Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 319: Chapter 108 Shadow Assassin_1

Witnessing this scene, the demon spawn narrowed its eyes.

Clearly, the demon spawn was also under considerable pressure faced with the suicide attacks of these assailants.

After a moment of reflection, the demon spawn abandoned the idea of releasing a Fog of War.

Although the Fog of War was useful, it consumed a significant amount of stamina. After the demon spawn had expended a great deal of stamina on various other buff skills, it had little left. This remaining stamina was needed for its own life-saving skills.

This was the demon spawn’s trump card for daring to charge into the outpost without the protection of the Devil Qi Matrix!

”Retreat!”

The demon spawn’s Spiritual Fluctuation was transmitted to the Bipedal Lizard mount beneath it. Unfortunately, amidst the swarming Bipedal Lizards, the demon spawn’s large mount moved very slowly.

But this scene galvanized the distant Death Squad.

Without needing the Death Squad leader to say anything more, two figures, one from the left and one from the right, dashed forward. Amidst two thunderous explosions, the Bipedal Lizards blocking their path were blasted away, creating a huge gap.

”Speed up!”

The Death Squad leader’s voice was steady and determined. The military-issued protective device he held had already lost more than half of its energy.

Hearing the leader’s command, the Death Squad increased their speed once more, and then, another two figures swiftly charged forward.

...

”Fucking move faster, you idiot!”

Vulgar words spewed from the demon spawn’s mouth. The Bipedal Lizard beneath it swung its massive tail, sending nearby lizards flying. Its thick legs then sprinted, attempting to create distance from the ever-approaching Death Squad.

However, Bipedal Lizards continued to stream in from the front, unavoidably slowing the demon spawn.

”These idiots!!!”

Even though the demon spawn knew it had enough time and that the chance of the Death Squad killing it was slim, it couldn’t help but feel irritated.

A furious roar echoed from the demon spawn’s mouth, and then, it suddenly issued a command.

As the demon spawn’s Spiritual Fluctuation spread, the Bipedal Lizards rushing in from outside dispersed, clearing the path before it.

Seeing this, the demon spawn finally breathed a sigh of relief, then looked back at the explosions growing ever closer, and cursed angrily, ”Hurry up! Hurry up!”

Clearly, this demon spawn was rather cowardly and cherished its life dearly. Without the protection of the Devil Qi Matrix, the suicide attack of a single Death Squad could make it scramble like a rabbit.

The mount, having received the demon spawn’s command, surged forward at Peak Level 5 speed. Without the interference from the surrounding Bipedal Lizards, the mount moved with incredible swiftness—at least far faster than the hindered Death Squad.

Only when the demon spawn reached the base of the city wall did its mount finally slow down.

The demon spawn adjusted its position and watched the distant Death Squad’s final struggles, a malicious smirk spreading across its face.

”I’m not that easy to kill!”

...

As if sensing the distant demon spawn’s mockery, the lone remaining Death Squad leader, clutching a protective device with a dimming glow, calmly withdrew two miniature nuclear bombs from his space ring. A strange smile touched his lips as he looked in the demon spawn’s direction.

”Mission complete... Now, it’s time for you Demon Bastards to witness me!”

BOOM!

A massive explosion shook the sky. An airwave hurled away the Bipedal Lizards that had just encircled the white light barrier. The deafening sound and incoming dust caused the demon spawn to instinctively narrow its eyes. It then turned its head to avoid the dust and blinding light.

Just then...

A black shadow suddenly darted out from the shadows at the base of the wall. The figure grew clearer, a short sword in its hand glinting with a cold light.

All of this happened in the blink of an eye, and from behind the demon spawn and its mount!

A silent assassination!

...

Profession: Shadow Assassin

Skill One: Shadow Concealment (B-Class, Active Ability): Conceals the user in shadows, masking their physical form, sound, scent, and any other trace that could reveal their position. Allows slow movement through connected shadows. However, upon attacking, the user is immediately revealed and cannot re-enter Shadow Concealment for 10 minutes.

These were the military’s Shadow Assassin squadron—vipers concealed in the shadows, specializing in assassination!

And it was obvious that when a member of the Shadow Assassin squadron revealed themselves, the ten-minute cooldown for Shadow Concealment was more than enough to ensure that assassin’s death.

They were, in essence, disposable.

From the moment the Demon Fiends breached the city wall, Fang Wenhai had already positioned the Shadow Assassin squadron in the shadows at the foot of the wall, their sole purpose to assassinate the demon spawn.

Of course, at that time, Fang Wenhai had been unsure whether the demon spawn would enter the outpost, but this hadn’t prevented him from deploying the Shadow Assassin squadron.

Even if the demon spawn hadn’t come, with their Shadow Concealment ability, the Shadow Assassin squadron could have easily slipped back through the enemy encirclement.

And just as the demon spawn revealed itself, the Shadow Assassin squadron, which had already stealthily moved through the city wall’s shadows to the demon spawn’s position, launched a violent assault precisely when the demon spawn believed itself to be safe.

...

The glint of cold steel at its neck made the demon spawn gasp.

The demon spawn was Level 5. As a demon spawn, its racial advantages should have been quite potent. With comparable physical conditioning, a demon spawn’s physical prowess should have far surpassed that of an Ancient Demon, let alone a Human.

However, this species, developed by the Demon Tribe specifically to control Balu Monsters, was pathetically weak in body!

Even considering its status as a demon spawn, its racial advantages merely brought its physical constitution to a level comparable with that of a Human.

This meant the demon spawn’s physical constitution was only comparable to that of a Level 5 professionist with a similar physique!

Furthermore, its skill set was ill-suited for direct combat. Now, facing the Shadow Assassin squadron’s attack, the demon spawn found itself utterly vulnerable.

”Save me!”

A wail filled with intense terror erupted from the demon spawn’s mouth. Simultaneously, a Spiritual Fluctuation rapidly spread out, blanketing the entire area around the outpost.

All Bipedal Lizards near the outpost immediately turned and advanced towards the demon spawn, heedless of the attacks from the military’s professionists they would inevitably face.

Clearly, under the threat of death, the demon spawn’s judgment faltered. It completely disregarded its original strategic objective: to destroy the outpost.

Unfortunately for the demon spawn, the Death Squad’s earlier actions now proved critical.

Apart from its mount, there wasn’t a single Bipedal Lizard near the demon spawn.
