Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 121: Chapter 78: War Zone_1

As Wen Yu and his team slowly approached the city wall, the magnificent structure gradually revealed its full grandeur.

As for its height, Wen Yu could not estimate. He could only see that around the middle of the city wall, a faint cloudiness had appeared. The wall was marred with faded scars and bloodstains, and the colors varied in many places.

Those were repairs made afterward!

”This wall has protected our tribe for a total of 27 years. Unfortunately, even the most magnificent construction cannot withstand the residual waves of battles between Level 10 professionists and the Level 10 Demon Tribe. We have tried to repair it many times, but it was of no use. It’s about to crumble! It could be today, or a month from now. Who knows?”

These melancholy words came from Walsey’s mouth, causing Wen Yu to suddenly understand.

A regular officer would certainly not say these things to a clueless recruit; moreover, these things were well known to soldiers. Even Wen Yu, whose current status was cannon fodder, was no exception!

Unless...

This person is the ”guide” for his team’s trial!

”There’s something wrong with Walsey, right?”

Jiang Wentao’s whisper reached Wen Yu’s ear, but his voice was a bit too loud, loud enough for Walsey, who was not far ahead, to hear.

However, Walsey showed no reaction.

”There is a problem,” Wen Yu confidently answered.

”Let’s go, onto the city wall. I’ll delimit the combat area for you!”

When they reached the base of the city wall, all of them stood on a huge platform following Walsey’s direction.

Walsey directly pressed a few buttons on the platform, and a roar of machinery echoed as the gigantic platform rapidly ascended.

”Let me briefly introduce the current situation to you.”

”Currently, we, the Silver Moon Tribe, are facing a massive labor shortage, and the Demon Tribe’s offensive is becoming increasingly fierce! Therefore, you need to hold your positions for three days to get a short rest.”

”The combat area I have divided for you primarily contains Level 1 and Level 2 Demon Fiends, with a very small portion of third-level Demon Fiends. There’s an Exchange Stone Pillar at the center of the combat zone to ensure your supplies. Remember, your equipment, food, and even drinking water all need to be bought through the Exchange Stone Pillar. Once we send you up there, there will be no such thing as logistic supplies!”

”Do you understand?”

”Yes, we understand.”

Scattered responses arose, and hearing Walsey’s words, everyone began to discuss animatedly.

”Isn’t this just handing out points? By occupying the advantage of the city wall and killing some Level 1 monsters, won’t our strength improve significantly?”

”Yeah, the powerful experts can handle the higher-level ones, and we can just take advantage of their work.”

”This treasure land is truly bringing us benefits and warmth!”

Hearing the laughter behind him, Wen Yu gave a sneer of disdain.

These people may not understand what a Demon Fiend is at all. They might think that so-called Demon Fiends are monsters conjured by the treasure land, specifically to give out points.

Demon Fiends bring anything but warmth!

”In a while, you guys follow me, and we stick together. Don’t get separated, understood?” Wen Yu said to Sun Ruixing, Sun Aotian, and Jiang Wentao behind him.

”This trial isn’t going to be that easy.”

Upon hearing the serious tone of Wen Yu’s voice, Jiang Wentao quietly nodded.

”Oh right, Old Sun, call Knight over. Hmm, also bring Chu Ziling.”

After reconsidering, Wen Yu decided to pull the powerful experts William and Chu Ziling over.

Having lived through the demon plague in his past life, Wen Yu understood what they were about to face!

This will be an incredibly tough battle, and war is not a place for individual heroics!

At least, not with Wen Yu’s current strength!

...

”We’re here.”

As the platform started to slow down, Wen Yu and the others came to a stop at least 500 meters above the ground.

”This is a defense area at the base of the wall. The Demon Fiends haven’t launched an attack yet, so you better get in there quickly.”

Right after Walsey finished speaking, a large arch gate opened before them in the city wall.

Inside, it was full of bodies on the verge of stinking!

”Hmm, see that?” Walsey pointed at a terribly mangled corpse inside.

It was already reduced to a skeleton, but the fragments of silver hair on its head still allowed everyone to recognize its identity.

”This, then, would be your predecessor. He was the former captain of the vanguard camp of our Fifth Squad. Now, I am officially announcing that you are the new vanguard camp of the Fifth Squad, and this is your defense zone!”

”In three days, others will come to relieve you! Your mission is to survive these three days!”

”Good luck!”

As soon as Walsey finished speaking, he took a deep look at everyone and turned to leave.

As Walsey departed, the city wall closed once again.

Now, apart from the entrance 500 meters above the ground outside the city, there was no other way out!

...

Wen Yu briefly surveyed the environment inside the city wall.

The interior space, over 10 meters high, was quite large, enough to accommodate nearly a hundred people, including Wen Yu’s group. In the middle stood an Exchange Stone Pillar emitting light.

Apart from the front, all sides were dark city walls.

”The design is quite good!” Jiang Wentao commented casually from behind.

”This defense line is intended to relieve the pressure on the top of the city wall. Judging by the size of the entrance, larger beings cannot get in. The battlefield environment is not bad, and I think there must be some methods that can restrict anything above the third level from entering. It indirectly serves as a training exercise.”

”However, judging by the current situation, the Silver Moon Tribe’s war potential has been completely depleted. I’m afraid this place is a death trap!”

”Hmm.”

Hearing Jiang Wentao’s words, Wen Yu nodded.

For so many to have died in a place that served more as a training ground than a defensive position, it truly showed what a dire situation the Silver Moon Tribe was in!

”What could the trial task be? It can’t simply be to defend this place for three days, right?” Wen Yu asked, puzzled.

”It won’t be,” William spoke up. ”Given three days, if there aren’t any creatures above the third level, I have ways to hold out! Somehow, I feel it won’t be that simple.”

Wen Yu looked at William’s confident expression and instantly understood that William also had quite a few cards up his sleeve.

Given William’s personality, he wasn’t the type to boast!

”Did Sun Ruixing tell you about my proposal? What do you think?” William looked at Wen Yu earnestly and asked.

”That’s what I wanted to discuss with you as well. I believe that if all of us work together, we can complete this trial. Why do we have to split into small teams?”
