The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 771: Chapter 771: What a Brilliant Show

Dong dong dong.

The drums beat thunderously.

The dragon boat race began, and people on both sides of the river erupted into enthusiastic cheers and screams.

Even the madams and young ladies of noble families couldn’t mind their shyness, looking down altogether, oh my, those little calves are really something.

”Go, Song Xiao’er!”

Song Ci stood up and shouted with vigor.

Whoosh whoosh whoosh.

All eyes shot toward Song Ci like arrows.

Song Ci: ”...”

Such intense attention, like the scorching sun, was unbearable for the old me.

She was pressed back into her seat by her nanny and picked up her fan to wave it slowly, pretending to be solemn and composed.

Not far away, Madam Dingguo covered her face with a fan, laughing as she said to the nanny beside her, ”That Old Madam Song never seemed so amusing before, but now she’s quite the playful old rascal.”

Though Song Ci rarely attended banquets in the capital before, she’d been seen, and it seemed to her that Song Ci’s temperament was now much more carefree and open than before.

”Old Madam Song was seriously ill a couple of years ago, almost couldn’t make it, I heard. Now that she’s recovered, she’s probably come to some realizations.” Nanny Luo spoke softly.

Having heard this, Madam Dingguo felt a bit reverent and said, ”Having a brush with death often lends new perspectives.”

People in ancient times held great reverence for spirits, and she was no exception.

Song Ci held up her binoculars, watching as Song Lingzhao’s dragon boat sped forward, smiling with squinted eyes.

A casual turn of the lens, and she found herself staring straight into a pair of eyes, which startled her so much she almost dropped the binoculars.

Lowering them to look, she saw the owner of those eyes smiling and nodding at her.

It was Prince Min.

Song Ci awkwardly smiled and nodded back, thinking to herself, what a bother, why does seeing him make my heart so uneasy?

”Old Madam Song is quite a character, don’t you think, Princess?” Prince Min asked the Princess beside him.

The Princess Consort of Prince Min had been watching the dragon boats below. Upon hearing this, she gazed at him and responded coolly, ”You might have asked the wrong person, Prince.”

Prince Min: ”...”

He had forgotten, this woman appeared in public even less frequently than the other, and being kept so sheltered, she had probably never encountered the old madam of the Song Family.

”It was my mistake.”

The Princess Consort of Prince Min gave him a dignified smile and turned her gaze back to the dragon boat race.

Prince Min’s eyes flickered softly as he rubbed the bead necklace on his wrist.

On the throne, Emperor Chu also withdrew his gaze from Prince Min and his consort and turned to ask Song Zhiyuan, who stood nearby.

”I heard your household has someone in the race too?”

Song Zhiyuan replied with a smile, ”Indeed, it’s my nephew, Lingzhao, on the sixth dragon boat.”

The Emperor looked down and saw that the dragon boat was already in the lead, then said, ”Is he the twin brother of Ye’er’s study companion, named Lingjie?”

”He is.”

Emperor Chu accepted the binoculars handed to him by Eunuch Zhou, looked down, and soon spotted a young man who looked exactly like Song Lingjie, though they shared the same appearance, their demeanor was entirely different.

Song Lingjie had a scholarly air, the type who pursued a literary path, whereas this one was like a little calf.

Raising an eyebrow slightly, Emperor Chu said, ”This lad is like a calf, all muscular, does he usually practice martial arts?”

Song Zhiyuan’s heart skipped a beat, just as he was about to respond, Song Lingzhao’s dragon boat suddenly accelerated, reaching the finish line, and one of the people on the boat leaped up, grabbing the flowered banner at the finish pole, a pompom made of willow branches and colorful silk ribbons.

It was his family’s Song Lingzhao.

Song Zhiyuan: ”...”

Quite a show.

Your Majesty, no need for me to answer now, right?
