Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 228: Chapter 26 Tri-Soul Demon_1

The black-robed man glanced at Star, whose figure was growing increasingly distant, then turned to look at Wen Yu, trembling as he asked, ”What was that just now?”

No doubt the face hidden beneath his black robe was deathly pale!

”That thing...” Wen Yu calmly fired a shot at Wanping, then continued, ”Your worst nightmare!”

The black-robed man instantly fell silent.

Just looking at its physique revealed how terrifying Star’s combat power was in its battle form. Based on his calculations, Cyclops wouldn’t be a match for the Giant Dragon. In their brief encounter, he had never taken Star seriously, nor had he managed to acquire any of Star’s biological tissue. Now, a bitter taste rose in his mouth, and a wave of regret washed over him. ”This is bad...” That was the first thought that crossed his mind.

Yet Wen Yu still felt somewhat uneasy. After all, Star and Cyclops had never faced each other directly, and no one knew the limits of Cyclops’s Mortal Combat ability. I can’t be one hundred percent certain that Star can defeat Cyclops. If Star loses, the situation will become truly dire!

「...」

Looking at the two people before him, Wen Yu calmly raised his Palpitation Mad Medley but said nothing.

These two should both be at Level 4. One-on-one, I wouldn’t fear either of them. But if they team up, it’ll be troublesome! I’m not naive enough to think these two pose no threat. According to the original plan, after I and my two companions split up, I was to tie down these two opponents, while Cyclops and Star each dealt with a mutant beast. So, while my opponents hesitate, their apprehension buys time for the other two battlefields to slowly show results. I’m not in a hurry. Not at all!

Unfortunately, perhaps because Wen Yu’s plan was too obvious, the black-robed man glanced first at Wen Yu, then at the two dust-filled areas to the sides, and spoke directly to Wanping, ”You hold him off. I’ll go support Simba and the sacred beast.”

Seeing Wanping nod, the black-robed man first used Teleportation to dodge an incoming bullet from the Palpitation Mad Medley, then vanished completely.

Wen Yu raised an eyebrow at the black-robed man’s skill. Teleportation? What a useful skill.

That move alone extinguished any desire I had to chase and entangle him.

”It’s alright, I suppose,” Wanping said, noticing Wen Yu had no intention of pursuing the black-robed man. He nodded, then slowly began to unfasten his black robe, a smile playing on his lips as he faced Wen Yu. ”By the way, Wen Yu, Lin Li and my brother still haven’t properly greeted you!”

「...」

Wen Yu frowned, looking at Wanping’s slightly eerie smile.

When he was wearing his hood, Wanping seemed perfectly normal. But as he slowly undid the clasps of his black robe, an overwhelming sense of danger washed over me.

At the same time, Wanping’s voice sounded again. ”Actually, we saw you when you were fleeing with that dog.”

”That dog holds a grudge against you, doesn’t it?”

Seeing Wen Yu nod, Wanping continued, ”Strictly speaking, my brother took a bullet for you. So, you’re also partly responsible for my brother’s death!”

”Think whatever you like,” Wen Yu retorted, ”because today, I’m definitely going to kill you!”

The moment he finished speaking, he immediately opened fire, strafing Wanping rapidly.

Wanping watched the bullets sweeping towards him. A slight, chilling smile touched the corners of his lips as an incredibly eerie voice issued from his mouth, ”You! Dare! To try and kill me again!”

Then, the non-corporeal bullets heading straight for Wanping suddenly stopped dead in mid-air before slowly dissipating.

At the same time, Wanping’s black robe slithered to the ground.

「...」

Seeing Wanping, now bare to the waist, the corner of Wen Yu’s eye twitched violently.

His entire upper body was unnervingly smooth, like a blank sheet of paper. All hair, even his navel and other such features, had completely vanished.

Only two horrifying faces remained, one on his left chest and one on his right!

Those faces! I remember them! One was Wan’an, the other Lin Li!

At that moment, the face of Wan’an on Wanping’s left chest slowly opened its eyes.

It was pale, with several patches resembling corpse spots. Judging by their appearance, a considerable amount of time must have passed since Wan’an’s death before Wanping transplanted this face onto himself.

As this grotesque face’s eyes slowly opened, Wanping’s voice began to shift unsettlingly. One moment it was Wanping’s usual, calm tone; the next, it was a sharp, wraith-like screech.

”’This...’ The word, though short, seemed to emanate from two distinct voices speaking as one. ’Is my brother, Wan’an! Come on, say hello to an old friend.’”

As Wanping finished speaking, the eyes on Wan’an’s face on his left chest snapped fully open. A crimson beam of light shot out from them, streaking towards Wen Yu.

It was fast, but not beyond Wen Yu’s ability to react.

With a slight twist of his body, Wen Yu dodged Wan’an’s attack. At the same time, his hands, never stopping, unleashed a barrage of bullets at Wanping!

Unfortunately, it was completely ineffective.

Any bullet that came within three meters of Wanping instantly dissipated!

Gazing at the composed Wanping and the fiercely screeching face of Wan’an, Wen Yu’s brow furrowed. He asked gravely, ”What in the world *are* you?”

「...」

Name: Wanping.

Class: Tri-Soul Demon (A trinity; requires the devouring of two other professionists to fully unleash the terrifying potential of the Tri-Soul Demon class.)

Skill Number One: Soul Devouring (S-Class, Active Ability): Upon activation, allows the user to devour the corpse of a professionist, completely inheriting their physical attributes. The face of the devoured individual will then appear on the user’s body. Note: If the devoured individual died harboring deep resentment, the power gained by the Tri-Soul Demon will be significantly amplified, but this carries a risk of backlash! A maximum of two professionists can be devoured.

Skill Number Two: Evil Spirit Swarm (A-Class, Active Ability): Eerie Energy Fluctuations emanate from the eyes and mouth of the devoured faces on the user’s body. These Energy Fluctuations deal almost negligible physical damage but inflict potent corrosive and mental shock effects.

Skill Number Three: Soul Field (S-Class, Passive Skill): A terrifying power radiates from the user’s entire body, making the host impervious to ranged attacks. Whenever a ranged attack enters within three meters of the body, the formidable field energy will directly cause Annihilation to the incoming attack, consuming physical strength proportional to the attack’s power.

Skill Number Four: ??????

A hidden profession of the Tri-Soul Demon’s caliber ensures that any skills acquired through advancement are intimately related to the profession itself. This is what makes high-level hidden professions so formidable!

Wanping’s ability to advance to Level 4 so rapidly was largely thanks to his Soul Devouring skill. First, he devoured Wan’an’s corpse, and then Lin Li’s. His current state clearly indicated he’d suffered a significant backlash, testament to the profound depth of Lin Li’s hatred at the moment of her death.

Wanping’s Soul Field was indeed the ability that had just blocked Wen Yu’s bullets. Furthermore, a key characteristic of the Tri-Soul Demon class is possessing three times the physical strength of an ordinary professionist.

Of course, Wen Yu was oblivious to all this information, just as Wanping knew nothing of Wen Yu’s capabilities.
