and his words were the most credible.

”With this, I am relieved,” the Xin Prince said.

Song Zhiyuan paused for a moment and then said, ”Actually, Prince, instead of worrying about whether the Emperor will act against the Xia family, you’d better worry about those rebels. Those people have a grudge for reviving Xia Country, and it’s become an obsession. This is just the beginning.”

The Xin Prince turned pale.

”Prime Minister Song’s words are clear to me, and as I always say, the only legitimate heir of the former Crown Prince of Yong is Princess Chongyang, the rest are all impostors of the rebels,” he said firmly.

Prime Minister Song smiled faintly.

”Regardless, I am deeply grateful for the life-saving favor. Please convey my gratitude to your matriarch,” the Xin Prince solemnly performed a bow to Song Zhiyuan and said, ”In the future, I will surely offer a generous gift in return.”

Song Zhiyuan exchanged a few pleasantries, returned the salute with cupped hands, and watched him get into the carriage and leave. Only then did he sigh in relief.

In the Imperial Study, Emperor Chu listened to the report of their interaction, his eyebrows unperturbed.

”This favor from the Song Mansion is well-deserved,” he said plainly.

Those below the throne did not respond.

”Is there any news from Quanzhou?”

The kneeling person looked up and presented a small bamboo tube, ”Just received a secret letter.”

Eunuch Zhou stepped forward to hand it to Emperor Chu.

Emperor Chu opened the small bamboo tube, took out the small rolled-up paper inside, and read the densely packed tiny characters, his brows furrowed.

”Let him continue to investigate thoroughly, and look into the people he served at the age of six.”

”Yes.”

Emperor Chu waved him off, his expression tinged with irritation. Eunuch Zhou then asked, ”Your Majesty, the Empress sent a Sedative Soup, it’s being kept warm, would you like to drink it?”

”No need, I want some peace and quiet, you may withdraw.”

”Understood.”

Eunuch Zhou bowed and exited the hall, listening intently to the sounds inside. Before long, he heard the sound of a cup shattering inside.

At the same time, in a secret chamber within the capital, an old man looked at the man with his back to him, with a cold expression, saying, ”Those are also your lord’s blood relatives, your actions are truly dissonant, and the Xia family ancestors would not approve of such doings.”

The man did not turn back and said coldly, ”Blood that kowtows to the Chu dogs, it’s better not to have. As long as I restore Great Xia, the ancestors will eventually forgive me. After all, great accomplishments don’t focus on trivialities. It’s just a pity for that old Xin Prince, at least someone will send him off.”

The old man’s heart chilled slightly, pressing his lips, ”They will not sit idly by and wait for death.”

The man turned around, his handsome face shifting in the dim light, ”Do you think I fear that?”
