Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 248: Chapter 41: Vermilion Bird, White Tiger!_1

”Tell me about the military.”

Seeing Xiao Xue looking at the distant Yanjing Assembly Site, seemingly lost in thought, Wen Yu couldn’t help but ask.

Upon hearing Wen Yu’s request, Xiao Xue immediately shook her head.

”I can’t do that. The rebirth plan has already been abandoned; I can tell you about that. But as for the internal situation of the military, unless you’re willing to join, I really can’t disclose it.”

Upon hearing Xiao Xue’s words, Wen Yu chuckled softly.

”Then if I join the military, what benefits can you offer me?”

Xiao Xue lightly covered her mouth, laughing as she spoke.

”A War God title and corresponding status, plus privileges within the military, as well as various material pleasures. Is that enough?”

”Beauty, power, everything you could want—as long as you follow orders! Of course, you only need to follow Commander Lin’s orders! I can assure you, with your strength, you will become a hero who attracts much attention! More noticeable than Lord Kuangliu! You will become a symbol of the military!”

Wen Yu shook his head helplessly and said half-jokingly, ”You military folk are quite realistic. I haven’t even stepped into the Yanjing Assembly Site, and you’re already planning for Kuangliu to make way.”

Xiao Xue winked playfully at Wen Yu.

”I never said that the military only has one War God!!!”

”Alright, alright, let’s not talk about this anymore. I’ve already violated regulations by saying this much.”

Seeing Wen Yu deep in thought, Xiao Xue playfully pushed him, interrupting his train of thought.

”So, Kuangliu is only one of the War Gods?”

Xiao Xue nodded and then spoke mysteriously to Wen Yu, ”Kuangliu is just the War God known to the public. The other Lord War Gods, well, they’re a bit special... But you’ll be meeting them soon. Don’t be surprised then.”

Wen Yu clicked his tongue. ”Tsk, tsk... Are they coming to pick me up? Or are you planning to give me a show of force? This is getting interesting.”

”They are indeed coming to pick you up. To be precise, *that one* isn’t coming for you. As for a show of force...”

Xiao Xue, seeing the thoughtful expression on Wen Yu’s face, couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

In the distance, dust billowed as a military vehicle sped over from afar!

”They’re here,” Xiao Xue said immediately, her expression turning serious as she saw the approaching military vehicle.

At the same time, a Spiritual Fluctuation transmitted to Wen Yu’s mind. It was Star.

”Boss, it’s the aura of our kind—Level 4 strength!”

Level 4, our kind... Wen Yu nodded.

There could only be one explanation for what Star meant by ’our kind’! The one arriving was also a divine beast!

Looking at the approaching military vehicle, Wen Yu’s Level 4 professionist eyesight allowed him to clearly see that there was only one human inside.

Kuangliu...

And standing on his shoulder was a small, crimson bird.

The bird wasn’t large, only about half the size of Star in his miniature state. Its entire body was covered in crimson feathers that seemed like flickering flames, and its pair of crimson eyes shimmered with a faint spiritual light.

Before the military vehicle drew near, a voice, clear and crisp like a little girl’s, echoed in Wen Yu’s mind.

”Are you Sequence Number 2?”

Star had mastered this ability at the Third-level; it wasn’t surprising that a Level 4 divine beast could use Spirit Telepathy.

Wen Yu nodded.

Then, the Soul sound transmission came again: ”So, the fellow on your shoulder is one of my kind?”

”Of course! Can’t you sense my powerful life fluctuations? If you didn’t have the same scent as me, I wouldn’t believe someone with your IQ could be a divine beast!” Before Wen Yu could respond, Star directly connected with the crimson bird’s consciousness, exclaiming loudly in Wen Yu’s mind.

”It’s mainly your drab, dusty appearance. It’s rather hard to believe! It’s truly unimaginable that a magnificent being like myself would have such an ugly kinsman! Look at you, all covered in dust! Goodness, how long has it been since you bathed?”

The mocking tone in the Spiritual Fluctuation made Star jump in anger!

Before Star could say anything, a crimson light shot out from the military vehicle, boring a large hole through its roof, and landed on Wen Yu’s shoulder.

Wen Yu glanced at the small bird on his shoulder, instantly becoming wary.

This little thing is incredibly fast! Even with my physical abilities outside of a combat state, I almost didn’t react in time!

Seeing the little bird land directly on Wen Yu’s shoulder, Xiao Xue saluted it and said with a hint of amusement in her tone, ”Greetings, Lord Vermilion Bird.”

The little bird glanced at Xiao Xue, its small head bobbing proudly twice to acknowledge her. Only then did it turn back to size up Star, who was perched on Wen Yu’s head.

After scrutinizing Star for a full minute, the little bird finally emitted this Spiritual Fluctuation: ”The more I look, the uglier you seem...”

Star’s tail was the response to the little bird.

Watching the two divine beasts bickering on his shoulder and head, Wen Yu felt a headache coming on. He grabbed one in each hand and tossed them far away.

Fortunately, the two divine beasts were too busy trying to harm each other to pay attention to Wen Yu’s action.

A red light glowed around the little bird, and then it shot off at extreme speed.

Behind it, Star slowly spread its wings and followed closely. At the same time, a Spiritual Fluctuation entered Wen Yu’s mind: ”Boss, you guys go on ahead. I’ll find you after I pluck this fellow’s feathers.”

”Hehe, they’re really amusing. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the Vermilion Bird War God this lively.” Xiao Xue couldn’t help but laugh as she watched the two divine beasts fly into the distance at high speed.

Wen Yu shrugged helplessly. Having been with Star for so long, he naturally understood that Star’s current mood was more joyful than angry. It was the joy of meeting one of its own kind.

”Aren’t you going?” Wen Yu patted Cyclops, who was in his arms.

”WOOF WOOF...” Cyclops barked softly, then conveyed through their mental link, ”I’m afraid that crimson bird might eat me...”

”Then never mind,” Wen Yu replied.

Because of their mental link, Cyclops didn’t have any particular reaction when facing Star. However, it now seemed that the suppressive aura of a divine beast towards ordinary mutant beasts was quite formidable! Even if Cyclops was powerful, when facing a divine beast, it would be innately disadvantaged, both in terms of presence and actual strength.

Finally, the military vehicle pulled up in front of Wen Yu.

Kuangliu, sitting in the driver’s seat, smiled at Wen Yu and Xiao Xue. He straightened his collar, got out of the vehicle, and extended his right hand toward Wen Yu.

”Our first formal meeting. I am Lin Kuangliu, Sequence Number 3, currently holding the position of War God White Tiger in the military.”
