The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 780: Chapter 780: Kid, you’re totally blowing up

Who would have thought that Song Lingzhao would want to trade his own merits for an Imperial Decree for his own mother? Not even his twin brother expected that.

Song Lingjie glanced at his elder brother and smirked, thinking, is this some strategy to prepare more backup for a future escape?

One must admit, you really are a sly one.

Song Lingzhao: I didn’t, I’m not, you’re talking nonsense!

Song Zhiyuan stepped forward at this moment, somewhat helplessly addressing Emperor Chu: ”Your Majesty, this young one is dreaming absurdly and speaks nonsense often. Please forgive him.”

He glared at Song Lingzhao.

Emperor Chu smiled warmly: ”As the head of the family, you’re being overly cautious. He’s just a child, truly sincere and filial, where is the fault in that? Is filial piety a crime?”

Song Zhiyuan cupped his hands.

”Young lad of the Song Family, have you thought this through? If I grant your mother the Imperial Decree, it won’t concern you anymore. Actually, you could earn a small official post if you want to. Aren’t you going to regret it?” Emperor Chu hinted.

Song Lingzhao replied: ”I won’t regret it, Your Majesty. It’s not easy for my mother to raise me, what’s there to regret about earning an Imperial Decree for her? As for fame and fortune, I will earn my own official post and establish my merit by myself in the future.”

Depending on his abilities, not relying on rewards.

This embodies the pride he has cultivated.

”Good.” Emperor Chu, smiling, said, ”Then let it be at your wish.”

Upon saying this, he did not specify whether there would be a reward or not but led his ministers to depart back to the palace.

This assassination issue isn’t fully resolved, making him take the blame — truly a cunning move.

Song Lingzhao was a bit dazed, did he just leave like that?

”Grandmother, will there be a reward or not?”

Song Ci teasingly spread her hands.

Song Lingjie patted his shoulder and said, ”You fool, an Emperor’s promise is worth a thousand gold pieces, how could there be no reward? Just wait at home.”

Song Lingzhao’s eyes lit up slightly.

People around congratulated the Jiang family, saying they truly had a good son.

Seeing the people gathering around, especially those ladies and young girls sneaking glances at Song Lingzhao, Song Zhicheng felt a chill and said, ”It’s chaotic here, mother, let’s head back home.”

Song Ci understood this was not the place for talking, moreover, she was physically and mentally exhausted, so she nodded.

The people of Song Mansion quickly left, being escorted away.

The other families saw this and dispersed as well; with the main characters gone, what else was there to see?

However, on this day, this young lad of the Song Family was bound to become famous, and there were rumors that he was not yet betrothed.

The Emperor recognized him for his filial piety, meaning his future could not be unimpressive, and with his father being a man of integrity, surely the child would follow suit and not act recklessly.

Family status, appearance, skills, character, they were all visible to the eye; was he not an ideal match?

Ah, time to send the matchmaker.

In the carriage heading back to the mansion, Song Lingzhao sprawled wide inside, looked at Song Lingjie, and asked, ”Little brother, what kind of Imperial Decree do you think the Emperor will bestow upon our mother?”

”What can it be, our father is a commoner, even if he were granted a position, it would be merely a nominal one without real power. For our mother, being granted the title of Sixth Rank Lady for the sake of the Song family would already be something.”

Song Lingzhao felt a bit regretful, but soon laughed and said, ”Sixth Rank is still better than no rank at all; at least she will be Madam. As long as you and I climb above the Fifth Rank in the future, she will be elevated to an Imperial Decree.”

”Hmm.” Song Lingjie raised an eyebrow and asked, ”But did you plan to exchange the reward for an Imperial Decree long ago? You’re really something.”

”You’re talking nonsense, I don’t have as many schemes as you do.” Song Lingzhao placed his hands behind his head, looked up at the carriage ceiling, and said, ”I simply couldn’t stand those people speaking behind our backs, calling mother a merchant’s daughter every chance they got. Besides, as men, shouldn’t we protect women? Our mother, our sister, we should all protect them.”

Song Lingjie laughed as he lay beside him, ”You’re right, you’re great.”

”Don’t idolize your elder brother, I’m always your brother and the eldest son of the second house.”

”Oh, shut up already!”
