Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 129: Chapter 86 Cruel_1

”These morons!” Jiang Wentao cursed when he saw the professionists scattering.

In the battlefield, especially one dominated by melee weapons, fleeing does not guarantee survival. Exposing your back to the enemy often means a faster death!

Therefore, in the face of the flying tongues of countless Salamander Demonic Beings, less than half of the professionists managed to escape.

In that brief encounter, the professionists had lost over twenty lives. Their only achievements were killing about ten Salamander Demonic Beings and a few Level 1 Soot Skin Demon Fiends, with the majority of these kills made by Burly Bear’s sniper rifle.

”So, this trash isn’t worth saving,” Wen Yu gazed at the rapidly surging Demon Fiends and, with a thought, extended his Touch of Greed to its maximum length.

He swung out the ten claws, gleaming with cold light, straight at the professionists panicking and fleeing towards him. SLASH. The professionist closest to Wen Yu, just as a glimmer of joy at having narrowly escaped death flashed in his eyes, was torn into several pieces by Wen Yu’s attack.

”Brother Wen Yu, what are you doing? They’re human!” Sun Aotian, who was behind Wen Yu, couldn’t help but yell when he saw Wen Yu turn his weapon on the professionists.

”Idiot, use your brain! Haven’t you seen that none of the soldiers are saying anything?” Wen Yu gave a cold snort as his Touch of Greed swung again. Reinforced by his physical attributes of over 100 points, the Touch of Greed whipped up a powerful gust of wind. In an instant, it tore apart an approaching Soot Skin Demon Fiend and also decapitated a nearby professionist.

This time, everyone understood Wen Yu’s intentions.

”Stay the hell away! I’m not providing any protection here.”

”Wen Yu, what are you doing?” This time it was William speaking, who was entangled with the Third-Level Salamander Monster. His anger was clear from his tone.

”Heh, what am I doing? My formation is already set. If this trash breaks it, we’ll all die. So...” Wen Yu’s voice grew heavier as he spoke.

”If you approach our combat range, I will start a massacre! If you want to live, withstand this wave of Demon Fiends yourselves!”

Just as Wen Yu finished speaking, another type of Demon Fiend appeared at the entrance to the city wall.

It had a body nearly 3 meters tall, with two sturdy, hairy legs brimming with muscle, similar in proportion to a human’s. However, the head atop its neck was that of a gigantic bull.

Wen Yu’s heart sank.

The bull demon, one of the main combat races of the Demon Tribe.

Numerous and possessing formidable combat strength—that was the general description of this race.

By ’numerous,’ it meant their numbers were roughly equivalent to the human population in the post-apocalyptic era.

’Formidable combat strength’ meant that each bull demon possessed power equivalent to a professionist of the same level, with the most outstanding among them comparable to the Human Race Sequence.

This single type of Demon Fiend alone was enough to contend with the Human Race.

”Prepare to fight.”

Hearing Wen Yu’s tone and seeing the Demon Fiends that had already swarmed most of the battle zone, the few members of the small team knew the real battle was about to begin.

As the professionists at the vanguard swiftly collapsed, an overwhelming tide of Demon Fiends surged towards the rear of the battle zone.

The professionists who had managed to escape with their lives were also in the rear of the battle zone, on high alert.

The first to attack was Monkey with his remodeled Gatling.

The electric motor spun for less than a second before a devastating storm of metal tore fiercely into the Demon Group.

Most of them, Level 1 Soot Skin Demon Fiends, couldn’t withstand the bullet impacts and were instantly shredded into a bloody mist.

As Monkey’s Gatling methodically swept back and forth, large swathes of Demon Fiends were instantly obliterated.

This was the power of Hot Weapons on the battlefield.

However, this wasn’t merely a contest between melee weapons and Hot Weapons; it was a war between professionists and Demon Fiends.

Following a deep roar, all the Demon Fiends’ eyes turned crimson, as if they’d been injected with adrenaline. The Soot Skin Demon Fiends’ originally scrawny bodies swelled as if inflated, their muscles bulging.

Fury war roar (A-Class, Active Ability): Emits a deep sonic wave that affects nearby allies, greatly enhancing their combat power for ten minutes. After the effect ends, their stamina will be severely depleted.

As the sonic wave pulsed outward, a bull demon nearly 4 meters tall climbed onto the city wall.

”Burly Bear, that Third-level one is yours! Monkey, conserve your bullets,” Wen Yu said simply.

The Gatling’s firepower was indeed immense, but its rate of bullet consumption was far too high. Even if Monkey’s space ring was filled with 9mm bullets, it wouldn’t last more than a few minutes.

And this battle was definitely not going to end anytime soon.

As Monkey put away the Gatling and switched to two large submachine guns, the existing suppressive fire was immediately broken.

An overwhelming wave of Demon Fiends lunged at the professionists.

Cyclops, at the forefront, bit off the head of the first Soot Skin Demon Fiend that charged him. Then, his claws, wreathed in terrifying black flames, swung out. The flames on his claws lashed out like whips.

This attack had a considerable range and devastating power. The moment the writhing black flames touched a Demon Fiend, the creature would erupt into a burning pillar, reduced to ashes in less than three seconds.

The moment Cyclops engaged the Demon Fiends, it signaled that everyone, including Wen Yu, was now directly confronting their threat.

Watching the scrawny Soot Skin Demon Fiends rapidly charge forward, Wen Yu’s hands became a blur of motion.

The Touch of Greed, moving like an extension of his own body, instantly tore apart several Soot Skin Demon Fiends in front of him, but the newly created gap was immediately filled by more Demon Fiends from behind.

These Level 1 small fry posed no threat to Wen Yu, but they were a significant danger to weaker Level 2 professionists.

Their sharp fangs were enough to tear through the E-Class protective suits worn by Level 2 professionists.

The cannon fodder tactic proved its worth at this moment.

If the Level 2 professionists, cornered by the Demon Fiends, slowed their movements even slightly, they would be met by the Soot Skins’ sharp fangs.

Then, a Soot Skin would bite down and cling on, hanging directly onto the professionist’s body. This simple delay slowed the professionist further, allowing more Soot Skins to latch on... It was a deadly cycle. In such an onslaught, professionists fighting alone had no room to resist. Being bitten once meant death.

When the Soot Skins attached to a professionist finally dispersed, only fragments of hair and bone would remain.

At this moment, casualties among the Level 2 professionists began to skyrocket.
