The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 677: Chapter 677: The Vision of the Legitimate Eldest Daughter

Hearing Madam’s words, Song Ruqian’s smile also faded, followed by a sigh.

Who wouldn’t feel regret?

She got pregnant three months after marriage, and it was a boy on the first try, yet he was lost amidst the sinister schemes of the inner residence, which is not only regrettable but also heartbreaking.

”Knowing that Qi’er miscarried, half of my heart was dug out, yet I dare not go to visit her.” Song Ruqian said with a bitter smile, ”I don’t even know if she would resent me, her sister.”

Madam clicked her tongue: ”What foolish things are you saying? It’s right for you not to go now. You both were pregnant together, now that she’s like this, she’ll inevitably be sad, and won’t be able to come out of it easily. We have to wait for her to get through it, or else if she gets agitated, she might suffer hysteria.”

Though the words made sense, the heart was still clenching with unease.

”When she finishes her confinement, I will definitely go visit her. Mother, please tell me, what was the situation like that day?” Although the servants brought back news, it wasn’t as detailed as hearing it from mother.

Madam said succinctly with a slight temper, wiping her tears when she got to the sad parts.

Song Ruqian hurriedly comforted, ”Mother, don’t be upset, it’s my fault for a moment forgetting that you are also nurturing a pregnancy, yet brought up your sorrowful matters again.”

Madam took a deep breath and said, ”It’s nothing, really. Speaking of this matter, it always leaves one uneasy. Not to mention, the real mastermind hasn’t even been found out.”

Song Ruqian, the eldest legitimate daughter, was meticulously raised and educated since childhood, and married into a distinguished scholarly family, naturally broadening her perspective.

She pondered for a moment, then said, ”Mother, no matter who is found out, they will not be dealt with openly. They will surely push a scapegoat to take responsibility. Qi’er and Qi San were granted marriage by the Emperor, so the Duke Ying Mansion wouldn’t dare make a mess. I guess, perhaps they discovered something, but it’s highly implicated, or out of their expected range, leading to such a result.”

With hesitation, Madam said, ”I’ve heard that a nanny from the Duke Ying Mansion’s side died suddenly.”

Song Ruqian’s pupils contracted sharply.

”Your father said it wasn’t the Duchess, but rather that the nanny seemed to be a spy.”

Upon hearing this, Song Ruqian felt a bit serious: ”If so, then it’s not just a matter of the inner residence, I’m afraid it involves the Court.”

Madam, too, seemed reserved and after a long time said, ”It’s all unfortunate. I was too indulgent with her, thus her lack of judgment about people’s hearts lead to such a great loss.”

”From now on, she will learn the importance of being guarded.”

”Let’s hope so.”

Song Ruqian smiled, ”But as you said, grandmother showed a lot of dominance and wisdom.”

Madam nodded, ”I was also a bit surprised. Your grandmother, she dotes on you more, as you are the eldest granddaughter. Yet, she wasn’t very fond of Qi’er. When Qi’er was born and she glanced at her, it was hard to hide her disappointment. But now, she even personally went over to support that girl, silencing the Duchess and the others.”

”Grandmother is sharp-tongued but soft-hearted, always protective. You always say she only values male heirs, but truly, in the entire Great Qing, which family doesn’t value male heirs? Although grandmother places more importance on grandsons, she never mistreated or scolded her granddaughters.” Song Ruqian praised Song Ci warmly.

Madam scolded, ”I know you are protective of your grandmother, no need to praise her in front of me. Aren’t you afraid this mother will get jealous? I’ll admit she’s all good, doesn’t that satisfy you?”

”You too are sharp-tongued but soft-hearted towards grandmother, which shows, isn’t it? Like mother, like daughter!” Song Ruqian said charmingly.
