The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 242: Chapter 126: Mother Who Favors Sons Over Daughters (13)

Ten years later.

”Daniu, how did it go with that guy you were seeing last time?”

He Tiantian pretended to be clueless and asked with concern, referring to Zhao Daniu, who had transformed into a powerful urban woman over the years.

”Mom, we weren’t suitable for each other, and we’ve already broken up!”

Zhao Daniu said indifferently, showing no regret when mentioning her ex-boyfriend.

”Why weren’t you suitable? Didn’t you meet him on a plane? I heard he’s from the Provincial City and both his parents are employed—”

He Tiantian asked eagerly.

As she spoke, He Tiantian seemed to think of something, her voice hesitant, ”Daniu, did they look down on our family’s poor conditions?”

”It’s true, our family circumstances are indeed tough, with the old, the young, and the disabled all relying on you alone to support the household!”

”Marrying you means marrying our whole family, no wonder the young man was scared off!”

Upon reaching this point, He Tiantian showed a resolute expression, ”Daniu, you... you should stop taking care of us. You’re already twenty-five and have been supporting this family for ten years. We shouldn’t burden you anymore!”

When Zhao Daniu heard this, she couldn’t help but smile wryly, ”Mom, please don’t start this!”

Not to mention that their family situation wasn’t as difficult as her mother had described, even if it were true, Zhao Daniu wouldn’t just abandon her real mother and siblings to go marry someone else.

That man criticized her for being a Helping-Brother Demon, and his parents were nitpicky from head to toe, completely disregarding how exceptional her looks and abilities were.

As soon as they learned she had a sister in high school and a brother with intellectual disabilities, they immediately treated her like a disaster.

The parents, with their superior attitude, said coldly, ”If you can settle down and live with our Baobao without meddling in your family’s problems, we’ll agree to this marriage.”

”We’re looking to marry a daughter-in-law, not support a charity. Surely we can’t provide for a whole family just because of you.”

Even the man himself looked torn, as if he was reluctant to leave her yet unable to disregard his parents.

Zhao Daniu found it amusing—who was the one who fell in love with her at first sight and chased her by all means?

Although Zhao Daniu considered this man average in every aspect, he seemed honest, which led her to try dating him.

However, in less than three months, he began to control her finances with the attitude of the ”male lead,” using his parents as an excuse to force her to cut ties with her mother and siblings.

What an enormous face he had!

Who did he think he was?

Obsessed with counting every penny, his calculative nature was written all over his face, yet he had the nerve to expect her to selflessly contribute to his ”family.”

She bought a house, insurance, and funds for her brother. What about it?

It wasn’t his money she was spending, and her own lifestyle hadn’t been affected. What right did he have to criticize her?

Of course, her brother was mentally challenged and seen as a burden by others; the man’s disdain was somewhat understandable.

But her mother and sister?

He couldn’t even tolerate them, licking his face asking her to honor a pair of ”parents” who had no blood relation or nurturing ties with her, all the while demanding that she stop being involved with her maternal family!

He considered handing money to his parents as filial piety, but when she cared for her family, she was a Helping-Brother Demon, a betrayer?

Zhao Daniu had no interest in arguing with such a person. When the man proposed breaking up, she didn’t hesitate, saying straightforwardly, ”Alright, let’s break up then.”

The man was dumbfounded, but Zhao Daniu turned around and left swiftly, barely sparing him a glance.

”I could never neglect my family!”

Zhao Daniu said earnestly, ”When you brought me back from Shenzhen years ago, you found ways to teach me a skill. I earned money, and when you refused to take the salary I offered, you insisted I attend night school and further my education, while you’d rather pick through trash and sweep streets to support us...”

My real mother had given so much, so much to this family.

On the surface, it seemed she began working and earning money from the age of fifteen, but in the first few years, her wages were spent on educating and improving herself.

The expenses at home, my sister’s school fees, my brother’s medical bills were all earned by my real mother picking trash and working painstakingly as a housekeeper.

My real mother was only in her forties, yet due to constant hard work, she looked as old as someone in their fifties or sixties.

Zhao Daniu could never forget the early days when they had just settled in the Provincial City, how difficult life was then.

My mother, carrying my younger brother on her back, braving the scorching sun and biting cold, would pick up trash and sweep streets outside.
