Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 347: Chapter 136: Overwhelming_1

Hearing the words of the Ancient Demon spawn, Kuangliu slowly straightened, gazing at the Ancient Demon spawn with calm, unwavering eyes before slowly speaking.

”Is this amusing to you?”

The Ancient Demon spawn shrugged, casually crushing another Isolation Barrier to ensure its continuous operation before speaking.

”It’s alright, I suppose. Teasing you weaklings occasionally serves as a little diversion before a battle.”

Hearing the Ancient Demon spawn’s words, Kuangliu nodded slightly, then scanned the remaining high-ranking military leaders from the various nations and gripped his battle saber tightly!

The next second, everyone else present sprang into action!

Lightning crackled from the battle saber in Kuangliu’s hand. Simultaneously, a massive White Tiger phantom enveloped him, and the violent power instantly blew out the entire conference room!

Some professionists below Level 4 were slammed against the Isolation Barrier by the immense force, collapsing to the ground, their condition unknown.

Everyone except Kuangliu simultaneously attacked the nearby Isolation Barrier!

Just after Kuangliu had taken his seat, he had already relayed a message to the military representatives of the various nations using military hand signals.

There were certainly no fools among them. Being chosen to represent their countries and enter this outpost treasure land, a place where large-scale battles could erupt at any moment, meant that few among them were cowards who clung to life.

Since a fight was inevitable, no one present would surrender without a struggle. Instead of waiting for the Ancient Demon spawn to initiate the attack, it was better to take the initiative.

The plan was: Kuangliu would be responsible for holding off the Ancient Demon spawn. The others were not to worry about anyone’s casualties. The remaining professionists, those with strength to spare, should attack the Isolation Barrier. Those without, needed only to protect themselves. As for those who couldn’t even withstand the battle’s aftershocks, they were better off dead!

Seeing the battle saber, crackling with lightning, draw nearer, the Ancient Demon spawn sneered.

”Isn’t it nice to live a little longer?”

「...」

When the alert sounded, Wen Yu, who was in his room at the outpost, naturally heard it immediately.

”Kaldo!”

At Wen Yu’s call, Kaldo quickly appeared before him.

”What’s going on?”

Wen Yu picked up Cyclops while putting on his jacket and headed directly out the door.

Kaldo followed Wen Yu, explaining as they walked.

”A Demon Fiend infiltrated the outpost and destroyed its control center. The treasure land exploration has ended.”

”We lost? Just like that?” Wen Yu asked in disbelief.

Kaldo nodded helplessly.

”That Demon Fiend is very powerful. Despite the military’s tight security around the outpost control center, it was breached instantly.”

”I see.”

Recalling the Ancient Demon spawn’s skill set, Wen Yu nodded in resignation. He had always been extremely wary of this Ancient Demon spawn. Not only for its terrifying strength on the front lines but also for its absolutely formidable assassination capabilities! Imagine someone who could use Instantaneous Movement; how terrifying would their assassination ability be! In Wen Yu’s estimation, this Ancient Demon spawn might have used its abilities to assassinate all the professionists in the outpost. With Instantaneous Movement at its command, he feared no one in the outpost, except himself, could withstand such an attack. However, Wen Yu hadn’t expected the Ancient Demon spawn to infiltrate the outpost directly, destroy the control center, and decide the outcome in one fell swoop! This was also where most people in the outpost had fallen into a common misconception. To the military, the outpost was akin to a training ground. Even if the control center of a Demon City were placed right before the Human Race, the military would merely focus on protecting it! But for the Demon Tribe, things were different! Even with three of the military’s top ten super warriors, plus an entire company of high-level professionists stationed near the outpost control center, they couldn’t withstand the Ancient Demon spawn’s attack—or, more accurately, its assassination or ambush!

「...」

Wen Yu contemplated as he walked outside.

Outside, soldiers from various nations who had just heard the news caused a brief commotion, but it was quickly quelled by military officers of all ranks.

The discipline of the troops from the various nations was quite good.

”Where is that Demon Fiend now?”

Hearing Wen Yu’s question, Kaldo pointed directly at the central castle.

Wen Yu looked back just in time to see Yang Pengguang burst out of a conference room window and land steadily on the ground.

Then, the entire conference room was instantly enveloped by a small barrier!

「...」

”What happened?”

A minute had passed by the time Wen Yu found Yang Pengguang.

”That Ancient Demon used Teleportation to get into the conference room. Kuangliu and I were sitting near the window. Kuangliu pushed me out and told me to organize the forces from the various nations for a retreat. Then that Ancient Demon used some unknown method to activate a barrier. The others didn’t make it out.”

Yang Pengguang’s explanation seemed plausible; at least, Wen Yu couldn’t immediately detect anything amiss.

Wen Yu glanced at Yang Pengguang’s slightly pale face and calm eyes. Something felt strange, but he couldn’t pinpoint what was wrong. He simply nodded and proceeded directly toward the central castle.

Behind Wen Yu, Yang Pengguang gazed at the barrier-enclosed conference room, a flicker of frustration in his eyes.

That brain-dead Demon Fiend! It had no regard for the lives of ’human traitors’ like him and had sold him out directly. He could imagine that if the Ancient Demon spawn failed to kill Kuangliu and the others, the wrath of the entire Human Race would await him, and by extension, Peng Jun!

「...」

Inside the central castle’s conference room, wild flashes of lightning flickered everywhere, and the massive White Tiger phantom occupied more than half the space within the barrier.

Pale purple saber light whistled incessantly, nearly engulfing the entire conference room.

Military representatives from various nations continuously pulled out all sorts of items from their space rings to defend against the spreading lightning flashes. However, within moments, their defenses were shattered by the violent Thunder, and they were instantly incinerated by the electricity, becoming charred corpses.

Kuangliu paid no heed to any of this! He just blindly expanded his attack range, searching for the silver light darting about everywhere.

Andre and Claire relentlessly bombarded the Isolation Barrier to one side. Occasionally, a stray bolt of lightning would flash past, only to be intercepted by the Level 4 professionists behind them.

Amidst the chaos in the conference room, a voice would pipe up from time to time.

”Don’t waste your efforts. How about we make a deal and chat for another ten minutes? I think letting you live for an extra ten minutes is the last shred of mercy I can offer!”

”Oh, that saber strike of yours has some power... too bad it missed!”

Endless trash talk poured from the Ancient Demon spawn’s mouth. Like a cat toying with a mouse, no matter how Kuangliu attacked, the Ancient Demon spawn, relying on its powerful reflexes and the terrifying effect of Instantaneous Movement, caused all of Kuangliu’s attacks to hit empty air. Occasionally, it would even crush some weaker professionists who lacked adequate items.

「A minute later...」

Kuangliu silently sheathed his battle saber and stood still. He looked at the Ancient Demon spawn sitting on the table before him, his eyes so full of murderous intent and helplessness it seemed they might overflow.

”Not fighting anymore?” the Ancient Demon spawn asked Kuangliu with a smile.

Kuangliu shook his head slightly, staring intently at the Ancient Demon spawn before him, his mind racing to find a countermeasure.

Seeing Kuangliu cease his attacks, the Ancient Demon spawn glanced at the remaining professionists behind him, who were still attacking the Isolation Barrier, then crushed another one.

The Isolation Barrier was effective, but its primary feature was isolation; its defensive capabilities weren’t particularly high. Under Andre and Claire’s attacks, the ten-minute duration of an Isolation Barrier had already been significantly reduced.

Fortunately, Yang Pengguang had left the Ancient Demon spawn with a plentiful supply of Isolation Barriers!
