Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

It’s often said that the tiger’s might persists even after its death. Lin Haifeng had just passed away a few hours ago. Although some people, for various reasons, were eager to elect the next Commander of Yanjing, respect and admiration were emotions that could not dissipate in a short time. These feelings would instead reach their peak shortly after one’s passing.

Just like right now.

Upon hearing that Lin Haifeng had left a will, Kasu fell silent. He only took the will from Fran, opened it, and carefully examined the handwriting and seal. After a while, he passed the will to Qin Tian.

”Since it’s the Supreme Commander’s will, I have nothing more to say...”

Among the people at the table, it seemed Kasu was the least scheming.

Qin Tian also took the will, examined it closely, then showed a contemplative expression. He pondered for a while before handing the will to Fang Bai.

”Seconded...”

Lin Tianxue’s son as the Commander-in-Chief of Yanjing... it might actually work...

In truth, for Qin Tian, it didn’t matter who became Commander-in-Chief. He remained the Sequence Number 4 — now Sequence Number 3 — the military strength of Yanjing. The reason he said so much earlier was purely due to personal emotions.

When it came to personal emotions, Qin Tian could be said to be the most experienced among those present.

Fang Bai took the will, looked at it carefully for a moment before closing his eyes and speaking.

”I oppose!”

”I still propose Lin Que as the Commander-in-Chief of Yanjing, identity issues can be addressed, and even if his administrative abilities are weak, we old folks are here, aren’t we? The key is Lin Que’s pure bloodline. I don’t know my father’s intention in making this will, but I still believe Lin Que would make a better Commander-in-Chief than my son.”

”I agree with my father’s will.”

Lin Tianxue, after reading the will, expressed her true thoughts.

Fang Yuqiong took the will, said nothing, and just passed it to Lin Que.

Lin Que looked at the will, his eyes reddened once again, he took a deep breath several times before sighing and saying.

”Since it’s Grandpa’s will, I have no grounds not to comply. I agree for my brother to become Commander-in-Chief of Yanjing.”

In fact, whether Lin Que wanted to become Commander-in-Chief... that is open to discussion.

However, Fang Bai’s veto still brought the proposal to an impasse until Fran once again took on the role of the host.

”How about this... Let’s vote, Lin Que and Fang Yuqiong, the two candidates, everyone present is entitled to vote!”

Everyone present included not just those at the table, but all the high-ranking officials of Yanjing in the entire restaurant.

”Lord Wen Yu, please create a black box.”

Upon hearing this, Wen Yu immediately waved his hand to gather darkness energy, forming a perfectly square black box. Then, under everyone’s gaze, Wen Yu took a napkin and wrote ”Wen Yu” in large characters on the paper with precision.

This was taken as a joke; in fact, nobody believed it...

Then, the servant held the black box, and the ”anonymous” voting procedure began...

...

To say it was anonymous... it was naturally a joke...

The black box was made by Wen Yu, and he clearly knew who wrote what. The count of votes for each person was communicated to Fran via Wen Yu.

Fran’s face remained expressionless, but deep inside he started screening who might be the Demigod’s informant — the class wouldn’t be too high; at the very least, Fran, Kasu, Qin Tian, and some sequences of Yanjing wouldn’t be turned by the Demigod, but later joining powerful experts, it was uncertain.

Amusingly, there were indeed 3 people who wrote down Wen Yu’s name — obviously, the kind of small fans of Wen Yu...

A while later, after the voting ended, the servant placed the black box back in Wen Yu’s hand, and Wen Yu began to announce the votes.

”Wen Yu, four votes... Hmm, I cast one vote, and there are three more... Tsk tsk, why not consider making me your Supreme Commander? I feel this might also be nice...”

Wen Yu’s statement evoked a wave of good-natured laughter — although what Wen Yu said wasn’t funny, a cold joke depends on who tells it, doesn’t it?

”Alright, not joking with you... these four votes are void!”

After speaking, Wen Yu swiftly turned the four votes in his hand into ashes.

”Fang Bai, 103 votes!”

Approximately a tenth of the votes — even though Fang Bai clearly stated that he did not want to be Commander-in-Chief, some disagreed, as his prestige was still quite high.

”Fran, 13 votes!”

Old Man Fran’s quiet dedication was acknowledged by everyone, but when it came to the next Commander of Yanjing, blood relations were indeed a major issue — plus, with Lin Que, Fang Yuqiong, and Fang Bai all being competent, it couldn’t come to Old Man Fran.

No one ever heard of a caretaker becoming the master...

”Kasu, 2 votes, oh, you’re even worse off than me... void, void!”

”Qin Tian, 3 votes, that’s two more, these are void as well!”

This was essentially a discard — the five people who wrote down Qin Tian and Kasu, are all their old subordinates, the die-hard loyalists.

”Lin Tianxue... 98 votes.”

Even though Xiao Xue was interned for over a decade, there were still those in Yanjing who remembered the name of Ms. Tianxue, who once served as the goodwill ambassador of Yanjing, often visiting schools to see children, indeed left an impression among Lin Que’s generation.

Many of the votes for Lin Tianxue came from Yanjing’s new generation — although this vote count did not affect the overall outcome.

”Lin Que... 376 votes.”

This vote count was nearly a third... mostly cast by war-supporting factions, making the results evident.

”Fang Yuqiong, 458 votes!”

Voting concluded!

Lin Haifeng’s will certainly played a significant role, but the influence of the Demigod’s informants also had some effect — based on the performance, Fran now determined that about a dozen people were surely Demigod’s informants.

The number wasn’t large, nor could it be too large, yet under these informants’ operations, a considerable number of Yanjing’s high-level officials were persuaded to choose Fang Yuqiong, altogether contributing to about a hundred votes.

Not too many, but indeed impactful to the situation.

...

”Thus, the voting has ended.”

After Fran declared the end, the venue was suddenly swept by a cacophony of discussions — it was evident that many were dissatisfied with the result!

Fang Yuqiong’s retreat in the Level 8 demonic tide had severely tarnished his reputation!

It wasn’t until Fran called for silence three times that the chatter gradually subsided, and then Fran spoke again.

”Then, the matter is settled...”

The discussion resumed, yet an out-of-the-blue cough subdued the dispute.

After the cough, Wen Yu finally put down his utensils and began to speak slowly.

”Let me say a few words...”
