Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 251: Chapter 44 Sun Xuewei (Waiting 500 years for a good book worth thousands rewards!)

Upon hearing Kuangliu’s final words, Wen Yu fell completely silent.

”So, the higher-ups in your military no longer consider themselves pure humans, huh?”

Kuangliu nodded.

”The difference in power is the fundamental reason for the existence of classes. When the gap becomes too large, many problems arise.”

”In reality, the military’s War God program was not originally called the War God program!”

”At first, it was called the Deity Creation program, designed to create the most powerful ultimate life form with the full strength of the military—a deity walking among mankind!”

”But... it didn’t work out!”

Wen Yu raised an eyebrow.

”Why did it fail?”

”The cost was too high, and there were internal power disputes, as well as other information.”

After hesitating for a moment, Kuangliu decided to speak.

”This kind of cultivation would cause a series of problems, the key one being the lack of resources! Also, the advancement trial from Level 4 to Level 5!”

”The advancement trial from Level 4 to Level 5?”

At this question, Wen Yu raised an eyebrow again.

Kuangliu nodded.

”This information was obtained from a Treasure Land Protector. The trial for advancement from Level 4 to Level 5 will be different from previous ones. It’s an elimination, and also a baptism!”

”That’s a direct quote.”

Wen Yu nodded. Perhaps there was more to it, but this information was definitely classified. Even if the military was very keen to win him over, they wouldn’t disclose this kind of information to him!

”I can only say one thing,” Kuangliu continued, ”after reaching Level 4, it’s best to use the magic crystals exchanged for your own points for advancement. Otherwise, the trial difficulty will increase significantly!”

Wen Yu said lightly, ”Thank you.”

”No need to thank me. Besides, with your strength, I expect we’ll fight side by side many times in the future!”

...

After their brief conversation, neither Kuangliu nor Wen Yu spoke further.

Kuangliu drove in silence, while Wen Yu sat quietly beside him, contemplating the military’s attitude—their behavior towards ordinary people, and their treatment of Wen Yu himself.

One thing Wen Yu could be sure of: this military, oozing pragmatism and utilitarianism, was definitely good news for him. His own strength was substantial enough that, in the eyes of the military, he possessed significant value. Naturally, they would be willing to invest resources in him. This would be a win-win situation. Wen Yu believed that only such an attitude from the military could ensure the continuation of the Cathay people amidst the terrifying demon plague! In times of chaos, drastic measures are needed!

...

”We’re here.”

Just as Wen Yu was meditating, Kuangliu broke the silence.

The military vehicle then slowly stopped in front of a dilapidated three-story building.

Wen Yu first surveyed the surroundings. The area was desolate, with few buildings. Except for this one, none of the others appeared to be inhabited by survivors. From this location, he could even see the inner wall of the Yanjing Assembly Site in the distance. Both these points told him one thing: Sun Xuewei’s small team wasn’t weak! This also meant Sun Xuewei was likely doing alright.

”This is the place.”

Kuangliu pointed to the building in front of them and led the way inside.

”I personally came here a while ago and met Sun Xuewei. She didn’t want to leave with me, so I told my subordinates to give these women some preferential treatment.”

”Thank you.”

Kuangliu waved his hand dismissively.

Wen Yu understood, of course, that all of Kuangliu’s efforts were due to him—or rather, due to his strength. While this was merely a transaction between him and the military, Kuangliu’s personal visit to this small group stationed in the outer city zone spoke volumes. It demonstrated just how much clout Wen Yu, as Sequence Number 2, truly possessed!

Kuangliu took a few steps forward, then stopped in front of the small building.

After a moment, distinct footsteps sounded from upstairs, and a few fully armed women walked out.

”You again?”

The woman in the lead, likely in her twenties, spoke first, a hint of confusion and impatience in her tone.

Kuangliu gave a wry smile, shook his head, and stepped aside, revealing Wen Yu behind him.

...

”What? You didn’t reveal your identity?” Wen Yu took two steps forward, asking Kuangliu first instead of addressing the women.

Kuangliu shook his head.

”These independent groups aren’t very fond of the army.”

He spoke very quietly, and with his deliberate control, only the two of them could hear.

Upon hearing Kuangliu’s explanation, Wen Yu nodded. As the old saying goes, ’Those skilled in martial arts often flout the law.’ These non-military professionist groups, perhaps for some so-called freedom or other eccentric reasons, didn’t particularly care for the military as a ruling power. In fact, they often harbored an inexplicable hostility towards it. Just like himself—if it weren’t for Sun Xuewei, he might never have returned to the Yanjing Assembly Site in his life!

Wen Yu first sized up the women who had emerged, then spoke.

”My name is Wen Yu. I’m here to find Sun Xuewei. Her father, Sun Ruixing, asked me to find her.”

Hearing Wen Yu’s words, the leading woman looked him up and down before speaking.

”It seems you’re also from the army, eh? You people really go to great lengths to get close to Xuewei.”

The first half of her sentence was at a normal volume, but the second half was more of a mutter. Unfortunately, with Wen Yu’s strength, nothing could escape his notice.

Wen Yu remained silent. Kuangliu, standing to the side, also shook his head indifferently.

After a short while, the leading woman spoke again.

”Do you have any proof?”

Wen Yu directly retrieved the pendant Sun Ruixing had left for him from his space ring and tossed it to the woman.

The woman carefully examined the pendant, then looked at Wen Yu again. After a moment, she finally said, ”Come with me. But only you.”

Wen Yu nodded, then said to Kuangliu, ”Looks like I’ll have to trouble you to wait for me for a bit.”

”Not a problem!”

...

The process of meeting Sun Xuewei went smoothly, as Wen Yu had already presented the proof.

And it was obvious that although these women had formed a group, they didn’t have any strange rules, such as men not being allowed to enter.

On the way to Sun Xuewei’s location, Wen Yu also had a brief exchange with the professionist leading him.

This small group was considered quite formidable in the outer city zone because their leader had advanced just the day before yesterday, becoming a Third-level professionist—a powerhouse in the outer city.

In Wen Yu’s eyes, although the strength of a Third-level professionist was insignificant, there was no denying that in this place, a Third-level professionist was already powerful enough to dominate.

The woman leading the way was quite talkative and curious about Wen Yu and Kuangliu’s identities, constantly asking questions. Wen Yu merely responded with a smile.

Before long, the woman had led Wen Yu to a room.

”This is our infirmary. Xuewei is in charge of our medical work here.”

After she finished speaking, she pushed open the door.

Then Wen Yu saw the woman in a white coat.

She looked exactly like the woman in the photo.

This book’s official release is on Qidian. I’d appreciate it if readers enjoying it elsewhere could come support Da Bai on the original platform. Subscriptions have been a bit low recently, so I’m begging for your support! Even a recommendation vote would be great!

I also want to share something from my heart. I’ve been in a bit of a slump lately. Subscriptions are down, and some readers have expressed significant doubts about the recent plot developments.

Honestly, I’m feeling quite exhausted.

I’ll say more in a separate author’s note below!
