Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 291: Chapter 81: Kids, it’s dinner time! (For the Alliance Hierarch, an additional 50,000 award for waiting patiently 5/5)_1

Looking at the bizarrely shaped demon spawn beside him and the overwhelming horde of Balu Monsters below, the Soot Skin Demon Fiend’s heart tightened. No creature understood the terror of these Balu Monsters better than the Demon Tribe itself. Watching the Balu Monsters still emerging endlessly from behind, the Soot Skin Demon Fiend said, trembling, ”Master... these troops... should be enough...”

The demon spawn glanced strangely at the Soot Skin Demon Fiend and let out a series of piercing cackles. ”How could this possibly be enough? I have at least a hundred times more of these little darlings, and they’re starving!”

Accompanied by the piercing cackles and the constant gurgling sounds of the surrounding Balu Monsters, the entire Demon City was shrouded in an eerie atmosphere.

「Until...」

A small squad of Soot Skin Demon Fiends surged out from the Demon Realm’s Gate. Before these cannon fodder had a chance to observe what this world even looked like, countless slimy tongues instantly wrapped around them! Then, with a SWOOSH, this group of Soot Skin Demon Fiends disappeared without a trace in the blink of an eye!

Then, an even more terrifying scene unfolded. A Level 2 Balu Monster that had just devoured a Soot Skin Demon Fiend suddenly began to swell. It was as if a large tumor was growing, a huge fleshy mass bulging from its side. Then, amidst the Balu Monster’s cries, the fleshy mass burst open! From the body of this Level 2 Balu Monster, a smaller, Level 1 Balu Monster emerged!

This was the Balu Monsters’ method of reproduction! With just one Balu Monster and sufficient food, it could multiply into a terrifying army in a remarkably short time! The Soot Skin Demon Fiend watched the Balu Monsters’ reproductive method and couldn’t help but swallow hard. This terrifying race, despite lacking any true powerhouses or formidable skills, could become a dominant force within the Demon Tribe solely due to its grotesque reproductive method and speed!

Beside him, the demon spawn burst into wild laughter. ”Little darling... now there’s one more!”

「...」

Wen Yu and Kuangliu, who were outside the Demon City, naturally witnessed everything unfolding within. On the drone feed, they watched as a Blood Beast, one of Star’s kind, was ensnared by countless slimy tongues. It was being torn and bitten relentlessly, like a large catfish on a cutting board. Wen Yu felt goosebumps erupt all over his skin. Even Star, beside him, gulped.

Wen Yu’s immediate thought was, We can’t fucking fight this! Retreat! The reasoning was simple: if the Blood Beast could be immobilized, Star definitely couldn’t escape either. Although Wen Yu could retrieve Star using the power of the Soul Realm, the unpredictability was too great. Besides, Wen Yu wouldn’t be able to focus on anything else. Without Star, Wen Yu, Cyclops, Faceless, and Kuangliu combined would stand no chance of making a significant impact.

Wen Yu quickly recalled Cyclops and Faceless, leaped onto Star’s back, and pulled Kuangliu up with him. Then, Star flapped its wings and soared high into the sky. Star also sensed that staying to fight these giant lizard-like creatures to the death was not a wise decision.

「...」

The demon spawn in the Demon City naturally saw Star’s distant movements. After a moment of contemplation, the demon spawn spoke slowly, ”Is that the powerful expert from this world you mentioned?”

The Soot Skin Demon Fiend nodded.

”Let’s go. We’ll leave the city. I smell the aroma of food outside...”

Hearing this, the Soot Skin Demon Fiend shivered. The so-called food, he thought, is undoubtedly the Demon Fiends slaughtered outside the city.

At the demon spawn’s command, the Balu Monster army mobilized instantly! Observing the orderly advance of the Balu Monsters, it was hard to believe they were merely simple-minded, brainless creatures. The demon spawn, riding a massive Balu Monster, led the way out of the city. Gazing at the somewhat desiccated Demon Beast Corpses littering the ground, the corner of its mouth curled up slightly. ”Without the juices... the flavor is far inferior!”

Then, as if bored, it casually waved an arm. Countless Balu Monsters, sensing the demon spawn’s command, instantly sprang into action. Innumerable slimy tongues lashed out, coiling around the desiccated Demon Beast Corpses on the ground and dragging them into waiting maws to be devoured. Feasting was followed by horrifying reproduction. In a short time, the corpses on the ground were completely consumed. Meanwhile, thousands more Balu Monsters had appeared on the scene.

The demon spawn closed its eyes, sensing the number of Demon Monsters surrounding it. After a moment, it nodded in approval. ”Now, let’s head to the front and take a look. You mentioned some of the Demon Tribe have already advanced towards the city on the other side?”

”Yes, Master!” the Soot Skin Demon Fiend replied respectfully.

The demon spawn nodded. ”Then, let’s not let them go to waste! Children!” A massive shockwave of sound erupted from the demon spawn’s mouth, proving this creature was not as weak as one might imagine. Gazing at the innumerable Balu Monsters all looking towards it, the demon spawn nodded in satisfaction. ”It’s feeding time!”

Accompanied by synchronized GURGLES, the Demon Monster army marched directly towards the outpost. Moreover, behind them, Balu Monsters continued to pour ceaselessly from the black hole. The self-detonation of the giant serpent demon spawn had unleashed a horrifying swarm upon the entire outpost battlefield. A swarm of Apex Predators that even the term ’locusts’ failed to adequately describe.

Star’s speed was considerable, at least much faster than the Balu Monsters trailing behind. After all, among the vast numbers of Balu Monsters, many were low-level; these were the ones dragging down the marching speed of the entire Balu Monster army. Of course, the same could be said for the Devil Army led by the Ancient Demon, which had set out earlier towards the outpost.

As soon as Star took flight, Kuangliu was already on the communicator, requesting intelligence from the outpost. The events in the Demon City, observable by Wen Yu and Kuangliu via drone, were also visible to the commander at the outpost. Naturally, specific countermeasures had not yet been devised. Those officials, for the most part, were still mired in bureaucratic red tape and were remarkably inefficient.

This mattered little to Wen Yu. However, a piece of information from the military department was highly valuable to him. It was that the advancing group of Demon Fiends had not yet reached the vicinity of the outpost.

Commanding Star, he urged it to follow their trail and quickly pursue the Demon Group ahead. Wen Yu was resolute. He was determined to ”devour” these Demon Fiends, no matter the cost. With the points gained, his strength would significantly increase by the time he returned to the outpost.
