Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 239: Chapter 36 - I can make you live like a human_1

Once everyone had left the conference room, Wanping massaged his temples.

After Wan’an’s resentful spirit had been consumed, Wanping felt his thinking clear up significantly.

Perhaps it’s because Xiao’an’s body has been dead for too long.

This was Wanping’s only explanation.

After a while, Wanping seemed to remember something, got up, and left the conference room.

Outside, two henchmen who had once served Guan Tao stood at the door, waiting for Wanping.

For most of these people, it truly didn’t matter who was the boss, as long as they could benefit...

Wanping nodded at the two men and walked straight towards Guan Tao’s former office.

”Right,” Wanping seemed to recall something suddenly. He turned his head and looked at the two henchmen still standing in place. ”Do you remember I asked you to find a professionist with a small black spherical mark on his shoulder?”

The two men exchanged glances. After a moment, one of them spoke. ”We remember that, but wasn’t a message already sent back?”

Wanping nodded. ”Bring the person who sent back the message to see me.”

Seeing the two henchmen nod, Wanping then left.

In Central City, the communications officer had already connected with Yanjing.

When Wen Yu and Xiao Xue walked into the room, Kuangliu was already sitting opposite the screen.

Wen Yu sat before the screen, greeted Kuangliu first, and then got straight to business. ”Xiao Xue’s attempt to tame Simba failed; some unexpected circumstances arose. Xiao Xue will explain the details to you later. I heard there’s news about Sun Xuewei?”

Kuangliu nodded. ”Sun Xuewei has been found. She’s in a team in the city composed entirely of female professionists. I’ve already sent people to contact them, but she herself is unwilling to join the military department.”

Upon hearing the news about Sun Xuewei, Wen Yu said to Kuangliu, ”First, have someone keep an eye on her and don’t let Sun Xuewei leave the city for now. Wait for me to get there. I expect to set off in the next two days.”

”No problem.” Kuangliu nodded, indicating this was a minor issue he could easily handle.

”Then, see you in a few days.”

”See you in a few days.”

After Wen Yu finished speaking, he immediately left his seat and exited the communication room.

Seeing Wen Yu leave, an impatient Xiao Xue quickly sat down in front of the screen and began telling Kuangliu about the events of the past few days, including Wen Yu’s strength, the appearance of the Demon Worship Sect, and various other miscellaneous topics...

「...」

Wen Yu and Wang Zhigang stood outside the house, each with a cigarette dangling from their lips, incessantly puffing out clouds of smoke.

”Are you leaving?” Wang Zhigang was the first to ask.

Wen Yu nodded.

Although Mudanjiang City was my hometown, the surrounding mutant beasts and zombies were insufficient to provide the magic crystals and points I needed for advancement. Here, my strength would completely stagnate. Staying here would just be a waste of my life.

Wang Zhigang hadn’t thought that far ahead. Seeing Wen Yu admit he was about to leave Mudanjiang City, he immediately asked, ”How about a farewell dinner tonight then?”

Wen Yu exhaled a heavy puff of smoke and shook his head. ”Forget it. I don’t have much time left anyway. After I settle a few minor things, I’ll be leaving. No need to go to such trouble.”

Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Wang Zhigang smiled. ”You probably don’t have any water at your place, right? And those clothes... you need a change.”

Upon hearing Wang Zhigang’s words, Wen Yu finally noticed his own hygiene. Although the previous battle hadn’t harmed him, the pervasive dust and dirt from the battlefield were undeniably real. Not only Wen Yu’s clothes, but even Cyclops and Star were completely covered in dust.

Wang Zhigang continued, ”Besides, regarding the information you asked me to look into, I’ve already assigned people to it. We should have news by tomorrow morning at the latest. So, I think you should wait here for a day.”

Wen Yu gave a wry smile and shook his head. ”Alright, it seems you’ve persuaded me.”

「...」

In Guan Tao’s former office, Wanping sat in the chair that had once belonged to Guan Tao, staring intently at the professionist his subordinates had brought before him.

”Your name is...?”

The professionist stood timidly, lips trembling, and stammered, ”I... my name is Ye Nan.”

”Ah, Ye Nan, right? I heard Wen Yu lives next door to you?”

Ye Nan nodded nervously.

Ye Nan, who had been scavenging in the city district, was found by Wanping’s men and hauled directly before Wanping. Therefore, Ye Nan naturally had no idea why Wanping was looking for him.

”By the way, who else is in your household?”

At Wanping’s question, Ye Nan shuddered. His experiences in the post-apocalyptic world had made him extremely fearful and wary of such questions.

Seeing Ye Nan’s nervous and fearful expression, Wanping gave a slight smile. Then, Wanping’s right hand slapped Ye Nan across the face.

The force of the blow sent Ye Nan sprawling to the ground. A clear red handprint bloomed on his face. He coughed twice, spitting out a slightly yellowed tooth.

”I... am asking you a question!”

”There’s... also a wife... and a child...”

Getting his answer, Wanping nodded with satisfaction, turned, and sat back down in the soft executive chair. He continued, ”With your meager strength, it must be tough to provide for your wife and child by scavenging, right?”

Ye Nan trembled as he nodded. On one hand, it was because the injury on his face throbbed with constant pain; on the other, it was his fear of Wanping.

He feared Wanping would harm his wife and child...

Wanping remained silent for a long moment, then abruptly said, ”I’m giving you a chance, a chance to change your fate!”

Seeing Ye Nan look up in surprise, Wanping smiled faintly and took out a small, transparent plastic bag from his space ring. He gave it a slight shake, and the white powder inside the plastic bag shifted slightly.

”Go back, find an opportunity to invite Wen Yu for a meal, and then add the contents of this to the food.”

Wanping stood up, walked over to the slightly hunched Ye Nan, grabbed his hand, and stuffed the small plastic bag into it.

”Remember, if you succeed in this, I can ensure you live like a proper human being!”

Seeing Ye Nan nod with difficulty, Wanping gave a satisfied laugh, then spoke to the professionist guarding the door. ”Go, get this... Mr. What’s-his-name a bottle of healing potion, and bring some more supplies.”

After giving his orders, Wanping looked at Ye Nan’s conflicted eyes and said slowly, ”Consider these things my advance investment in you. As long as you accomplish this, you’ll have everything you want!”

”But, if you don’t succeed...” Wanping looked at Ye Nan before him, leaving the rest unsaid.

”Go and get it done.”

Ye Nan hesitated for a moment, then turned and left the room.

When Ye Nan had gone, Wanping reclined in the chair, rubbing his temples incessantly. After a while, Wanping seemed to think of something. He stood up, took out a bottle of clear liquid from his space ring, and poured it all over himself. Then, he jumped out of the window and walked off into the distance.
