The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 657: Chapter 657: They are all Cunning

The heir’s wife of the Duke Mansion, Mrs. Lu, due to her inability to manage the household and her need to care for the heir, voluntarily handed over the household management rights. The Duke’s madam couldn’t refuse and only asked her to temporarily take care of the heir, while she would temporarily manage the household affairs.

Song Ci laughed upon hearing this: ”Look at the Duke Mansion, who here isn’t a genius? The British Duke surely chose a wise wife for the heir, her temperament and magnanimity are worthy of praise.”

Mrs. Lu said: ”The heir’s wife is indeed willing; she handed over the household management rights just like that.”

”She is a smart person, naturally willing. At this moment, handing over the household management, she gains peace, especially since something just happened with Qi’er. It’s a time where people would be blamed and vent their anger; if not handled well, it’s easy to offend others. Rather than that, wouldn’t it be better for her to hand over the household management rights and stay in her own courtyard, taking care of her husband and children?”

”To be frank, although someone was proposed as a scapegoat, the matter is not clear-cut. Handing over the household management is, firstly, to avoid suspicion and show her stance, and secondly, to temporarily avoid the limelight. She is the legitimate heir’s wife and has managed the household for many years; the people are used to her. Now that she hands it over, she won’t suffer a loss, and sooner or later she can take it back.”

Upon hearing this analysis, a few daughters-in-law indeed understood the reasoning.

”Therefore, in such a family, there are no fools. After this incident with Qi’er’s innocent and pure nature, I hope she can learn a lesson and won’t fall into the same trap again,” Song Ci said, taking a sip of tea.

Everyone remained silent.

Madam Song, however, had some dissatisfaction and said, ”Mother, shall we just swallow this loss? I’m always worried if we can’t pull out the people behind this...”

”If it was done by those two sisters-in-law, they won’t dare to do it again. On the contrary, if Qi’er gets pregnant again, they will protect her because I have already warned them. If the same thing happens again, it’s their doing, and to prove their innocence, they wouldn’t dare to make the same mistake. Similarly, the British Duke’s madam wouldn’t allow such a thing to happen again either; after the bracelet incident, she also has no face.”

Upon hearing this, Madam Song fell silent once more.

”If Qi’er wants to find out the truth, she can only investigate it privately,” Song Ci said. However, he felt that it would just be a futile endeavor because it involved a forbidden medicine from the previous dynasty, which was too difficult to obtain.

Mrs. Jiang and Mrs. Lu exchanged a glance, providing comforting words to Madam Song in unison.

Madam Song offered a bitter smile: ”Seeing her suffering now, I don’t even know if the marriage I arranged for her was good or bad.”

If it were a simple family in the rear courtyard, how could such painful things happen?

Mrs. Jiang sighed: ”When it comes to arranging a marriage for Yuanyuan in the future, I will definitely choose a family with a calm and unpolluted rear courtyard. With too many women, there is more foul competition, which I cannot bear.”

Mrs. Lu felt uneasy, as her daughter Wei’er would also need to be arranged in a few years; what then?

Song Ci observed the expressions of the people and said, ”No matter what kind of family it is, life is made by oneself. A simple and noble family is naturally quieter than a noble family, but there are also ups and downs in the rear courtyard. How life turns out all depends on oneself; people create their own destinies, you must remember that. No matter the choice, character determines fate.”

The several women immediately stood up and curtsied: ”Daughter-in-law is instructed.”

As the women were discussing, the patriarch Song Zhiyuan also welcomed a guest, the British Duke.
