Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 293: Chapter 83 Strengthen (Extra update for Mahuateng’s climbing wall reward!)_1

Wen Yu nodded with understanding and directed Star to rush towards the outpost immediately. He had no intention of colliding head-on with the Bipedal Lizards chasing them!

Kuangliu, however, contemplated for a moment before speaking. ”The military will launch long-range attacks as well. I think we can go back and observe. After the missile strike, we can attack. With the power of your soul pet, you can at least burn those Demon Fiends to ashes!”

Upon hearing Kuangliu’s words, Wen Yu simply shook his head. What a joke! The Blood Beast’s tragic state is still fresh in my mind! If these Demon Fiends manage to corner us, well, I don’t even need to imagine the outcome! In my opinion, the risks and rewards of this situation are completely disproportionate!

Kuangliu probably understood this too, as he didn’t try to guilt-trip Wen Yu with nauseating phrases like ”the great cause of the nation” or ”the war situation.” This was one of the reasons Wen Yu found Kuangliu agreeable. Kuangliu held no unrealistic fantasies and always prioritized clear exchanges of interest, especially in his dealings with Wen Yu. This suited Wen Yu perfectly.

...

Star was swift, but the distance from Demon City to the outpost was not short. After witnessing two missile launch spectacles en route, Wen Yu finally managed to make his way back to Central City.

On Star’s back, Kuangliu had already explained to Wen Yu the results of the two missile attacks.

For the second missile attack, the military had been much smarter. Besides increasing the warhead payload, they also employed a large amount of napalm, and the types of missiles had changed. The primary change was the deployment of numerous short-range Ground Penetrating Missiles, specifically to counter the Bipedal Lizards’ burrowing tactics.

The Bipedal Lizards—this was the name the military had given the Balu Monster. It was quite fitting, and Wen Yu himself was willing to call these unknown Demon Fiends by this name.

The second missile attack finally showed some results. Currently, both professionists and Demon Fiends below Level 5 were somewhat helpless against hot weapons, let alone the Bipedal Lizards, which were mostly Low-grade demonic creatures. The barrage of missiles once again struck their targets with precision. One had to admit, Cathay’s 2nd Artillery Unit was truly world-leading when it came to missile deployment.

Wen Yu could see the smoke plumes from countless missiles even from a distance. The very ground of the treasure land trembled twice under the might of these powerful hot weapons. The Bipedal Lizards bearing the brunt of this missile strike were not faring well. The Ground Penetrating Missiles instantly killed countless subterranean Demon Monsters through shockwaves. Then, the napalm shells unleashed their devastating power, incinerating the Demon Monsters’ corpses with intense heat, but the overall effect wasn’t particularly significant. This was because, not long after the missiles impacted, a large number of Bipedal Lizards crawled out again, braving the widespread flames to feast on the corpses of their kin.

In total, this wave of attacks only managed to eliminate tens of thousands of Bipedal Lizards.

And so, the military’s third wave of attacks commenced. This time, it was a saturation strike with ground-to-ground missiles. According to Kuangliu, the number of missiles launched in this wave constituted the military’s entire remaining stockpile at the outpost. An unending rain of missiles descended, seemingly intent on blasting the very soil of the bombarded area into dust.

Dozens of minutes of continuous missile bombardment completely destroyed the Bipedal Lizards that weren’t hidden too deeply. Simultaneously, this forced those lurking deep underground to scramble to the surface and retreat towards Demon City, all while enduring the ongoing strikes.

The three continuous waves of missile bombardment had successfully repelled the attacking Bipedal Lizards. Alas...

”This is such a damned waste... we might as well have just evacuated the treasure land...” That was Wen Yu’s exact comment.

Kuangliu nodded in agreement. Unfortunately, missiles, as weapons of mass destruction, awarded no points for killing Demon Fiends. This meant the three rounds of missile strikes, aside from repelling the Demon Fiends, yielded no tangible benefits.

”By the way, didn’t you consider just dropping a couple of nuclear weapons to wipe Demon City off the map and be done with it?” Wen Yu’s tone was half-joking, half-serious.

Kuangliu simply shook his head without saying anything further. Perhaps, in the military’s eyes, the outpost’s value was still immense, even with the emergence of the Bipedal Lizards—a species so powerful they seemed to defy all logic.

Seeing Kuangliu’s silent response, Wen Yu just shrugged. For me, the continued existence of this treasure land is purely advantageous.

...

As soon as they arrived at the outpost, Kuangliu jumped off Star’s back and headed directly towards the central castle.

Wen Yu, without a word, first surveyed the outpost’s environment and then walked towards the Exchange Stone Pillar near the central castle. The outpost had changed significantly. It was now teeming with fully armed soldiers and military vehicles, and new recruits could occasionally be seen drilling and running exercises. It appeared the military was planning to use this place as a training ground.

Of course, this aligned with Wen Yu’s interests. However, after witnessing the Bipedal Lizards’ terrifying reproductive capabilities, Wen Yu harbored serious doubts about how long this treasure land could possibly last.

Let’s just hope it holds out for as long as possible! Wen Yu sighed softly, ignoring the astonished stares of the surrounding soldiers fixed on Star. Star flew Wen Yu directly to the vicinity of the Exchange Stone Pillar.

Wen Yu dismounted from Star’s back. Star slowly shrank its body and then settled atop Wen Yu’s head. He placed his hand on the Exchange Stone Pillar and murmured, ”Query points.”

”Ding, remaining points: 10,839,782.”

Over ten million points! This was a huge sum, the fruit of his labor over the past few days.

He quickly assessed his current physique. After absorbing the magic crystals from eight Level 4 Demon Fiends, Wen Yu’s physique score had risen to 204 points. Of course, Cyclops and Star had sneakily swallowed many Level 4 magic crystals. Wen Yu didn’t mind; Level 4 magic crystals consumed by Cyclops and Star would also enhance their strength.

He roughly estimated the points needed to elevate his physique to 500 points. A single attribute-free Level 4 magic crystal cost 20,000 points. To reach the Peak Level 4 physique of 500 points, he would need 592 such magic crystals.

That meant... 11.84 million points...

Seeing this figure, Wen Yu clenched his teeth. Before the Demon Realm’s Gate opened, encountering such large numbers of Demon Fiends was impossible. Yet, even after going all out in this environment, he still hadn’t gathered enough to fully max out his own physique. This realization was undeniably a blow to him.

Despite my formidable combat strength, I’m essentially just supporting several magic crystal gluttons! You win some, you lose some; that’s just how it is! So, you all better hold out for as long as you can!
