Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 126: Chapter 83: Invitation from the Military_1

Once Wen Yu had converted all his potential into strength, this transformation in his strength was considered complete.

He didn’t need to pay attention to the astonished gazes of others.

Even Wen Yu himself was shocked by his strength improvement!

After being Strengthened, Wen Yu’s own strength had reached the Mid-Third Stage. Combining it with his horrifying skills, he was second to none among other creatures at the Third-level.

As for Cyclops, with its current strength, once the trial ended, it could definitely return directly to M City to cause trouble for Simba.

The premise was that the current trial had to end successfully!

Wen Yu always had some bad premonitions, stemming from the pace of his own strength improvement!

Too fast, too strong, and, above all, too easy!

Under the shocked and envious gazes of everyone, Wen Yu, accompanied by Cyclops, nonchalantly walked back among Jiang Wentao and the others.

”You’ve reached Third-level? And I saw you use several skill scrolls just now, and also...”

Jiang Wentao pouted, indicating the Touch of Greed in Wen Yu’s hand.

”Yes, my strength has increased significantly. Speaking of which, you guys really lucked out teaming up with me!” Wen Yu said half-jokingly.

Jiang Wentao wasn’t bothered; after all, to some extent, what Wen Yu said was true.

However, what needed to be said still had to be said.

”Don’t say that. From your demeanor, it’s clear you have some knowledge about the Demon Tribe. Although we in the military have obtained information about the Demon Tribe through various channels, we can only make rough inferences about what they actually are, what they look like, how strong they are, and their numbers.”

”But you’re different!”

”If you didn’t have a relatively clear understanding of the Demon Tribe, you absolutely wouldn’t have teamed up with us.”

Jiang Wentao paused, looking intently at Wen Yu.

”Now, we’re all in the same boat. I hope you can tell me the truth: this time, do we have any chance of success?”

Wen Yu shook his head without hesitation.

”According to my estimate, this battle may be extremely arduous! Moreover, I’m worried that this isn’t the final stage of the trial.”

Jiang Wentao immediately fell silent.

Wen Yu handed a cigarette each to Jiang Wentao and the other two, then silently began to puff out clouds of smoke.

Jiang Wentao blew out a large smoke ring, then turned his head to look seriously at Wen Yu.

”Actually, I think you’re quite a decent person. You don’t have any factional backing or personal attachments, so why not join the military? With your strength, you’ll definitely shine. If you become even stronger, you might even earn the military’s title of the second War God!”

”War God?” Wen Yu was slightly surprised.

”Yes, it’s the title we in the military give to the strongest among us. Compared to the super warriors cultivated by our super warrior program, the current Lord God of War’s strength is indeed on a completely overwhelming level.”

Jiang Wentao paused briefly, then said with a wry smile, ”Actually, your current strength probably isn’t much different from the Lord God of War’s!”

Wen Yu felt a stir of interest and asked directly, ”What would I need to give in return?”

There’s never love without reason, nor hate without cause!

”As a soldier, naturally, you must obey the arrangements of your superiors,” Jiang Wentao said very seriously.

”That won’t do,” Wen Yu’s tone immediately carried a hint of displeasure. ”What you’re proposing is essentially giving me an empty title in exchange for me risking my life. Do you take me for a fool?”

Jiang Wentao quickly smiled. ”Don’t think that the so-called super warrior and War God are merely empty titles. In the military, with greater ability comes greater responsibility, and naturally, greater rewards. To be honest, I admire you more than the Lord God of War. He consumed an unknown amount of the military’s resources to reach his current position. You, relying solely on yourself, have become this strong. If you had the resources and Weapons provided by the military, you could definitely become the foremost individual in the entire military, perhaps even the entire country, or even the number one Human in the whole world. I’m not joking. In fact, the military already has such plans; they just haven’t finalized the candidate yet!”

Wen Yu contemplated for a long time, carefully weighing the pros and cons, before finally shaking his head.

”No matter how strong I become, in the end, I’d still be subject to others. That’s unacceptable.”

”Alright, let’s drop it then.”

Jiang Wentao’s response, however, surprised Wen Yu.

”Hey.”

Wen Yu nudged Jiang Wentao. ”You’re giving up that easily? Are you planning to go back to the military, leak my information, and then have them send people to assassinate me?”

”Why would we assassinate you?” Jiang Wentao first asked in confusion. After a moment, understanding Wen Yu’s worries, he chuckled and shook his head. ”You people really underestimate the military’s magnanimity!”

Wen Yu pressed, ”From the military’s perspective, shouldn’t someone like me be seen as a threat? Powerful, unrestrained, perhaps even with a malicious mindset, potentially anti-Human and anti-social—a complete destabilizing element. Would the military and the government allow such a person to exist in this world?”

Wen Yu was somewhat confused by Jiang Wentao’s words.

After all, in the eyes of many, the military is the ruling class—lofty, immensely powerful, and naturally inclined to Control everything.

”That’s why I say, you people completely fail to understand the thinking of those at the top,” Jiang Wentao began with a lighthearted jab. ”No offense, but if you were in politics during peacetime, you’d remain at the grassroots level your entire life.” He then started to explain the military’s current way of thinking.

”First, you need to understand one thing: regardless of the era, be it peacetime or the apocalypse, only one thing can influence the decisions of the top leadership—interests!”

”Take yourself, for example. What do you think the higher-ups would gain by killing you?”

Wen Yu thought for a moment before saying uncertainly, ”Eliminate a destabilizing factor?”

”Alright, let’s say that’s what the military would gain. Then, how many powerful experts’ lives would they need to sacrifice to achieve it?”

”For someone of my level, about ten of their lives would probably do it!” Wen Yu stated with certainty.

”Then, if the military doesn’t provoke you, would you proactively make an enemy of them?”

Wen Yu immediately shook his head. Never mind the military’s vast numbers of professionists; as long as I can’t withstand a nuclear bombardment, I would never proactively provoke the military!

”So, you see? The problem is easily solved, isn’t it? You go your way, we go ours, and we don’t interfere with each other. How great is that?”

”Moreover, there are many instances where cooperation is possible. For example, if the military needs to complete a mission but lacks manpower, they could hire Independents like you to do it, offering generous rewards. Would you refuse?”
