The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 787: Chapter 787: The Xia Family No Longer Has Hope of Turning Things Around

Prince Xin returned to the Prince Xin Mansion with a weary look, only to see his old wife coming up to greet him.

”How is it? Does the Emperor want to punish me?” the Princess murmured fearfully.

Prince Xin cast a sidelong glance at her, saying, ”Now you’re afraid, but what were you doing back then? You speak recklessly without considering the consequences.”

The Princess wore a mournful expression, saying, ”I didn’t think so much at the time. Seeing Che’er lying on the ground without a trace of movement, his little face pale, I thought our mansion was doomed with no hope left, and death seemed like an easy way out.”

Seeing her only grandson without a sign of life, how could she worry about the magnitude of the disaster?

Dying together might be simpler; after all, they’ve lived through enough turmoil over the years.

In the end, the grandson was brought back to life, and she felt a surge of surprise and excitement. Yet, beyond that joy, she started to realize the recklessness of her words and feared the Emperor would seek retribution in the future.

”The Emperor is mindful of your emotional turmoil at the time and doesn’t hold you accountable,” Prince Xin said.

A delighted look spread across the Princess’s face, ”Is this true?”

”Why would I lie to you? If it weren’t true, you’d already be facing a piece of white silk or a cup of poison by now.”

Hearing this, the Princess’s expression turned awkward, ”I’m just afraid he holds a grudge, you know how we’ve lived all these years. We don’t dare stand out or act high profile, always under surveillance.”

”And you know, he hasn’t acted against the royal relatives all these years, so why act now? There’s no reason for it,” Prince Xin said with a tinge of desolation. ”In truth, he doesn’t have to do anything. There is no hope for the Xia family anymore; none of these people can truly rise.”

The Princess pursed her lips, barely audible, ”Even if someone could rise, would they ever have a day in the spotlight?”

Not addressing this, Prince Xin said, ”Rather than worrying about the Emperor, it’s better to worry about the rebels under the former Crown Prince, who supposedly seek to restore Great Xia. Those people have already acted against the Xia clan.”

The Princess was taken aback.

”Back then, I personally led people to open the city gates to welcome Emperor Xiaoren into the city. Those people might think I betrayed the country, and now they’re coming after Che’er with deadly intentions.”

The Princess’s face turned ashen, her lips trembled, ”This... this...”

”From now on, you and Mrs. Zhou should keep a close eye on Che’er, don’t let him wander around. Arrange more people when he goes out, and spend these years studying peacefully in the mansion and clan school. I refuse to believe they can surpass the Emperor; he will surely catch them,” gritted Prince Xin.

The Princess licked her lips, gently saying, ”If the rebels win, can we...”

”Don’t even think about it; they can’t win,” Prince Xin said with a grim expression. ”I don’t hope for their victory either. If they win, we have no way of surviving. Those who act against us now, do you expect that thing to treat us like honored guests?”

The Princess felt as if a basin of ice-cold water was poured over her head, chilling her to the core, like the canal water after being overturned.

”Also, the Song Family, at least they are Che’er’s saviors. You and Mrs. Zhou should prepare some generous gifts, send them over with an elegant steward, but there’s no need to go in person.”

”Not in person? Perhaps I should make a personal visit.” Prime Minister Song is a vital minister to the Emperor, and building friendly relations could benefit Prince Xin Mansion.

”There’s no need; after all, it’s a delicate position. Why make things difficult for others?”

The Princess felt another wave of oppression in her heart.

”Go ahead, and make sure to console Wen Ru’s families, and help them with the funeral arrangements. I’m heading to the study,” said Prince Xin, walking out with his hands behind his back, still needing to carefully draft that command.
