Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 147: Chapter 103: The Road to Survival (12) (1st update!)_1

”It’s my ability.”

”Bestial Instincts (A-Class, Passive ability): An exceptional combat instinct beyond the ordinary, allowing your ability to foresee danger to reach its peak!”

Jiang Wentao simply explained the effects of this ability to Wen Yu, then continued, ”Ever since we started approaching this pile of rubble, my ability has been warning me about the danger within, but...”

Jiang Wentao let out a bitter smile and continued, ”For a long time, my ability has primarily been useful when confronting opponents. It allows me to react quickly and roughly predict their combat capabilities. Perhaps it’s due to the high stress these past few days.”

”Hmm.”

Wen Yu responded briefly, then turned and headed towards where Ba Song was.

Although Jiang Wentao said he might be under too much stress, Wen Yu certainly didn’t believe it.

Everyone knows that the most important factor for cannon fodder to survive is to be cautious!

”Ba Song, can you sense this place again? Is there any danger?”

Seeing Wen Yu’s tightly furrowed brows and extremely serious expression, Ba Song immediately closed his eyes.

After a while, Ba Song opened his eyes and shook his head at Wen Yu.

”Still no danger. What’s wrong, Brother Wen Yu?”

Wen Yu stared intently into Ba Song’s eyes for a few moments, then shook his head.

Ba Song’s gaze was sincere, indicating he wasn’t lying.

Moreover, Ba Song had no reason to lie.

”It’s nothing.”

After three days together, Wen Yu still trusted Ba Song’s judgment. Besides, it was uncertain if they could find such an excellent campsite if they left now.

It would be better to rest here for the day.

”Get some rest.”

Wen Yu nodded at Ba Song before heading towards Princess Consort Feina, who was not far away.

”How are you feeling?” Wen Yu asked in a low voice.

Several days of strenuous travel had taken their toll on the delicate Feina. However, the Fourth Prince, as if protected by some unknown force, still stared at Wen Yu with wide, innocent eyes, appearing quite energetic.

”I’m fine, just sorry to have troubled you warriors.”

With that said, Feina took out food and water from her space ring and began to eat.

”And you?”

This question was directed at William, who was in charge of protecting Feina, and Wen Yu’s tone was decidedly unfriendly.

”Not dead yet!” William retorted.

These past few days, Wen Yu had ruthlessly implemented his policy of eliminating excess baggage, so William naturally wasn’t in a good mood.

In contrast, Sun Ruixing, who was nearby, said to Wen Yu, ”You’ve worked hard these last few days, Brother Wen Yu.”

Wen Yu’s efforts were clear to everyone. His methods might have been somewhat extreme, but it was undeniably the best choice for everyone’s safety.

Sun Ruixing was also one of those responsible for protecting Princess Consort Feina.

These two were honorable men; Wen Yu felt extremely assured leaving this task to them.

”Hmm,” Wen Yu responded nonchalantly to Sun Ruixing.

”Brother Wen Yu, I have something I want to discuss with you all,” a voice called out. It was Ba Song, walking over from a short distance away.

”What’s up?” Wen Yu looked at Ba Song, puzzled.

”Nothing much, I just wanted to show you something.”

Just as he finished speaking, Ba Song pulled an object from his clothes.

It was a cylindrical... plasma hand grenade.

And its safety was off!

The cylindrical plasma hand grenade flashed a red warning light. This, combined with Ba Song’s sincere expression, created a truly bizarre scene.

”Enemy attack!”

Before Wen Yu even finished shouting, he lunged forward. He grabbed Ba Song’s right hand, which held the grenade, and simultaneously positioned himself directly between Ba Song—or rather, the grenade—and Princess Consort Feina!

William reacted with lightning speed, immediately tackling Princess Consort Feina and the Fourth Prince to the ground.

At the same time, Sun Ruixing thrust his shield firmly in front of Princess Consort Feina!

In the blink of an eye, a brilliant Blue Light erupted from Ba Song’s hand.

Everyone’s figures were instantly engulfed by the Blue Light.

At the same time, the surrounding rocks began to tremble violently.

「...」

”Run! Get out of here!”

Just as Wen Yu shouted ”Enemy attack!” Jiang Wentao, who was not far away, had already reacted. After the grenade exploded, he quickly rushed towards Princess Consort Feina.

Wen Yu had blocked most of the plasma hand grenade’s blast!

However, this was a weapon capable of causing significant damage to Level 2 professionists. For Wen Yu to block it with his own body meant the outcome would naturally be grim.

The Blue Light flashed, and Ba Song, who had been standing opposite Wen Yu, was now a charred, unrecognizable mass, emitting the strong odor of burnt flesh.

Wen Yu’s body spasmed, and he dropped to one knee, spewing a mouthful of fresh blood.

The entire front of Wen Yu’s body was charred black by the plasma hand grenade, a horrifying sight!

Fortunately, Wen Yu’s sacrifice was not in vain.

William and the others behind him were not severely injured. Sun Ruixing’s arm was burned, and William sustained a slight leg injury, but it didn’t affect his mobility.

Under their protection, Princess Consort Feina and the Fourth Prince were completely unscathed!

”Damn it!” Seeing Wen Yu’s grievous injuries, Jiang Wentao couldn’t help but curse. He quickly helped Wen Yu up and followed William, who was carrying Princess Consort Feina on his back, as they ran out of the rubble pile.

The surrounding professionists reacted with incredible speed; as soon as the plasma hand grenade exploded, they had already evacuated the rubble pile.

The eerie situation, combined with the continuous trembling of the surrounding rocks, made it clear to everyone that this place was definitely not safe.

Jiang Wentao carried Wen Yu as he ran out of the rubble pile and quickly took a healing potion from his space ring.

”Drink it, quickly.”

Wen Yu was still conscious. Despite the severity of his injuries, a mere plasma grenade wasn’t enough to kill a Third-level professionist!

He immediately drank the healing potion Jiang Wentao handed him. As his wounds began to heal rapidly, Wen Yu heaved a long sigh of relief.

”Ba Song was most likely controlled. The place he led us to is probably dangerous too! Also, quickly retrieve all the plasma hand grenades from everyone. Damn it! I knew I shouldn’t have given these things to them!”

Having just been blasted by a plasma hand grenade, Wen Yu was filled with resentment. When the enemy possessed the ability to control their own professionists, plasma hand grenades were undeniably a massive liability.

Jiang Wentao nodded to Wen Yu, then turned and immediately began collecting the plasma hand grenades from everyone.

Monkey still had plenty of plasma hand grenades. They had been distributed with the intention of bolstering the group’s firepower. Who could have known they would nearly become everyone’s death warrant?

No one could be blamed for this; nobody had anticipated that a Demon Fiend could possess such an ability.
