The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 217: Chapter 117: The Mother Who Favors Sons Over Daughters (Part 4)_3

Zhao Xiaoya blinked her big eyes; she had lived in that mountainous area since she was little and had never even been to the County.

Her perspective had been limited to a small corner of the world, and even though she was the female lead, even though she was extraordinarily intelligent, she still only partially understood He Tiantian’s words.

But it didn’t matter that she didn’t fully understand. Zhao Xiaoya looked at her real mother, still seeing that stern face, yet she suddenly felt something—

her real mother seemed incredibly dependable!

And her mother hadn’t been as indifferent towards her and her sister as she usually seemed.

Here her mother was, regretting having sold her sister, rushing to fetch her.

She even abandoned the ”son” she always doted on.

On the contrary, their seemingly kind father who never hit nor scolded them was, however—

Zhao Xiaoya pursed her lips, the novelty and excitement of just arriving at the County gradually dissipated.

Her young heart, because it stumbled upon some ”truths,” was cast over with a shadow.

He Tiantian quickly ate a few sesame cakes and then ran to the ticket counter to inquire.

The original He Xiaotian did not know where Aunt Hua had taken Zhao Dan, only that it was somewhere in the Southern part.

But in the eyes of a northerner, anything south of their home was considered the Southern part.

That area was just too broad.

They would still have to wait several months until the owner of the hair salon sent money to the Zhao Family, when Zhao Baozhu and He Xiaotian could finally find out roughly where their daughter had ended up.

But He Tiantian, familiar with the plot, knew very well that Aunt Hua had taken four or five young girls including Zhao Dan to Shenzhen, a newly rising megacity.

”...Has the train to Shenzhen already left? What about the next one? When does the next one leave?”

He Tiantian struggled to communicate with the ticket vendor in her rustic hometown dialect.

”At 9:25 PM there’s a train that stops there, it goes to Shenzhen.” The ticket hall was too noisy, the vendor shouted.

”Night, huh? That late? There are still many hours to wait, how can I, I manage with a child?”

He Tiantian intentionally acted clueless, exactly like a village woman who had never traveled far but had to now.

The ticket vendor impatiently at the window, ”This is the latest train available, are you riding it or not? If not buying, please clear the window!”

He Tiantian timidly accompanied by a smile, ”I’ll buy, I’ll buy! How, how much is it?”

”Sixty or seventy yuan five, half price for children!”

The ticket vendor did not overlook the child beside He Tiantian, shouting as he pulled his voice.

”Ah? That expensive? Seventy yuan for a single ticket?” He Tiantian’s face winced with the pain of expenditure, she carefully negotiated with the ticket vendor: ”Comrade, look at my daughter, she’s thin and small, can I just hold her on the train without taking a seat!”

”Seat? Ha, a stopping train, and you still want a seat? The ticket you’re buying is a standing ticket!”

The ticket vendor remarked irritably.

Looking at He Tiantian with disdain: Really a bumpkin who’s never seen the world!

”What? Standing ticket? And it still costs that much?” He Tiantian seemed agitated, suddenly forgetting her timidity, she yelled out loud.

Her shouting attracted the sidelong glances of many people.

Most were just curious, but among the crowd, some eyes twinkled with shrewdness.

A woman traveling for the first time, and with a child?!

A perfect mark.

Getting robbed would be considered lucky; if traffickers got her, it would only take moments to whisk her away!

”That’s right, it’s a standing ticket! Are you buying it or not!” The ticket vendor really had no patience left, watching He Tiantian coldly.

He Tiantian as if stung by that gaze, her body visibly shrinking.

”...I’ll buy!” She clenched her jaws, bearing the financial pain, shakily pulling out a yellow-stained checkerboard handkerchief from her trouser pocket.

She unfolded the handkerchief layer by layer, revealing a roll of currency inside.

Tens, fives, and some miscellaneous ones and tenths of yuan notes.

He Tiantian spat on her fingertips, counting the bills one by one.

”...” The ticket vendor couldn’t be bothered to shout anymore, instead, he just sat there watching.

”Hurry up!”

The ticket vendor was not in a hurry, but those lined up behind He Tiantian started to clamor.

He Tiantian grew even more flustered, almost tossing out the handkerchief in her hands.

After a long while, having counted enough money, she bought two tickets, and with a face full of cautious relief, squeezed her way out.

Just as she left the window, He Tiantian was about to pull Zhao Xiaoya to look for the waiting hall, when an enthusiastic middle-aged woman stopped her...
