The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 695: Chapter 695: The Old Lady Predicts with a Finger Calculation

Shang Pu stared at the bowl of pitch-black medicinal liquid in front of him, his thin lips pressed into a straight line, not reaching out to take it for a long time.

Meiniang’s hand trembled slightly as she softly said, ”Langjun, it’s cold, you should drink it while it’s hot.”

Shang Pu glanced at her and said, ”Seeing this medicine reminds me that the end of the month is near.”

He took the medicine from the tray and drank it all in one gulp, the bitterness and indescribable taste rushing straight to his stomach, almost making him gag. He merely furrowed his brow slightly, calmly took a candied fruit from the small dish on the tray, and put it in his mouth, as if he was already accustomed to it.

Meiniang let out a breath, put the tray aside, and noticed that he was already standing by the open window, his figure thin and frail, evoking a sense of pity.

She picked up the cloak draped over the chair and walked over, placing it over him, ”The snow and ice are about to melt, but it’s still cold. You’re standing by the window, and it’s open. You must keep warm.”

Shang Pu allowed her to drape the cloak over him, speaking without turning his head, ”This body is just living day by day. If one day the medicine can no longer be found or is of no use, then this body would just be like this.”

Meiniang’s hand stiffened, her voice somewhat distant, ”There will always be a good day.”

Shang Pu turned his head to look at her, mocking, ”You think there will be?”

Meiniang opened her mouth, and after a while, her voice seemed almost ethereal, ”I have sent someone to the Southern Border to seek help.”

Shang Pu looked at her intently for a moment before saying, ”Was that just now Princess Consort Ji’s entourage? And also Madam Song and Princess?”

”Yes. Madam Song has bought some seeds again. This Madam has unusual insights, and Meiniang feels she doesn’t appear to be a simple farmer’s woman.” Meiniang shared her opinion and mentioned a few words that Song Ci had said.

Shang Pu caressed a bracelet on his wrist, ”If she were just a simple farmer’s woman, she wouldn’t have been able to raise a Prime Minister Song.” Pausing, he added, ”However, such remarks are indeed quite unexpected.”

”Does Langjun need to investigate her further?”

”No need.” Shang Pu said lightly, ”An old lady who is on her last legs might survive one challenge but not necessarily the next. Moreover, she has long been overworked and ill, and the older one gets, the faster the body deteriorates.”

People, sometimes they have to admit to aging. No matter how ambitious or intelligent, one cannot fight the decline of the body; this is fate.

Good health is the greatest asset.

Shang Pu looked at the bulging veins on the back of his hand, his eyes cold with storm clouds swirling in their depths.

Sitting in the carriage, Song Ci sneezed twice, took a sip of the hot tea from Nanny Gong, and said, ”I bet someone is cursing me right now.”

Maybe even a curse.

Nanny Gong: ”I see, today your role is that of a sorcerer!”

As for Princess Consort Ji, she kept thinking about that brief encounter with Shang Pu, so much so that after returning to the Prince Mansion, she appeared still a bit listless in front of Prince Min.

Prince Min: ”Consort, you seem to have something on your mind. Could it be that you were offended by someone thoughtless during your outing today?”

Princess Consort Ji playfully scolded with a smile, ”If such a person exists, what would you do?”

”What would I do? As your son, it’s natural to protect Consort and make those thoughtless ones regret it.” Prince Min’s face was solemn.

Princess Consort Ji raised an eyebrow, ”But it was actually the legitimate mother of Prime Minister Song you’re asking about. How would you hold her accountable? She has strong backing!”

”Is it Madam Song again?”

Princess Consort Ji huffed, ”Yes, it’s her. Today Consort and your cousin-in-law went to Xiazhi Foreign Trading Company and ran into her and Princess Anping. That old lady truly boasts quite the authoritative air!”

Prince Min paused in raising his cup, did they go to Xiazhi Foreign Trading Company?
