The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 221: Chapter 119: The Mother Who Favors Sons Over Daughters (Part 6)

”Mama, is this the Southern city?”

After clattering on the green-skin train for two days and two nights, the mother and daughter finally arrived at their destination.

All along the journey, sitting at every station and swaying back and forth, seven-year-old Zhao Xiaoya was truly exhausted and sleepy.

Her legs felt wobbly as she walked.

But as soon as they left the train station and entered a brand-new world of beauty they’d never seen before, Zhao Xiaoya’s fatigue and drowsiness vanished.

She stared with eyes wide open, unable to take in all the streams of cars and the towering buildings around her.

My God, this is the Southern city.

So clean, so beautiful, so many people, so many cars.

And those buildings, so tall.

Zhao Xiaoya craned her neck as hard as she could; she felt it might break, yet still could not see the peak of the buildings.

”Yes, this is Shenzhen!”

After enduring a two-day and two-night train ride, He Tiantian with her strong spirit was also somewhat overwhelmed.

Because she had to endure not only the arduous journey but also keep one eye always open, watching her child.

Besides, she did not let go of the opportunity to keep an eye out for hidden traffickers, swindlers, and petty thieves in the train carriages.

He Tiantian, without drawing attention, once sure someone was a criminal, would secretly run to the train police to report them.

Of course, to soothe or extract useful information from them, He Tiantian would also sometimes feign friendliness.

As an immediate result, He Tiantian’s ”Gambling Skill of Ma Jiu” had multiple opportunities to show its power.

And her pocket was a few hundred yuan heavier.

”... The costs for food and housing in Shenzhen are settled for now!”

He Tiantian thought to herself and searched more diligently for her target.

Her efficiency was high; in just two or three days, she had nearly cleared out the traffickers, swindlers, and thieves from several train carriages.

The train police felt it was like a dream: ”Did all these bastards decide to gang up? How did we catch so many on a single trip?”

Every time He Tiantian went to report, she would slightly change her appearance. Additionally, she would hint at other people to contact the police, so even though she was responsible for catching a dozen people, the police did not notice any anomalies.

He Tiantian, clutching her bulging purse, did not scramble for any fame but, keeping her contributions hidden, blended in with the crowd of people getting off the train with her child.

Arriving in the bustling Shenzhen, Zhao Xiaoya was completely dazzled.

Her small, simple world had been greatly impacted.

Surrounded by people wearing various fashionable and stylish clothes, speaking words she couldn’t understand at all... What impressed Zhao Xiaoya the most was the confidence and pride that beamed on their faces.

They lived in prosperity, they were hopeful and had prospects, they were passionate, they sought their dreams.

Passion overwhelming, confidence soaring!

Zhao Xiaoya had never been to school, so she couldn’t find the right words to describe her feelings.

All her emotions were summed up in one sentence: ”Mama, this place is wonderful!”

The tales of the Heaven Palace told by the old lady at the village head probably resembled this world before her eyes.

A layer of stirring light appeared on Zhao Xiaoya’s dark and skinny face, as a huge door slowly opened before her.

Her black and bright eyes became even more luminous.

”No matter how nice it is, it isn’t our home!”

He Tiantian said impatiently, ”Alright, let’s quickly find a place to settle down and get some information about your sister’s whereabouts.”

”Right, we also need to find a way to send a message home, to tell your dad that we have successfully arrived in Shenzhen!”

He Tiantian, holding Zhao Xiaoya’s arm, desperately squeezed through the crowd, bypassing the drivers and innkeepers soliciting at the station entrance, and ran several streets until the unsettling noise had subsided.

”Mama, we can call home!”

Having come out on this trip, Zhao Xiaoya had indeed made much progress and even knew about making phone calls.

That’s understandable; with the constant movement of people on the train and the fact that this era already had mobile phones, though they were quite large with tiny screens, either flip or bar-shaped.

Following her real mother through various carriages, Zhao Xiaoya must have seen people making calls or showing off their alphanumeric pagers.

Many new and curious sights poured into her little head.

And during the chatter of travelers, Zhao Xiaoya also learned some principles.

For instance, when traveling far and reaching your destination, you should contact home to reassure them.

In the past, it was by telegram; now, well, it’s by phone call.
