Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 314: Chapter 103: Legion War! _1

As it turned out, there was an excellent reason for the military to establish a separate Special Ops Team specifically for Magic Energy Mages!

One by one, fireballs slowly materialized in the hands of these Magic Energy Mages. Then, following Shen Yi’s command, over a thousand gigantic fireballs were hurled directly towards the Bipedal Lizard horde, which had already drawn alarmingly close to the city outskirts!

Skill Number Two: Fireball Technique (F-Class, Active Ability). This skill allows the user to condense a fireball—a concept familiar to anyone who has played online games. The skill level, however, is only F-Class. Unlike Magic Energy Field (E-Class), which is a built-in skill upon changing one’s profession to Magic Energy Mage, Fireball Technique is a low-level skill provided by the Exchange Stone Pillar. It’s so basic that it would be ignored even if found discarded on the street! But this implies one thing: it’s easy to acquire! Indeed, a skill like Fireball Technique, which can be equipped on a large scale, is absolutely indispensable for Magic Energy Mages!

As the thousand-plus fireballs were unleashed, Shen Yi and his team members simultaneously activated their third skill! It was a skill unique to Magic Energy Mages!

Magic Energy Fusion (C-Class, Active Ability): This allows Magic Energy Mages’ skills to be fused, either different skills of the same magic type from a single mage, or the same skill from different mages!

From the Magic Energy Field and Magic Energy Fusion abilities, it’s clear that the Magic Energy Mage profession was created specifically for legion warfare! Individually, a Magic Energy Mage is quite weak. For a single Magic Energy Mage, Magic Energy Field is an entirely useless skill! While Magic Energy Fusion isn’t overwhelmingly strong on its own, the amplifying effect when large numbers of Mages gather is terrifyingly powerful! This was the fundamental reason the military had Shen Yi, a former super warrior and special professionist, switch his profession!

Thousands of fireballs swirled in the air, their original flight trajectories suddenly changing as the Magic Energy Fusion skill was activated! Countless fireballs rapidly merged, converging on Shen Yi’s fireball as their central point. In an instant, over a thousand fireballs transformed into a super fireball, approximately 20 meters in diameter, radiating a blinding white light and terrifying heat! Then, this super fireball brutally smashed into the oncoming Bipedal Lizard horde in the distance!

Shen Yi was a Level 4 professionist, one who had just changed his profession. In the Magic Energy Mage Special Ops Team, there were only a few dozen Level 4 professionists; the rest were Third-level. Their levels weren’t high; at least when facing Level 5 Bipedal Lizards, this number of professionists definitely seemed outclassed. But what would be the power of a super fireball formed from the fusion of over a thousand fireballs launched by these professionists?

The answer provided by the Magic Energy Mage Special Ops Team was terrifying!

The super fireball directly struck the head of the foremost Bipedal Lizard. The terrifying heat instantly melted its brain. The Bipedal Lizard, hit squarely by the skill, didn’t even have a chance to shriek before it died on the spot. Then, the super fireball slammed into the ground!

BOOM!!!

A violent explosion, accompanied by a surging heatwave, swept over everything. A giant ring of fire instantly erupted from the point where the super fireball struck the ground. The flames rolled and surged towards the Bipedal Lizards in the distance. The Level 5 Bipedal Lizards first to come into contact with the fire wave were instantly incinerated. Those further back were sent flying by the massive shockwave, left spasming on the ground. When the devastation subsided, all that remained was a large crater nearly a hundred meters in diameter. The fiery shockwave had extended almost a kilometer before finally ceasing!

Then, a second super fireball quickly followed!

Not only did the Magic Domain offset the skill consumption for these Magic Energy Mages, but more terrifyingly, it also hastened the skill’s cooldown time. Fireball Technique itself has a short cooldown, manifesting as a brief period of ”physical exhaustion” after casting. However, under the influence of the Magic Domain, this period of exhaustion was completely negated!

Thus, to the astonishment of the onlooking professionists, super fireballs were launched at an alarming rate of three to five per second. And though the super fireballs didn’t have an exceptionally large area of effect, their destructive power was terrifying! Any Bipedal Lizard caught within the blast radius could not escape death! The solid defensive line established by the Magic Energy Mage contingent became an unavoidable nightmare for the Bipedal Lizard horde assaulting the forward outpost!

Seeing the super fireball blockade line created by the Magic Energy Mage Special Ops Team, Fang Wenhai clicked his tongue in wonder. ”If we had three more teams like you guys, what would there be to fear in defending the outpost?”

Hearing Fang Wenhai’s words, before Shen Yi could respond, Cao Ling, who was nearby, interjected with a sigh, ”This profession might look incredibly impressive now, but it comes at a considerable cost.”

Even before Cao Ling could elaborate, Shen Yi, who was in the process of launching fireballs, began to explain, ”Changing profession to Magic Energy Mage essentially means giving up the path to further advancement... Moreover, profession-change scrolls are produced in very limited quantities. Since discovering the treasure land, we’ve only managed to accumulate this small number of them!”

Upon hearing Shen Yi’s words, Fang Wenhai immediately understood.

Despite excelling in group combat, a Magic Energy Mage isn’t very strong individually! For a solo fighter, the Magic Energy Field and Magic Energy Fusion skills offer no individual benefit. This means if a Third-level Magic Energy Mage wants to advance, they would need to use Fireball Technique to fight a mutant beast of similar physical capabilities but possessing four skills. The casualty rate... would be absolutely terrifying! Under such circumstances, the military leadership would surely not allow Magic Energy Mages to advance through combat! They could only convert high-level professionists, who had already reached a certain level, using profession-change scrolls! And when lower-level Magic Energy Mages are no longer adequate for the military’s needs against high-level demon fiends, they would face elimination... Phased out by the world due to their stagnant levels, and then phased out again by the Magic Energy Mage Special Ops Team... These current Third-level or Level 4 high-level professionists might still be at the same level in a few years, eventually being arranged for retirement by the military, or dying in battle.

Fang Wenhai was silent for a long moment before saying in a low voice, ”Thank you for your hard work.”

Hearing this, Shen Yi, still launching fireballs, burst into laughter. ”Brothers, let them hear our slogan!”

Behind him, voices rang out in unison:

”Invisible front line! Unsung heroes! Selfless dedication! Supreme glory!”

These were true soldiers, true warriors!
