Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 245: Chapter 39 Two Choices_2

”I... How could I dare to frame you, Sir...”

”Hmm.” Wanping chuckled slightly at Ye Nan, then continued, ”Well then, let’s verify one more issue!”

「...」

Wanping sat on the sofa, looking at the table of food that hadn’t yet been cleared. He then said, ”Right, the people in the room... your wife and child, correct? Call them out!”

With Wanping’s power, knowing if there was anyone inside the house was a simple matter. It was just like how Wen Yu could hear the heartbeats of Ye Nan and his wife.

Upon hearing Wanping’s words, Ye Nan shivered abruptly.

THUMP!

He immediately knelt before Wanping, pleading, ”Master, I was wrong! I failed to do what you commanded. I am at fault, and I accept punishment! But please, Master, spare my wife and child! I beg you...”

”HUSH, HUSH, HUSH...” Wanping made a hushing sound, gesturing for Ye Nan to be silent.

Then, Wanping finally spoke. ”Believe me, I’m not blaming you for this trivial matter. Really. You have to trust in my magnanimity! I simply want to see this family you’ve sacrificed so much for, to see what they’re truly like. Besides, I come to your home as a guest, and you don’t even introduce your family members to me. That makes me feel insulted!!! Don’t you agree?”

Wanping looked at Ye Nan seriously. Seeing him still kneeling and pleading in agony, Wanping couldn’t help but sigh. ”I’ve already told you, I really won’t blame you for such a trivial matter. Don’t you believe me? Or do I need to go and fetch your wife and child myself?”

Hearing Wanping’s tone grow increasingly severe, Ye Nan gritted his teeth, stood up, walked to the bedroom door, and called out his wife and child.

「...」

Looking at the trembling family of three before him, Wanping rose to his feet and nodded at Ye Nan. ”That’s more like it. Now then, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wanping. I’m the one who ordered you to poison Wen Yu.”

”So, let’s get down to business!”

Wanping slowly walked to the dining table, speaking in a low, calm voice. ”Just now, Ye Nan and I were discussing matters of ’feeling.’ Seeing the three of you, honestly, my tender heart has been touched.”

”Tsk, tsk, Ye Nan, look at these two beside you. To tell you the truth, I’m quite envious. Familial love, romantic love—you have it all. These are things I lack. You truly are a man of deep feeling!”

An exaggerated smile spread across Wanping’s face as he gave Ye Nan a thumbs-up.

Ye Nan and his family, however, all stared at Wanping, their faces etched with terror.

”Honestly, seeing this, I truly wonder if you might be even *more* a man of feeling? For instance, capable of something like... friendship?”

”It’s quite possible, very possible indeed! You were with Wen Yu, and then you developed some feelings for him—something like friendship. That’s highly probable!”

”And then, you couldn’t bring yourself to poison him. So, you didn’t put any poison in the food at all!!!”

The more Wanping considered it, the more plausible this seemed. He nodded slowly, sat down where Wen Yu had previously been sitting, and said deliberately, ”The poison I gave you is extremely lethal. Someone with at least Level 4 strength definitely couldn’t withstand its effects. And most importantly, it’s colorless and odorless!”

”Colorless and odorless means Wen Yu wouldn’t detect poison in the food, and neither would I. So... did you... or did you NOT... add the poison?!”

Hearing Wanping’s words, Ye Nan suddenly snapped to his senses. ”I did! I really did, Master! It’s in that tureen of thick soup! Master, I real...ly did... add it...”

Ye Nan seemed to grasp Wanping’s intention and shouted loudly, but when he met Wanping’s chilling gaze, full understanding dawned.

He understood why Wanping had made him call out his wife and child...

He understood that something terrible was about to happen to his family...

He understood that the man before him was the true nightmare...

Then, Ye Nan collapsed to the ground in anguish, tears streaming uncontrollably from his eyes.

「...」

”Such a smart man!”

Seeing Ye Nan’s expression, Wanping nodded in satisfaction. ”It seems you understand what I’m going to do. To be honest, I like smart people. You’re very clever; I’m willing to deal with you.”

Slowly choosing his words, Wanping spoke gently to the sobbing Ye Nan and his utterly terrified wife and child. ”You know, some boring people often ask boring questions. For example, if your wife and child both fell into the water, which one would you save?”

”Coincidentally, Wen Yu wasn’t poisoned today, which has left me a little displeased. So, I’m angry. And then I realized I probably can’t get rid of him anytime soon, so my life has become boring again!”

”Boring people always do boring things. So now, I need someone to test the poison for me, to verify whether you actually poisoned the food or not! To prove your innocence! But I didn’t bring any subordinates with me today! So...”

”Ye Nan. Your wife, or your child. Choose one!!!”

「...」

Ye Nan shakily lifted his head. Looking at the broadly smiling man before him, he clenched his fists tightly.

After a long moment, as if he had exhausted all his strength, Ye Nan slowly rose. He walked mechanically to the table and began to speak softly.
