The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 692: Chapter 692: A Virtuous Wife Brings Prosperity to Three Generations

The novelty from the Western Countries, Song Ci, having seen more advanced things, naturally wasn’t too surprised, but Princess Anping exclaimed in amazement again and again.

Compared to Song Ci’s focus on those foreign seeds, she was more fond of those exquisite novelties and jewelry.

”I’ve long heard that the Lady has grown potatoes, oh, I heard it’s been given a new name, potatoes?” Meiniang said to Song Ci with a smile: ”The Lady has truly bestowed great fortune upon the people of Great Qing.”

”You exaggerate, I merely stumbled upon growing them by accident,”

Meiniang’s eyes glimmered: ”You are being too modest, this is not something that can be grown just by accident. These potatoes are Western imports, and before you, no one in Great Qing had grown them. It is not an overstatement to say that you are the reincarnation of Shennong.”

Song Ci secretly remained cautious in her heart and smiled, sighing: ”You know, if one does one right thing in a lifetime, it is not in vain to come to this world. I only happened to do one more right thing than others.”

”Oh?”

Princess Anping also looked over curiously.

”The first right thing was my farming; the second, well, was raising a good son.” Song Ci laughed and continued, ”In the past, during hardships, facing the soil with our backs to the sky, we truly dreamt of growing more food. The feeling of hunger was unbearable; you young people wouldn’t understand, those times were so harsh, we even tried Guanyin soil.”

Everyone fell silent.

It was said that during the wars, there was a great drought one year, with no food, causing even the wars to pause. It was during that time when rumors of cannibalism arose due to starvation.

Princess Anping, feeling uneasy, said, ”The hard days have passed. Now our Great Qing’s granaries are full, plus with these potatoes, you needn’t worry.”

”That is thanks to Heaven blessing Great Qing, and the Emperor’s diligent governance and love for the people that people can have good days. As for me, an old bone, what can I do but ponder over farming and eventually achieve something.”

Princess Anping praised, ”People always say that there is a close connection between mother and son; it seems that Prime Minister Song inherited his ingenuity from you, no wonder he became the Emperor’s right-hand man.”

Children’s education is very important, for from their words and deeds, one can glimpse the quality of their parents. As for the old Mr. Song, let’s not mention him much, a wealthy idle man without much presence, and the fact that he didn’t drag down the family is an achievement in itself.

But as the House Mistress, Song Ci must have poured countless efforts into the children of the family, thus we can see that her education is not inferior to that of mistresses from ordinary noble families.

Therefore, even as a farm woman, it is rare to see someone with such a clear mind and foresight. A virtuous wife prospers three generations, and the Song Family has truly been blessed with luck, raising such a child bride.

Meiniang naturally joined in with a couple of praises and had some exotic flowers and seeds brought out for Song Ci to select.

Song Ci said, ”Every trade has its master. In fact, some vegetables and fruits in Great Qing now are also imported from overseas. I just feel that as long as there’s no lack of research, they can eventually be grown. It’s just a matter of needing more exploration and study compared to overseas people, and spending more time. If we could exchange and learn from overseas people, who knows, we might acquire the experiences we lack and thus take fewer detours.”

Meiniang was somewhat surprised.

Princess Anping’s eyes slightly brightened.

”You mean diplomatic exchanges with overseas countries?”

Song Ci nodded, ”Yes, you could say that. Exchanging some talents, engaging in scholarly exchanges in each other’s countries, I think it’s quite good. As the Saint said, in an association of three, one can be my teacher.”
