The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 653: Chapter 653: Whose Motive is Greater

The Duchess of England watched Song Ci and Madam Song leave, and let out a sigh of relief, finally ridding herself of the troublemakers.

The entire day had left her physically and mentally exhausted, feeling noticeably aged.

And to top it off, before leaving, that old woman Song Ci subtly reminded her about the bracelet, saying it was better to investigate thoroughly than to let others tarnish her reputation. But unpleasantly, it was just to say she couldn’t shake off her association with the bracelet incident!

Half her life, the Duchess of England had been living smoothly, who would have thought gifting a pair of bracelets would stir up such trouble?

”Aunt, that Madam Song is truly outrageous, acting as if she owns the place, waving her hands and ordering people around in front of you. It’s simply unreasonable and overstepping her bounds... ah!”

Young Mrs. Liao covered her face, looking at the Duchess with shock and fear.

”Aunt?”

Why did she hit her?

”Was it your doing?”

Young Mrs. Liao’s pupils contracted as she knelt down with a thud, saying, ”Mother, what are you saying, what have I done?”

The Duchess of England gritted her teeth and lowered her voice, ”You’re still denying it? When the bracelet was bestowed, you were the one who played with it out of discontent. Did you know about the hidden compartment in the bracelet all along?”

There was only one pair of bracelets, but the Duchess of England had three daughters-in-law. She could only gift two, so she naturally gave them to the Lu family and the Song family, because their statuses were higher.

But was there no compensation for young Mrs. Liao? She was given a tourmaline South pearl chain as well. When she asked to play with the bracelet, she allowed it.

But, in the end?

The people around her were all trustworthy, besides young Mrs. Liao, who else had touched the bracelet?

Young Mrs. Liao loudly proclaimed her innocence, saying she only played with it for a short time, even in the presence of her mother-in-law. Whatever she did, wouldn’t her mother-in-law know?

”Mother, if you’re suspicious of me, you might as well suspect that Lu family member. What’s my motive? My background is not high enough to threaten the Lu family’s position, but Song Ruqi is different, she’s a daughter of the Prime Minister’s Mansion.” Young Mrs. Liao said sourly, ”She got the bracelet and might have accidentally discovered the mechanism while playing. Then she could have discreetly swapped it like Madam Song said, with no one knowing.”

The Duchess of England’s eyes flickered, and naturally, the suspicion of the Lu family was significant.

”Alright, let’s say you don’t know about the bracelet, what about Su Qing? Do you dare to swear it wasn’t you who directed her?” The Duchess glared at her sharply.

Young Mrs. Liao was startled, ”Mother, I’ve already said, what motive do I have?”

”You mean to say you’re not jealous of her? You claim it wasn’t you, yet when Madam Song accused you, you were quick to jump to your defense? That cunning old woman is certain it’s you. Confess honestly, was it you? Swear on the future of your son, Zhang Er!”

Young Mrs. Liao almost swore back. Zhang Er was her legitimate son, yet she’s using him to threaten her?

But she dared not!

Young Mrs. Liao stuttered, ”I, I just casually mentioned that if Song Ruqi were to lose the child, and she had one, it would be the first-born son. Aunt, how could I have known she’d take it seriously? I was just speaking carelessly!”

”You, you fool, so it was indeed you!” The Duchess of England trembled with rage.

Young Mrs. Liao crawled forward, hugging her legs, saying, ”Aunt, I just couldn’t stand her arrogance, so I said it casually. Not only does she look down on my background, but she also looks down on you. It’s only Song Ruqi who’s noble. I, I was just blinded by anger when I said it! I truly didn’t do anything to her.”

”Get out! You useless fool, get out of here!”

The Duchess was as angry as a fighting rooster, ordering people to take her out, then smashed a set of Rain Cleared Sky teacups in fury.

All these incompetent fools holding her back, it made her furious.
