Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 308: Chapter 98 Planting Mushrooms_1

What followed was a massive explosion and a huge mushroom cloud. First, a terrifying blast wave swept in, carrying countless rocks and pieces of flesh, followed by a massive amount of radioactive dust.

The unknown power within the radiation made Wen Yu feel a momentary discomfort, but he quickly recovered.

Professionists’ physical attributes provided some resistance to radiation. Of course, even with their physical capabilities, Third-level and Level 4 professionists couldn’t stay in such an area for long.

However, a stay of ten to fifteen days wouldn’t have any adverse effects. If any issues did arise, a single healing potion would suffice.

For Wen Yu and the others, the most damaging element was the supersonic shockwave.

The massive shockwave kicked up enormous amounts of sand and soil, which pelted the professionists’ bodies like artillery shells.

Of course, this didn’t cause much damage to the professionists present, who were at least Mid-Third Stage. At most, it knocked a large number of them down.

After all, they weren’t at the epicenter of the explosion; their location merely grazed the edge of the nuclear weapon’s destructive range.

Dazed from the sudden explosion, Wen Yu saw the soldiers around him sprawled on the ground as he regained his senses.

”Is everyone alright?”

Wen Yu’s voice was loud, as the deafening explosion had left his ears ringing.

Fortunately, the warriors who remained here were at least Peak Level 3. Given their distance from the nuclear strike’s range, the vibrations and the explosion itself hadn’t caused them significant damage.

Of course, a moment of dizziness and disorientation was inevitable.

A groggy Xiao Xue climbed up from the ground, her once clean and tidy uniform now thoroughly covered in dust. Seeing Wen Yu shouting something, she rubbed her ears.

”What did you say? I can’t hear...”

Wen Yu waved his hand, signaling that what he’d said wasn’t important.

”Huh? What did you say...”

Before Xiao Xue could finish, a gust of sand flew into her mouth, making her cough uncontrollably.

Wen Yu shook his head helplessly.

The nuclear explosion had caused some temporary damage to everyone’s Hearing Ability, but it would recover soon.

Thinking of this, Wen Yu ignored Xiao Xue, who was still spitting out sand, and looked toward the Bipedal Lizard Pyramid in the distance.

Wen Yu wanted to see how much damage the nuclear weapon had inflicted on the Pyramid.

Unfortunately... The Bipedal Lizard Pyramid was completely undamaged!

「In the Outpost Operations Command Center.」

Fang Wenhai had witnessed the entire process of the nuclear bomb striking the Bipedal Lizard Pyramid.

The planned 100,000-ton-equivalent nuclear warhead had struck the Bipedal Lizard Pyramid directly.

Then, the main screen flickered. The entire Outpost Operations Command Center fell silent. Everyone was waiting to see the results of the nuclear bomb!

After a moment, when the screen switched back, Fang Wenhai saw the Bipedal Lizard Pyramid still standing in place, continuing to shift its formations!

The nuclear weapon hadn’t caused significant damage to these Bipedal Lizards.

The only damage inflicted occurred when the immense force generated by the nuclear detonation collided head-on with the Demonic Energy Shield. This collision crushed the Bipedal Lizards near the Devil Qi Matrix into meat paste.

Beyond that, there were no other effects...

Looking at the still-glowing Demon Qi Shield Generator on the large screen, Fang Wenhai felt a bitter taste in his mouth.

”Notify all non-combat personnel in the outpost to evacuate immediately!”

After calmly issuing the order, Fang Wenhai hesitated for a few seconds, then spoke again.

”Have all Third-level and below personnel retreat! Notify the Science Institute to activate the human clone Mechanized Corps! Notify HQ to send the military’s three Special Ops Teams into the treasure land and dispatch reinforcements of weapons and ammunition! Notify Kaldo and Commander Lin to open the treasure land entrance immediately! Notify the 2nd Artillery Unit to launch a 200,000-ton-equivalent nuclear bomb now!”

Hearing Fang Wenhai’s orders, a staff officer behind him immediately objected.

”Sir, we’re too close. A 200,000-ton-equivalent nuclear weapon’s detonation will affect the outpost. Perhaps we should reduce the yield slightly...”

Fang Wenhai immediately shook his head.

”I ordered the evacuation of non-combat personnel precisely so they wouldn’t be caught in the nuclear blast. As for those above Third-level, they can withstand the aftershocks.”

Fang Wenhai paused, then spoke with extreme seriousness.

”And another thing, your job right now isn’t to question my decision, it’s to f*cking carry out the order! NOW!”

The roar of a Level 4 professionist made everyone present fall silent, trembling in fear.

”Move! Move it!”

As Fang Wenhai’s voice boomed, the military personnel on site immediately sprang into action.

Fang Wenhai ignored the flurry of activity behind him. He turned back, his gaze fixed intently on the Pyramid, which was already reassembling itself, his fists clenched tightly.

The situation seems to have escalated beyond the military’s predictions...

「On the front line.」

Wen Yu stared blankly at the Bipedal Lizard Pyramid in the distance, which had already reactivated. Looking back at the dazed soldiers struggling to their feet behind him, a bitter smile touched his lips.

”The nuclear bomb... was ineffective...”

Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Xiao Xue, who was still rubbing sand from her eyes, froze. She asked, her voice trembling,

”That can’t be! Nuclear weapons are humanity’s most powerful hot weapons. If even they’re ineffective, then...”

If nuclear bombs are ineffective, it means warfare will shift from the over-the-horizon strikes humanity excels at to the methods of post-apocalyptic conflict: Professionists... versus Demon Fiends... in direct, brutal combat! Bloody, cruel, with enormous casualties!

”There must be nuclear weapons with even greater yields,” a voice suddenly spoke up from nearby, as a humanoid figure pushed itself out of the sand.

”Humanity’s technological warfare system can’t be obsolete before we even face Level 5 threats, can it?”

The figure that emerged, not bothering to brush off the dust, simply stared at the distant Bipedal Lizard Pyramid, muttering to himself.

This was the military’s super warrior No. 2—Hao Yun.

Hearing Hao Yun’s words, Wen Yu remained silent for a long moment.

Finally, Hao Yun spoke again.

”Boss, what do we do now...?”
