The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 797: Chapter 797: The Wedge Knife is Sharp and Accurate

Song Zhiqing listened to Bai Shuilian’s words, feeling deeply unsettled.

The old Madam has always disliked children born of concubines, and as for myself, even though she has a smile on her face, who knows how much disdain she harbors inside, merely maintaining the decorum expected of her.

It’s only that fool Song Zi, treating her as if she were her birth mother. But she didn’t crawl out of her belly; how could it be the same as being born of her own?

Now, they’re all grandchildren, but just because of the label of being born out of wedlock, she won’t even spare them a glance?

Bai Shuilian noticed his sullen expression and quickly said, ”Sir, I’m not criticizing the old Madam, I understand there’s a difference between close and distant relations, I just feel sorry for Huan’er and the others, they suffer so much.”

This wedge was driven in precisely and deeply.

”Such a difference between close and distant relations.” Song Zhiqing felt a pang in his heart again.

”Sir, you’re hurting me,” Bai Shuilian timidly exclaimed.

Song Zhiqing was startled, lowered his head and saw that he had unconsciously gripped her hand, and quickly released it. Her wrist was already red, and he immediately felt deep remorse: ”Lian’er, I’m sorry, look at me, so unaware, does it hurt a lot?”

Bai Shuilian shook her head.

Seeing her so docile, Song Zhiqing’s heart softened further, saying, ”Don’t worry, Lian’er, what others give us is never as good as what we ourselves have. As long as I, their father, have prospects, they will be without worry.”

”Easier said than done. Talented as you are, you’re still at a disadvantage due to your background, and you have the Prime Minister above you. I...” Bai Shuilian sniffed, ”I wish to help you, but I am just a woman without a powerful family background or wealth. Even if I want to accept Consort Xiao’s invitation to attend a poetry gathering, I need Madam’s approval.”

Song Zhiqing frowned, ”When did this happen?”

”Two or three times. You know I’m Madam Luo’s cousin, and I got along well with Aunt Zhong when staying at her house. Because of these familial ties, Consort Xiao wanted to speak with me,” Bai Shuilian frowned, ”But I’m just a mere concubine, going out isn’t easy, I always need Madam’s permission.”

Song Zhiqing felt stifled, once again held back by those damned rules.

But he didn’t utter any foolish words about letting her go out freely, he only suppressed his anger and said, ”Next time the Prince Xiao’s Mansion sends an invitation, you don’t need to plead with her, tell me, and I’ll find an opportunity to take you out myself.”

”Can we do that?”

”Why not? Even if she doesn’t agree, you can ask our eldest sister-in-law to intercede. You’re not a mere concubine but a legitimate one, wanting to attend a banquet, why wouldn’t they allow it?” Song Zhiqing said indifferently.

Bai Shuilian leaned against his chest and said, ”I must consider your reputation. I can’t do anything or help, it’s burdensome for you to worry about us and it drags you down.”

Ah, family, true love indeed.

Song Zhiqing was deeply moved and said, ”In this whole mansion, only Lian’er understands me. As long as you treat me well.”

”You are my beloved husband, the father of my children. We, mother and children, prosper and suffer with you, who else should I treat well if not you?” Bai Shuilian sighed lightly, ”I only hope you rise step by step, gain more power and influence, so that in the future, Huan’er and the others won’t have to be inferior in marriage prospects because of their birth.”

Szz.

The knife stabbed deeper, blood flowing profusely.

Song Zhiqing said viciously, ”Don’t worry, I won’t let such a thing happen, nor will I let them follow in my footsteps. I’ll make proper arrangements for them.”

”I believe you,” Bai Shuilian leaned on him, eyes full of reliance.
