Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

”There’s one more thing, the Sea King and Skyray want to talk to you.”

”No meeting! Just handle it directly, inform me when you need me to step in.”

These two seem not as clever as Li Quan’an...

They haven’t positioned themselves correctly.

Upon hearing Wen Yu’s words, Fran stopped discussing these issues, but didn’t hang up the communicator. Fran hesitated and was half-spoken before asking Wen Yu.

”Well, Lin Haifeng just contacted me. He mentioned the issue he discussed with you. Have you made a decision now?”

”...”

”Let’s talk about it later, I have another matter to handle.”

”I think... never mind, after you handle your matters, let’s have a good discussion.”

As the communication ended, Wen Yu briefly fell into contemplation, while Fang Yuqiong remained silent.

Fang Yuqiong was very smart—smart enough to guess what the two were discussing...

About the issue of the Commander-in-Chief of Yanjing.

...

From the will that Lin Haifeng prepared in advance, one can fathom Lin Haifeng’s thoughts at the time.

The will stated that Fang Yuqiong should become the Commander-in-Chief of Yanjing—back when Wen Yu decided to drive out the Demigod’s forces on the tiered battleground, Lin Haifeng might have anticipated that this would develop into a full-scale war, potentially worrying about his own safety at the time, or he might have set this plan in motion then.

At any rate, Lin Haifeng wanted to hand over the position of Commander-in-Chief of Yanjing to Fang Yuqiong.

At that time, Fang Yuqiong didn’t show fear towards the battlefield, and coupled with a temperament more suitable for leadership than Lin Que, these combined elements led Lin Haifeng to make a wise decision.

He presented Lin Que to the Oath Taker, possibly intending to eliminate Fang Yuqiong’s competition.

But now, this doesn’t seem all that appropriate.

For the plan, Fang Yuqiong killed Lin Haifeng, which is nothing to be discussed—Fang Yuqiong not only did nothing wrong, but actually rendered great service.

However, running away on the battlefield is indeed a blemish—why did Yanjing establish the position of Guardian in the past? Because the commander’s combat capabilities weren’t strong enough.

Lin Haifeng always used charisma and superb intellect to avoid this flaw, but Fang Yuqiong’s weakness was plainly evident before he even took office.

This is also evident from Kasu’s attitude toward Fang Yuqiong; the patience of Yanjing’s top brass on this matter is very low.

In the apocalypse, a leader who can’t fight might still be a good leader, but their subordinates will always feel something is missing.

Additionally, with the sealing of the Demigod and Earth’s will, the situation between the tiered battleground and Earth has changed once again. From now on, they are unified, and Wen Yu holds absolute dominance.

Thus, Lin Haifeng devised an unconventional solution—make Wen Yu the Commander-in-Chief of Yanjing while abolishing the Guardian position!

Let Wen Yu have unrivaled authority in Yanjing, to say one goes with one!

Or to put it more plainly, Lin Haifeng is handing over Yanjing; he wants Yanjing, once the strongest power, to completely merge into Wen Yu’s hands!

The boldness Lin Haifeng displayed genuinely impressed Wen Yu, and upon careful thought, this matter is indeed negotiable.

Unexpectedly acquiring the full power of Yanjing, although Wen Yu wasn’t too interested, he had to admit that Yanjing’s overt and covert strengths are truly formidable—at least not weaker than the Soul Puppet Legion.

If Wen Yu agrees, it means his conventional power expands more than double, along with Yanjing’s talent pool, internal affairs handled by Fran and the intellectual Lin Haifeng, and strength... well, no need to mention that.

In short, absorbing Yanjing only adds another title atop Wen Yu’s head, without causing the hassle of ”sitting in the office dealing with daily affairs.”

The only thing causing Wen Yu hesitation is the ”bond.”

Being in the position, one must fulfill the responsibilities. Wen Yu has always been serious about responsibility, but given the world now boils down to ”apart from the Demon Tribe, there’s Wen Yu and Yanjing,” Wen Yu’s responsibility towards Yanjing seems relatively less.

Without internal resistant forces, Wen Yu need not make unnecessary compromises for the sake of ”the greater good.”

Thus, Wen Yu deflects using ”let’s talk about it later.”

But in fact, this is truly negotiable, just as now, Wen Yu has more important matters.

Concerning his eighth soul!

...

The coordinates for the eighth soul provided by Star Praying are located in the depths of the Pacific Ocean.

Wen Yu, accompanied by Fang Yuqiong, headed straight to the target location; as for why he brought Fang Yuqiong...

Wen Yu didn’t know... but after completing the mission, considering Fang Yuqiong had no pressing matters, Wen Yu couldn’t just say ”Why don’t you go?” to this person of merit, so Fang Yuqiong wanted to follow Wen Yu, and Wen Yu simply let him.

The two, one in front and one behind, quickly reached the area of the target location. Upon arriving at the site, Wen Yu suddenly stopped.

Fang Yuqiong didn’t understand until after waiting for about ten minutes, when they saw waves rising in the distance, a huge shadow slowly approached and stopped in front of them.

...

It was a giant whale.

With a length of ten thousand meters, the whale looked like a moving mountain in the sea, its light blue skin continuously emitted a slight chill, freezing the seawater but quickly dispersing.

Wen Yu remained still, while Fang Yuqiong took a slight step back—he could sense the power contained within the whale was no less than his own.

Clearly, this was one of the hidden aces of the Sea King Tribe...

The two exchanged glances with the giant whale for about ten seconds before two figures appeared atop the whale.

Two clansmen of the Sea King Tribe leaped off the whale, quickly arrived before Wen Yu, and humbly greeted him before explaining their purpose.

”His Majesty the Sea King sensed Lord Wen Yu’s arrival and assigned us for support.”

Wen Yu showed no expression, but deep within, a ripple arose.

”I’m not here to see the Sea King... I want to go to XXX, XXX, XXX at these coordinates.”

The two Sea King clansmen exchanged a glance, then smiled bitterly as they said to Wen Yu.

”Lord, the location you wish to visit is right where His Majesty the Sea King is situated...”

They paused, then explained in more detail what Wen Yu mentioned.

”Deep Blue is the main city of the Sea King Tribe, but as you know, His Majesty the Sea King is a tribal will entity, and his residence is not in Deep Blue but within our tribe’s ancestral ground.”

”The place you mentioned sits within the range of our ancestral ground.”
