Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 317: Chapter 106 Discovery_1

”Connect to Wen Yu’s communication!”

The communication soldier at Fang Wenhai’s side, who had been issuing battle commands in the Central Castle, immediately tuned into the channel of the communicator in Wen Yu’s hand upon hearing Fang Wenhai’s words.

A rapid CRACKLE of static passed, then intense fighting noises and Wen Yu’s voice came from the other end of the communicator.

”What is it?”

「...」

The all-out attack by the Bipedal Lizards has clearly been planned for a long time. Wen Yu didn’t know how many Bipedal Lizards there were, but just looking at the ones continuously crawling up from the ground, it was clear that the number of Level 4 Bipedal Lizards underground was far beyond what anyone could imagine. He even felt that these creatures had completely hollowed out the ground beneath Demon City.

After casually killing a Level 4 Bipedal Lizard, Wen Yu picked up the vigorously trembling communicator.

”What is it?”

”This is Fang Wenhai. How soon will you arrive at the outpost?”

”It’s estimated to take nearly three more hours. We’re moving too slowly, and there are too many Bipedal Lizards!”

Wen Yu was still firing away while talking to Fang Wenhai. The Palpitation continuously shot bullets. With Wen Yu’s combat physique at 965 points, the Palpitation’s lethality was terrifying. Moreover, as his physique improved, the power of Wen Yu’s Soul Strike also reached a frightening level, further enhanced by Palpitation’s amplification effect! Any Level 4 Bipedal Lizards merely grazed by Palpitation’s bullets couldn’t escape death!

”The outpost needs assistance... We can’t hold on anymore...”

Hearing these words, Wen Yu fell silent. If the outpost were to fall, it would mean I and the warriors outside it would be effectively trapped in the treasure land, as its exit is located within the outpost. To get out, we would have to break through a large number of Level 5 Bipedal Lizards. The difficulty of such an endeavor is, of course, immense.

”The outpost can’t fall. I’ll return there now, but... What about the hundreds of soldiers who retreated from the front line behind me?”

”I’ll tell you Kuangliu’s location. First, rendezvous with Kuangliu. Let Kuangliu escort those people back to the outpost. Then you depart on your own and fall back quickly!”

”Understood.”

After a simple reply, Wen Yu hung up the communicator. He looked at the current location of Kuangliu’s squadron, displayed on his tablet from the outpost, and quickly plotted a route.

After a while, with Wen Yu leading at the front and changing direction, the whole squad advanced quickly towards Kuangliu’s location.

「...」

As more and more Bipedal Lizards climbed into the outpost from the walls on all four sides, Fang Wenhai, standing in the conference room, kept pacing but couldn’t think of a solution.

At the same time, the situation in the outpost was continuously reported to the conference room.

”District 6 East has fallen. The remaining soldiers have retreated to District 5 East. Casualties are inestimable, and many soldiers are trapped in District 6 East.”

”District 13 West has fallen. Operative 10 is missing, presumably dead...”

”District 10 North has managed to hold the line thanks to reinforcements from the Heavy Shield Guards, but casualties are huge.”

Message after message continuously gathered in Fang Wenhai’s hands, only adding to the pressure on him.

”By the looks of it, in less than twenty minutes, all the warriors in the outpost will be killed, the central castle will be breached, and external reinforcements will be unable to enter.”

Hearing the words of his staff officer, Fang Wenhai sighed deeply.

”I don’t really have any other options... Without hot weapons, our forces are hopelessly outmatched.”

Fang Wenhai massaged his temples, quickly gathered his thoughts, and then spoke to the messenger beside him.

”Tell them to hold the line at all costs; we need them to last at least another half-hour. Notify the Death Squad to mobilize.”

The Death Squad was a special combat group established by the military in the outpost, composed of strong individuals who had committed serious blunders and were deployed specifically to deal with the most dangerous situations. Although the Death Squad was initially intended for other purposes, the current situation was too urgent.

Having given the order to deploy the Death Squad, Fang Wenhai continued, ”Notify all units to be ready to detonate the nuclear device.”

After giving this order, Fang Wenhai seemed drained of all energy. He sat heavily in his chair, panting. Detonating the nuclear device... it’s truly the only option left when all others have failed...

When the Bipedal Lizards’ pyramid had burst out from Demon City, the military already had a contingency plan in place. According to the Tactical Command Department’s estimates, even if the remaining outpost forces couldn’t defeat the Bipedal Lizards, they could hold out for at least an hour. It was this estimate that had allowed Lin Haifeng to assemble a large number of professionists and Special Ops Teams inside the outpost treasure land.

However, the military hadn’t anticipated the lethality of these Level 5 Bipedal Lizards and the ineffectiveness of hot weapons against Demon Fiends! The current battle situation had far exceeded the Tactical Command Department’s expectations.

Hearing Fang Wenhai’s order, an expression of conflict briefly flashed across the radio operator’s face. Then, with a firm salute, he relayed the order.

Fang Wenhai stared blankly out the window, the echoing explosions outside reminding him of Wen Yu’s and Kuangliu’s battles. If only one of you were here... surely things wouldn’t be this bad...

Before Fang Wenhai had finished his somber reflection, the radio operator returned and reported a crucial piece of intelligence.

”Sir, the Demon Fiend leading the Bipedal Lizards has breached the city wall.”

Hearing this news, Fang Wenhai’s eyes suddenly lit up.

...

”Which direction?”

”The eastern wall!”

Knowing the demon spawn’s location, Fang Wenhai’s mind raced. Wasting no time, he spoke to the operator, ”What about the missiles?”

”The missile troops have already evacuated the outpost!”

Fang Wenhai nodded knowingly. These technical units are difficult to cultivate in the post-apocalypse, so their safety must be prioritized. It’s just a pity we can’t blast that Bipedal Lizard controller to bits with missiles right now!

What Fang Wenhai didn’t know was that the threat of the military’s long-range strikes had actually forced the demon spawn to enter the outpost. It sought to avoid becoming an open target for missiles or even nuclear weapons while outside. After all, the demon spawn had calculated, The humans wouldn’t bomb their own fortress, would they...?

”Notify the Death Squad to change its battle target and immediately break through the Bipedal Lizards on the east side! Alert the Shadow Assassin squadron to take out the Bipedal Lizard controller if conditions permit! Notify Operative 8 to act as appropriate! Distribute the miniature nuclear bombs to them!”

As he swiftly issued instructions and watched the radio operator hastily exit the conference room, a strong glimmer of hope ignited in Fang Wenhai’s eyes. If we can take down the Demon Fiend controlling the Bipedal Lizards... maybe their swarm will disperse completely...

”It’s unlikely they’ll disperse completely,” the Tactical Commander beside him said calmly. ”But it should cause some chaos.”

Hearing that, Fang Wenhai nodded. But what if...?
