The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 676: Chapter 676: The Old Clam Embarrasses Others with Its Pearl

Song Zhiyuan attended the morning court, while his eldest daughter Song Ruqian came to visit. Despite her illness, she had to come and visit after learning of her father’s assassination, especially with her mother’s condition not being well. How could she be at ease?

Song Ruqian first took her daughter Tiantian to see Song Ci, spent some time chatting with him, and was thoughtfully sent off by Song Ci.

”I know you’re worried about your mother, go ahead, leave the child with me, and Yuanyuan is here too, let the nieces play together.” Song Ci smiled and said, ”I don’t know if the roads are slippery, walk carefully.”

Song Ruqian smiled and agreed, gave a courteous bow, and was escorted to the main courtyard by the servants and maidservants.

Madam had long heard that her eldest daughter had entered the mansion, sitting on the bed anxiously awaiting. Only upon seeing her did she smile.

”Mother.” Song Ruqian went over, not yet bowing before her mother waived it, sitting by the bed holding her hand.

”The weather is cold, and it snows from time to time. Your body is heavy now; you shouldn’t have come.” After Song Ruqi’s miscarriage, Madam paid more attention to her eldest daughter’s pregnancy, afraid of any mishaps.

Song Ruqian retorted, ”Upon hearing that father was attacked, and your health is not well, even if it’s snowing daggers, I must come. Unless I see with my own eyes that both of you are well, I cannot be at ease.”

”Rest assured, your father only suffered minor injuries, he even attended morning court today. As for me... it’s merely an old clam bearing a pearl, the pregnancy isn’t very stable.” Madam felt some rare embarrassment and shyness.

At her age, nearing forty in a few years, with a grandchild already, she became pregnant again, the child would be younger than the grandchild.

It’s truly embarrassing.

Song Ruqian pursed her lips and smiled, ”There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. You and father are a loving couple, in perfect harmony, it’s a blessing many long for but cannot have.”

”Others will still say I’m at this age, an old clam bearing a pearl.”

”They’re just envious of you, many long for a loving couple, no concubines in the house.” Song Ruqian took her hand, saying, ”Mother, don’t listen to what people say outside, you’re the legitimate wife, the rightful one carrying the legitimate heir, what’s laughable about that? Look at grandmother, didn’t she give birth to our youngest uncle in her forties?”

”Indeed.” Madam lowered her head, stroking her belly, sighing, ”Just don’t know if this child can be kept.”

”What did Doctor Lin say?”

”What else can he say, just leave it to fate, see if we mother and son are destined. Even the gynecologist, Imperial Physician Liu, said the same. So you see, I can only lie down, even when tired, I can only lean but dare not move much.”

Seeing her worried expression, Song Ruqian quickly held her hand and said, ”Mother, don’t be too pessimistic, look at everything positively. As long as the pregnancy is stable, it’s fine. Right now, don’t think too much, don’t worry, just focus on taking care of yourself.”

Madam nodded, ”I know. Just hoping Heaven will be kind and let this child stay. If it can be a son, Su’er will have more support in the future, and you two sisters will have another brother to rely on.”

Song Ruqian smiled and said, ”As long as the child is born healthy, does it matter if it’s a boy or a girl? In our family, daughters are just as cherished and noble.”

As their father’s rank rose to first-grade official, the stature of the Song daughters increased as well, so what if it’s a daughter?

Madam fully agreed, her gaze dimmed as she looked at her bulging belly, ”The greatest pity is still your second sister.”
