The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 655: Chapter 655: Clashing Backings

The matter of Song Ruqi’s miscarriage, although not widely spread, was known to all the family members who should know. An endless stream of tonic gifts was sent to the Duke Ying Mansion.

Eldest sister Song Ruqian, upon hearing the news, was so infuriated that she fainted on the spot, disturbing her own pregnancy, and could not go personally. In truth, she didn’t dare to go either. After all, both sisters being pregnant was supposed to be a great happy event, but now that her sister had miscarried while she herself was fine, wouldn’t her presence be like a stab to her sister’s heart?

Therefore, Song Ruqian didn’t dare to appear before Song Ruqi for a while, but sent a trusted nurse along with a cart of tonic gifts and a capable servant, Madam Cheng.

This Madam Cheng had some knowledge of medicine, was good at preparing medicinal dishes, and was calm and reliable, someone Song Ruqian trusted deeply. By sending her to be by her sister’s side, the intention was to both help nurse Song Ruqi back to health and support her in other ways.

As Song Zhiyuan thought, Song Ruqi was young and inexperienced, and the people around her were not capable enough, leaving opportunities for others to exploit. So by sending Madam Cheng over, it showed the sisterly care.

Song Ruqi, upon learning her elder sister’s intentions, felt grateful and moved, yet also somewhat sad.

Since Song Ruqian sent over someone skilled in medicinal dishes, the Commandery Princess, who was also the fourth aunt, wasn’t stingy either. Besides sending a cart of tonic gifts, she also sent a skilled maid, specialized in protecting Song Ruqi.

Having a martial arts-skilled maid was incredibly reassuring. After all, women are inherently weaker, and with propriety between men and women, it’s not always suitable to have male guards accompany them everywhere. If something happened in those inconvenient places, it would be disastrous.

This maid was not merely capable of fancy but useless martial arts; she was genuinely trained by a master from the Green Forest.

Of course, outwardly, the maid was just described as an ordinary girl with basic skills, not advertised as someone guarded by top-class protectors to deter potential troublemakers.

It’s always more effective to keep one’s trump card hidden until the right moment.

Having suffered such a loss, Song Ruqi naturally knew the lesson and placed the maid named Changsheng in the second-tier maid category, not too conspicuous, but her monthly salary was that of a first-tier servant.

Niu Pan’er made an expression, and second aunt, Madam Jiang, could only send tonic gifts. Madam Lu, on the other hand, sent her daughter, Song Ruwei, over.

Not intending to let Song Ruwei serve as some concubine or anything frivolous, it was more about Song Ruqi’s health being harmed by the miscarriage. Afraid that she might fall into despair, they sent a sister from her natal family to stay with her for some days, providing companionship and mental comfort.

Anyway, the actions of the natal family reflect the Song Family’s attitude, indirectly telling those at the Duke Ying Mansion that the third lady, despite the miscarriage, has plenty of support from a formidable background.

With such an attitude from the Song Family, the Duke Ying Mansion dared not treat her lightly. The Duke’s Madam waved a large hand, and a stream of tonic gifts flowed into Ming Garden, making Madam Xiao Liao envious and resentful, muttering sarcastically about how being of noble birth made a difference.

Indeed, one’s birth determines the strength of one’s stance, and a valued married daughter will be regarded more highly by her husband’s family. Especially when her natal family is the Prime Minister’s Mansion, and her father is favored by the Emperor.

In addition to all this, the Prime Minister’s Mansion also hinted that the Duke Mansion should quickly investigate the matter of the bracelet hiding banned drugs. After all, the origin of this item is unknown, and the person behind it remains hidden. Should they just allow her to cause trouble from behind?

Just a day later, someone from the Duke Mansion came with news—the investigation into the drug hidden in the bracelet had results!
