Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 253: Chapter 46 Hello Fly_1

When Wen Yu came downstairs, Kuangliu was chatting with Xiao Xue about something. Judging by their slightly intimate behavior, their relationship was clearly not merely a superior-subordinate one! But what did that have to do with Wen Yu? He wasn’t a gossipmonger!

After briefly explaining the situation to Kuangliu, Wen Yu smoothly got his contact information. This contact method was similar to pre-apocalyptic phone numbers. Of course, its performance was definitely not as powerful as a smartphone. However, it could still be used for calls and text messages. According to Kuangliu, this device could only communicate within the Yanjing Assembly Site because that was the limit of its signal range. Of course, explaining things like signal ranges to Wen Yu was like talking to a brick wall!

Wen Yu asked Kuangliu for another communication device and handed it directly to the woman who had ”escorted” him out. ”Give this to Sun Xuewei and tell her to remember what I said.”

Despite her suspicions about the two men’s identities, the woman still nodded in agreement. They only wanted to deliver an item and didn’t do anything else.

After turning around to glance at Sun Xuewei, who was peeping from an upstairs window, Wen Yu waved and headed toward the military vehicle.

「...」

Sitting in the passenger seat, Wen Yu vigorously rubbed his temples and let out a heavy sigh.

”What’s wrong?”

Wen Yu shook his head.

”To be honest, you could have just forcefully brought her out.”

Wen Yu looked at Kuangliu in surprise, finding it hard to believe that he could suggest such a stupid idea.

Kuangliu shrugged. ”Violence might not be the best solution, but it’s definitely the fastest and the least complicated!”

”You’re absolutely fucking right,” Wen Yu instantly retorted in exasperation.

But was it possible? If it was a mission, Wen Yu would just go for it without a second thought. However, it wasn’t a mission—it was a promise! A promise Wen Yu made to his first recognized teammate!

”Where to next?” Deciding not to dwell on the matter, Wen Yu turned his head and asked directly.

”Actually, I don’t know...”

Hearing Kuangliu’s response, Wen Yu was at a loss. This guy, who seemed so aloof in the video call, was completely different in person—not at all like the lofty demeanor he projected on screen!

”Any orders from the military? I’ve already reported your arrival to Commander Lin. He just said to handle it as I see fit, so I’ll just do that!”

Seeing Kuangliu’s ”I’ll handle it as I see fit” expression, Wen Yu resignedly sank back into his seat, watching the somewhat busy streetscape.

Wen Yu had completed his main purpose for coming to Yanjing. As for the rest, his focus was now on improving his strength. With that in mind, Wen Yu spoke up. ”By the way, do you have any intelligence on large-scale mutant beasts or zombies within Cathay?”

「...」

”That question... is classified information,” Kuangliu said mysteriously to Wen Yu in a luxuriously decorated restaurant.

Wen Yu figured he shouldn’t take this guy seriously. Ignoring Cyclops’s resistance, he played with the creature on his lap.

After meeting Sun Xuewei, Kuangliu had driven toward the inner city. At Xiao Xue’s suggestion, Kuangliu decided to first treat Wen Yu to a nice meal and ensure he had a good night’s rest. They would then meet Commander Lin the next day.

”Hey, hey, give me some reaction, will you?” Kuangliu said to Wen Yu, a wounded expression on his face. ”Of course, if you were to join the military, none of this would be a problem for you!”

Wen Yu discovered another trait of Kuangliu: his expressions could change rapidly. One moment he looked mysterious, and the next he was completely serious.

Wen Yu shook his head. ”We’ll see. It’s not out of the question, but I’m personally more inclined toward a cooperative relationship.”

Wen Yu would choose whichever option was more beneficial to him; that was his philosophy.

Hearing Wen Yu’s response, Kuangliu first nodded, then grabbed a large mouthful of food. ”Why aren’t you eating? The chefs in this restaurant used to cook for state banquets; the food is really good!” Kuangliu mumbled to Wen Yu, his mouth full.

Wen Yu just smiled and shook his head.

Cyclops, however, upon seeing the food, immediately jumped onto the dining table. It began to vent its frustration from being toyed with by Wen Yu on a plate of mutant beast meat!

Xiao Xue chuckled from the side. ”He must be traumatized...”

Wen Yu simply shrugged, and Kuangliu didn’t seem too curious about these matters either.

”By the way, who owns this place?”

Kuangliu swallowed the food in his mouth and replied, ”This is a military asset, used by the military to entertain certain guests.”

Only then did Wen Yu nod in understanding. In his eyes, opening a restaurant in the post-apocalyptic world, even within an assembly site, was something only those with too much money and nowhere to spend it would do. One could tell just by looking at the restaurant’s decor and the number of customers. The entire restaurant had only Wen Yu and Kuangliu’s table occupied. Of course, if it was military property, that would make sense.

「...」

In less than ten minutes, Kuangliu, Xiao Xue, and Cyclops had devoured all the exquisitely prepared food on the table. The appetite of a professionist was indeed considerable.

”Let’s go.” Kuangliu paid the bill first and led the way out.

Wen Yu observed how Kuangliu paid. He used newly minted banknotes from the post-apocalyptic world. Kuangliu had mentioned these in the car earlier; they were issued by the military as an equivalent exchange for magic crystals. Currently, Wen Yu’s space ring contained a stack of these notes that Kuangliu had given him. Of course, these things were useless in Wen Yu’s eyes. Moreover, according to Kuangliu, most transactions still favored the use of magic crystals.

「...」

Before the three of them could step out of the restaurant, a voice rang out from the entrance. ”Well, well, if it isn’t Brother Lin, our Lord God of War!” The tone carried a hint of mockery.

Hearing this voice, Kuangliu, who was in the lead, stopped. He sized up the two men who had just walked in. One of them wore a military uniform; the insignia on his shoulder indicated he was a colonel. The other man was dressed more simply in casual clothes. He appeared to be under thirty and was carefully observing Kuangliu.

Kuangliu looked at the uniformed man and greeted him with a slight smile. ”So, it’s you, Fang Yuan. Seeing an officer so unruly, should I deduct your military pay, or should I just kill you directly?”

Kuangliu’s tone was light, but his words carried murderous intent.

At Kuangliu’s words, Fang Yuan’s face stiffened before quickly turning serious. He immediately saluted. ”Greetings, Lord God of War!”

His posture was impeccable, but his attitude was questionable.

Wen Yu, standing behind Kuangliu and watching everything unfold, suddenly understood the situation. Apparently, this guy named Fang Yuan only possessed the strength of Peak Level 1. For someone with this level of strength to hold the rank of colonel, there was only one possibility! He had connections.

Xiao Xue’s words perfectly explained Wen Yu’s doubts. ”This is Fang Yuan, someone who got in through connections within an Aristocratic Family.” The disdain in her voice was palpable. More importantly, Xiao Xue didn’t lower her voice at all.

Only when Fang Yuan heard Xiao Xue’s voice did he look further into the restaurant. Then, a sycophantic grin spread across his face. ”Xiao Xue, you’re back! It really has been a long time.”

Xiao Xue offered a perfectly standard, professional smile and replied coolly, ”Hello, fly.”
