The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 237: Chapter 124: Mom Preferring Sons to Daughters (Part 11)_2

The salary was six hundred yuan per month, with room and board included, plus overtime pay and bonuses.

Zhao Dan’s small face was flushed with excitement, knowing she could make it.

But she still needed to genuinely earn others’ approval and successfully find a proper job.

Only then would she be considered ”truly capable,” and not just deluding herself.

As the guardian, He Tiantian processed Zhao Dan’s employment paperwork and helped her settle into the dormitory.

Seeing that Zhao Dan had started working smoothly, He Tiantian rented a house nearby and paid a hefty tuition fee so Zhao Xiaoya could attend elementary school.

Zhao Xiaoya was thrilled, clutching her new school bag and repeatedly asking her real mother, ”Mom, can I really go to school now? And even at an elementary school in the Provincial City?”

My goodness, this was just unbelievable.

Although Zhao Xiaoya knew her real mother loved and cherished her, she now had a younger brother.

And her brother’s situation was special; they needed to start saving for his future expenses, such as getting married and buying a house.

Zhao Xiaoya had already made up her mind to be like her older sister, do chores at home, watch her brother, and go out to work at the age of fifteen or sixteen to earn money.

However, Zhao Xiaoya could never have imagined that her real mother would send her to school, especially to such a place as the Provincial City, and spend thousands of yuan on tuition fees.

Thousands of yuan—that was enough to cover her schooling all the way to middle school back in her hometown.

”Right, going to school is the only way to get ahead, and getting ahead is the only way to make good money!”

He Tiantian said calculatingly, ”You’ve also said you will take good care of me in the future and look after your brother!”

”If you stay in the countryside, illiterate, how much could you earn?”

”You might even do worse than your sister. At least she can sew and earns a few hundred yuan in the factory!”

”What skills do you have? You can’t just grow up and learn to sew too. It’s better to get an education. Just look at those executives from Hong Kong—tsk, tsk—it’s because they went to college and can speak a foreign language. Their salaries are calculated in annual terms!”

”So, you must go to school and study hard, become like those executives, go to college, learn foreign languages, and after graduating, join those big companies run by foreigners and earn big money!”

Money was all that He Tiantian talked about, and she blatantly made her calculations for her own daughter very clear.

She directly told Zhao Xiaoya that she was sending her to school not for anything else but to enable her to make money—a lot of it.

And once you make money, you must support your family.

Respecting the elderly and supporting your brother are your duties!

Her words seemed devoid of any warmth, but Zhao Xiaoya was deeply moved.

She understood that no matter the reason her real mother wanted her to study, the fact that she could study and have the opportunity to learn skills was a privilege.

As for repaying her real mother and contributing to the family in the future, wasn’t that expected?

Her parents had raised her, and it was only natural for her to respect and care for them.

Even if her real mother hadn’t let her study, she would still need to earn money to support the family and care for her brother in the future.

But her real mother had spent a lot of money for her to study in the Provincial City, an enormous kindness, and she, she must repay it doubly.

Zhao Xiaoya was filled with gratitude and repeatedly vowed: when I grow up, I will definitely repay my mother!

Having registered early but before the school term began, He Tiantian took Zhao Xiaoya back to their old home.

Before leaving, she specifically changed into the same worn clothes she had worn when she left; Zhao Xiaoya looked just as shabby.

With tickets bought, He Tiantian only carried a few yuan.

Though she held a chubby baby in her arms, she and her daughter looked like refugees fleeing famine.

They were slightly better off than the homeless beggars on the streets, who were mostly disabled, lacking arms or legs, but at least they were physically intact.

Even so, when He Tiantian, carrying Zhao Xiaobao in one arm and pulling Zhao Xiaoya with the other, wearily returned to Zhaojiawa, the villagers looking at them showed sympathy and pity.

”Oh my, Zhao Baozhu’s family—what happened to you? You look like a beggar!”

”Yes, yes, and what’s with the child in your arms? Where did you get a child from?”

”... Dan’s mother, why have you only just come back? Your Baozhu, oh, you better go home and see for yourself!”

”Eh? Where’s Dan? Didn’t you go looking for her? Did you find your child?”

”Daniu’s mom, you must hang in there, don’t cause trouble. That young widow is not easy to deal with—your husband is taking their side.”
