Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 217: Chapter 17: Fang Bai (Extra update for 200 monthly votes received in April!)_1

As night fell, Wen Yu parted ways with Ye Nan and his family, retreating into his own little nest.

Star was already sleeping soundly on the couch.

Gazing at the night outside, Wen Yu reflected on the past few days. He had heard and seen a lot. Life was mundane, but it had its flavors. However, Wen Yu would never forget what had led to this peaceful life! It was all thanks to his strength! Only because he was powerful could he enjoy luxuries in this terrifying apocalypse that others couldn’t!

”Time to get to work tomorrow.”

Thinking about the impending arrival of the military’s super warrior Number One and Simba near East Mountain, Wen Yu slowly closed his eyes, adjusting his state.

The tranquility of life made Wen Yu comfortable, but having experienced the apocalypse once, he knew that while life could be calm, his heart could never be! Only slaughter, only strength, was his greatest safeguard!

And in this slightly quiet night, City CD, hailed as The Kingdom of the Heavenly Capital, was destined for turmoil!

「...」

In a city ruin, Kuangliu stood atop a collapsed building, waiting quietly. He had departed from the military base in the morning with Number One. Various means of transportation, coupled with the speed of a Level 4 professionist, had allowed him to reach this land in mere hours. If he hadn’t been concerned about consuming too much stamina, Kuangliu could have arrived even sooner!

The battlefield he chose was the result of careful deliberation. The number of mutant beasts within the city was small, meaning their battle would not be interrupted by other creatures! Additionally, this place was desolate, ensuring that the aftermath of their battle wouldn’t harm innocent people!

As a provincial capital, City CD naturally suffered greater damage after the apocalypse, but correspondingly, it also had more powerful experts! Unfortunately, the mightiest powerful expert in City CD had already been eliminated by Fang Bai! This had led to the CD Assembly Site falling out of military control.

Kuangliu had only one goal: to restore order! Kill Fang Bai, and all problems would be solved! As for what Lin Haifeng had said, the older generation believed in always leaving a way out for others. But now, with a life-and-death feud, why bother being merciful?

Just as Kuangliu stood with his arms crossed, gazing at the moon, a tall figure slowly appeared in his field of vision. His unruly hair fluttered in the wind. Each step was as meticulously measured as if calculated; from his stride alone, one could discern the discipline and military bearing of the man. His smooth face boasted skin as fair as a woman’s. From his handsome features and the wicked smile that unintentionally played on his lips, one could tell this man was definitely an experienced lover, a libertine!

Unfortunately, a hideous scar divided his entire face in two!

The newcomer was Fang Bai!

Seeing Kuangliu, who was drawing nearer as he himself approached, Fang Bai offered a slight smile. His clear voice came from his mouth, ”Kuangliu, you found time to visit me today?”

Kuangliu nodded, then pursed his lips and gestured towards the scar on Fang Bai’s face. ”Why haven’t you healed it? You can afford a healing potion, can’t you? Such a shame about your face.”

”Oh, you mean this?” Fang Bai touched the scar on his face and said indifferently, ”It’s to remind me that my best friend struck me! Almost killed me! I left it as a memento. You wouldn’t mind, would you, Kuangliu?”

Kuangliu was silent for a moment, then slowly shook his head. ”I just think it’s a pity. Such a shame about your face, really!”

”Hehe, you’re probably just regretting that you didn’t kill me with that strike, aren’t you?”

And then, both of them fell silent.

After a moment, Kuangliu spoke first. ”Come back with me. The old man wants you to return.”

Hearing Kuangliu’s words, Fang Bai fell silent for a moment. ”Thank Commander Lin for me, but you know it’s impossible.”

”In this world, the victors rule and the losers suffer. That’s just the way it is. So, my father died, and I don’t blame Commander Lin. Really. He wasn’t as strong, didn’t have as many trump cards, yet he still dreamt of rebelling and becoming the leader! Who can he blame for his death?”

”But, there’s an old saying in Cathay: the grudge for a father’s murder is irreconcilable. I watched with my own eyes as your father used a steel saber to cut off my father’s head. So, spare me your useless pleas.”

Hearing Fang Bai’s increasingly cold voice, Kuangliu nodded lightly. ”Forget what I just said. Those words were just to save face for Commander Lin. My real purpose in coming here is to kill you!”

Fang Bai nodded. ”That’s more like you. No family affection, no love, no care for friendship, only concerned with yourself—a cold-blooded animal. It was a waste for me to have considered you my big brother back then. I was so naive.”

After speaking, Fang Bai slowly reached his right hand towards the space ring on his left hand. Then, he drew out a twin crescent blades halberd that was one and a half times a man’s height!

Kuangliu nodded. Seeing Fang Bai ready for battle, he directly retrieved a 2-meter long Giant War Blade from his space ring!

Then, one with a blade, the other with a halberd, they charged ferociously at each other!

In an instant, the sounds of clashing metal became a continuous roar!

Both possessed Early Stage Level 4 strength, physical conditioning just breaking 200 points, and were warriors intensively trained by the military! This meant their actual combat capabilities were not significantly different!

Within a short time, the shockwaves from their exchange had already pulverized the surrounding ruins, yet neither had gained a clear advantage over the other.

The Giant War Blade in Kuangliu’s hand chopped down powerfully, its body suddenly flashing with blue electrical arcs!

Thunder (S-Class, Active Ability): Wield Heaven’s judgment, control the power of lightning!

S-Class, elemental type ability! And at Level 4, one could already unleash a considerable degree of an elemental type ability’s power!

The electrical arcs on the war blade in Kuangliu’s hand trembled, then suddenly extended like a whip, fiercely lashing towards Fang Bai’s body.

Seeing this strike, the coldness in Fang Bai’s eyes intensified! ”Kuangliu, damn you, you’re really not holding back!”

Then, a Black Light flashed over Fang Bai’s entire body. The moment the thick electric python made contact with the Black Light, a brilliant flash erupted, and then it crackled and vanished.

Only Fang Bai’s body remained in place, along with an enormous phantom enveloping him.

Power of the Demon God (S-Class, Active Ability): A skill awakened only through trials of blood and fire. When activated, your body will be blessed with the power of the Demon God, and a Demon God Phantom will appear around you! Your strength will be amplified fivefold, but stamina consumption will also increase! Your strength will make all enemies grovel at your feet!

Then, Fang Bai’s eyes slowly turned red, until they emitted a terrifying bloody glow!

Will of the Demon God (S-Class, Active Ability): An unknown Demon God bestows power upon you and grants the host powerful combat instincts. While the Will of the Demon God is active, damage you receive will be reduced by ninety percent, and the host can choose to consume stamina to Strengthen physical attributes.

The moment the Will of the Demon God activated, Fang Bai’s muscle tissues visibly swelled.

Consume stamina, Strengthen physical attributes!

Although disadvantageous for a prolonged battle, in Fang Bai’s eyes, as long as the fight was resolved quickly, all problems would be solved!

The twin crescent blades halberd in his hand radiated a furious blood-red light.

Demonic Weapon (A-Class, Active Ability): Consumes stamina to enhance a Weapon’s sharpness; the effect depends on the amount of stamina consumed.

Of course, at this moment, Fang Bai didn’t have much stamina left to consume! If this were a group battle, Fang Bai’s fourth ability could restore a large amount of his stamina. Unfortunately, it was useless in a one-on-one duel!

This was also the fundamental reason Fang Bai had lost to Kuangliu in the competition for the title of War God!

Kuangliu watched as Fang Bai activated one skill after another, his aura growing increasingly powerful. After a moment, Kuangliu shook his head.

”Time’s up.”
