Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Lin Tianxue’s words were interrupted by Lin Que, who was at the same table.

He glared, eyes wide, at Lin Tianxue, seemingly unable to believe that his aunt would say such things.

However, apart from Lin Que, Wen Yu, Fran, Qin Tian, Kasu, Fang Bai, and Fang Yuqiong at the same table remained silent—given Wen Yu’s position as chairman, there was no need to speak more, Lin Haifeng’s family naturally held chairs, Fran’s status was special, and Qin Tian and Kasu were Yanjing’s current military representatives.

This table gathered all those in Yanjing who had a voice.

”Auntie! Grandpa just died, what do you mean by saying these things?”

Lin Que’s tone was unfriendly, seemingly forgetting the respect due to elders, yet Lin Tianxue just gave him a glance and then sighed softly.

”Lin Que, I know you’re upset... but do you understand what time it is now?”

”The threat of the Level 8 demon plague has not been eliminated, the Yanjing relocation has not been properly arranged, tons of miscellaneous tasks abound! Father’s death saddens me too, but some things can’t be delayed. Why, do you think we have time to mourn the deceased here?”

Simple, quick, direct to the point—very characteristic of the old Lin Family’s identity and personality traits.

In contrast, Lin Que seems a bit childish.

”But...”

Lin Que still wanted to say something, yet Fran beside him tugged at Lin Que’s sleeve, signaling him to be quiet.

”I think Xiao Xue’s words are very fair... there are many matters at hand, we do need a new leader.”

The current external environment of Yanjing... isn’t good...

On Earth, there’s the threat of Demigods, the tiered battleground dominated by Wen Yu’s family has lost Yanjing its former status—in worse external conditions, trivial matters multiply!

Moreover, with Lin Haifeng dead, should Yanjing not choose a leader? Impossible... this must be done eventually, doing it earlier is more suitable, more appropriate.

Even though discussing these things just hours after Lin Haifeng’s death feels improper, disrespectful to the deceased... in the apocalypse, there’s truly no time for ceremonial niceties.

Many have died, Lin Haifeng is just another one.

”You all!”

Upon hearing Fran’s words, Lin Que looked around in amazement...

Yet aside from Wen Yu who continued picking food and sipping wine, the entire dining hall of about a thousand people sat upright, none responding to Lin Que’s gaze directly.

Choosing a new commander sooner... benefits everyone!

”I propose Lin Que!”

Lin Tianxue ignored Lin Que’s reaction entirely, voicing her first thought.

”This child has a proper character, strong military ability, and importantly, he carries the Lin name. I think no one is more suitable than Lin Que.”

Lin Que looked astonished at his aunt, seemingly not expecting her strong support in such a crucial matter...

Wasn’t it once your intention to push your son forward? Why play such a card now?

But the fact remains... Lin Que is still too young!

”No! Lin Que is not suitable!”

The one who spoke was Qin Tian at the same table...

”Although he is a Lin, don’t forget... Lin Que currently is not with Yanjing! He’s an Oath Taker! And not even a leader among them, just a small soldier under Moka... is this identity suitable?”

When Oath Takers were formed, Lin Haifeng booted Lin Que out from Yanjing’s military ranks... yet now, Lin Que’s identity is being used as a leverage against him...

After speaking, Qin Tian sneaked a glance at Lin Tianxue, both displaying a ”you know” look.

Whether planned or not beforehand is unknown, but it seems these two might rekindle old flames.

Fang Bai pretended not to notice, yet Wen Yu perceptively sensed green light flashing above Fang Bai’s head...

Lin Que was utterly speechless, but waves of discussion arose in the hall.

Emotionally, Lin Que succeeding Lin Haifeng seems rightful—as the eldest grandson, Lin Que’s qualifications are indeed adequate.

Yet in rationale, it’s disputable.

Though Lin Que’s former reputation in Yanjing was impressive, he currently doesn’t belong to Yanjing, which is indeed a fact.

If Lin Que qualifies to be Yanjing’s commander, does that mean Demigods qualify more? Does Tang Haofei qualify too?

Their former reputations in Yanjing were no lesser than Lin Que’s...

”Actually, I think we should consult Lord Wen Yu’s views, what you’re discussing now is futile, who Lord Wen Yu appoints should be who it is.”

The one speaking is Kasu.

This guy lacks much ulterior motive, thus sees the situation clearer—Wen Yu is sitting right here, hence obviously has a say.

He speaks, dare not listen?

Kasu claims what you’re discussing is pointless, Wen Yu’s word is law—he doesn’t follow Wen Yu, just follows absolute might.

Yet Wen Yu simply swallowed a bite of beef, shrugged indifferently.

”It’s your family matters, I won’t get involved...”

One sentence cleanly absolves responsibility. Indeed, it means the greatest variable is gone...

”I choose Fang Bai!”

Qin Tian spoke again, but this time, Fran countered.

”No, Fang Bai is not suitable either, he isn’t blood-related to Commander Lin... I bet Commander Lin wouldn’t wish to see an outsider wielding Yanjing’s great power.”

These words are undeniably blunt, yet Fang Bai remained silent—he had no intentions of competing for Yanjing’s Supreme Commander role.

”Actually, I think Yu Qiong is still a good choice.”

Fran already shifted the topic to Fang Yuqiong, but in response Kasu merely snorted.

”Him?”

Disdain unveils ”Not Hiding At All”—Kasu’s straightforward nature paired with his might, prestige, and fame meant he didn’t have to fear Fang Yuqiong, leaving Fang Yuqiong showing bitter helplessness, unable to muster any rebuttal.

”Yes, him!”

”Firstly, in regards to blood relations, excluding Lin Que, only Yu Qiong fits best. Secondly, in capability, though his battlefield performance may lack, his governance skills are commendable, which I can vouch for—he’s much like Commander Lin, thirdly...”

Here Fran paused slightly, retrieving a paper from his space ring and continued.

”Before his death, Commander Lin drafted a will, specifying that Fang Yuqiong should succeed him after his demise. You can view this will, check the handwriting, stamps, anti-counterfeiting marks yourselves...”
