The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 665: Chapter 665: Prince Min Takes Over

The news of Song Zhiyuan’s assassination attempt spread to the morning court, leaving everyone in shock. Emperor Chu was furious—how could the guards in the entire city be so useless when a court minister was attacked on his way to the court meeting?

This time it was an assassination attempt on a current minister; next time, will they storm the palace to assassinate the Emperor and the Empress Dowager?

The Emperor’s anger sent chills through the ministers, tightening their nerves, especially the head of the Military Department in charge of the capital’s security and the Governor of Shuntian Prefecture, who were trembling in fear of losing their hats of office.

Emperor Chu issued several decrees to ensure the security of the capital. He didn’t want his ministers to be so fearful on their way to court meetings, always on guard against masked assassins.

He certainly didn’t want to see his trusted ministers die at the Emperor’s feet, as that would be a slap in his face.

For now, the assassin matter was set aside. After discussing several government affairs, Emperor Chu suddenly granted a marriage, and the person to be married this time was Prince Min. And the chosen partner?

Everyone felt a subtle change and instinctively looked at Prince Min.

What have you done to make the Emperor treat you like this?

The official wife set for Prince Min was surprisingly the Commandery Princess of the previous dynasty, the most awkwardly positioned one, Xia Yu, the illegitimate daughter of the former Crown Prince Yong, who was titled Commandery Princess Chongyang.

As for this Princess Chongyang, she is only twenty-one this year, born ten years after Crown Prince Yong’s imprisonment. The year she was born was also the year Crown Prince Yong went mad and died, which was also when Emperor Chu ascended the throne. To show benevolence, he sent Princess Chongyang to be raised in seclusion with the Xia clan’s Prince Xin.

Though Princess Chongyang was illegitimate, she was the only bloodline of the former Crown Prince Yong, making her status noble but always reclusive. If it weren’t mentioned now, very few would even remember such a person existed.

Even those who did remember probably only sighed, given her sensitive and awkward status, whoever touched her would be unlucky. That’s why, even at twenty-one, no one dared to engage her, as everyone tacitly chose to selectively forget.

The old folks who remembered such a person might think this bright pearl would be maintained in honor until she dies alone. Marriage was impossible, as no official would risk their future for such a burden.

But now, she has been granted a marriage, and her partner is even a diamond bachelor.

This marriage grant is an excellent opportunity for Princess Chongyang to step into the sunlight, but for Prince Min, it was a stroke of bad luck.

The Emperor granted this marriage, ostensibly as a reward and comfort, but it was merely to appease the Xia clan. Poor Prince Min won’t gain any benefit from it; instead, he’ll be constrained everywhere.

Imagine, a Commandery Princess from the Xia Dynasty, and being that Crown Prince Yong’s bloodline, how could Emperor Chu not constantly watch her, guarding against the former dynasty’s remnants from seducing her into some revival scheme of Xia Dynasty?

By focusing on Princess Chongyang, Emperor Chu was essentially focusing on Prince Min. To put it bluntly, everything was under the Emperor’s watchful eye.

Many people speculated conspiratorially, perhaps the Emperor was wary of Prince Min; after all, his fief was incredibly wealthy, so the Emperor granted him such a burden as his official wife, subtly warning him not to cause trouble.

And having married such a burden, Prince Min could kiss any easy life goodbye.

Oh, there’s no telling if he could even have legitimate children, in case the kids grow ambitious to rebel, thus giving the Emperor a chance to oversee his whole family.

So, this begs the question: did the Emperor plan this to provoke or suppress Prince Min?

The choice rests with Prince Min; if he wants to peacefully remain as a Vassal King, he shouldn’t dream of love and kids, instead, dutifully bring her over from Prince Xin Mansion for continued upbringing.

In common parlance, just a ”catcher of a bad break!”

Poor Prince Min!
