The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 212: Chapter 116: The Mother Who Favors Sons Over Daughters (Part 3)

”Daniu’s mom, what... what are you saying?”

Zhao Baozhu jerked his head up, his swollen eyes staring intently at He Tiantian.

”Child’s dad, I said I’ll listen to you, I won’t let our Daniu go to work in the South anymore!”

He Tiantian sneered inwardly; she knew Zhao Baozhu was a selfish and hypocritical weasel.

See that? She hadn’t even said anything yet, and Zhao Baozhu’s façade of a ”loving father” was already starting to crack.

”You, you—”

Zhao Baozhu looked at his wife in disbelief, the scolding that had rushed to his lips was swallowed back down.

He was on the verge of blurting out: ”If you bring Daniu back, what about that two thousand yuan? How would we ’adopt’ a son?”

But... those words, Zhao Baozhu couldn’t say.

Because all this time, he had been acting like a normal person.

The one obsessed with having a son at home was never him, but rather He Xiaotian, this infertile hen.

Normally, when he heard the busybodies in the village poking fun at He Xiaotian for being useless, Zhao Baozhu would still step forward to speak a good word for her.

So, despite the villagers mocking Zhao Baozhu for being a weakling, their opinion of him wasn’t all that terrible.

Especially in many women’s eyes, no matter how bad Zhao Baozhu seemed, he was viewed as a kind husband who doted on his wife and took care of his daughter.

Only, Zhao Baozhu was too weak, failing even to control a woman.

He let He Xiaotian treat their two biological daughters like animals, and now, to ”adopt” a son, he didn’t hesitate to hand over their fifteen- to sixteen-year-old daughter, as beautiful as a flower, to the infamous Aunt Hua.

Tsk tsk, poor Zhao Baozhu, unable to protect his own daughter—what could he do, since he married a tiger of a wife who couldn’t bear offspring?

”Well then, don’t adopt. Child’s dad, you’re right; you’re still young, and I’m not old, we can take good care of ourselves; surely we can have our own biological son!”

He Tiantian played the role of the dutiful wife who saw her husband as heaven, finishing every sentence with ”you’re right, I’ll listen to you.”

A vein throbbed on Zhao Baozhu’s forehead; he, he had only said those words for the sake of appearances.

The hospital had checked a long time ago; his wife had damaged her body when she gave birth to their daughter, and it would be very hard to get pregnant again.

And he himself had secretly gone to see a doctor, who said he had a little problem with low sperm count, which was somewhat manageable when younger, but as he aged, and with smoking, drinking, and staying up late playing cards, the condition had worsened.

If it weren’t for his own inability to have children, would he allow his wife to adopt another family’s son?

Getting rid of this plain-Jane wife and remarrying to have his own flesh and blood would be so much better!

”...” But these words, Zhao Baozhu dared only to keep bottled up inside.

All he could do was to put on a show of sighing and lamenting at home, saying how he envied others with sons.

He schemed every way he could to goad He Xiaotian into leading the charge.

The bad reputation for favoring boys over girls, selling off daughters for a son, all fell on the cruel real mother, He Xiaotian.

He, Zhao Baozhu, was just a pitiful man who couldn’t control his wife.

And now, ”He Xiaotian” had seemingly had a change of heart, no longer charging at the forefront yelling and fighting, but smoothly slipping behind Zhao Baozhu.

Zhao Baozhu:...

”You, you—”

Zhao Baozhu glared, saying ”you” for the longest time, then quickly came up with something and blurted out: ”You already paid the deposit; to say no now, would Brother Fan agree?”

Brother Fan, the ”able person” from the neighboring village.

Not only could he ”adopt” children for the villagers, but he could also hook up those poor, lazy, old, and ugly bachelors with wives.

Tsk tsk, his skills were considerable.

The Fan Family was also a well-known wealthy household in the area, one of the few with a two-story building, owned by them.

”Why not agree? Hmph, if he doesn’t agree, I’ll go report him to the Public Security. Does he really think I don’t know what kind of person he is?”

When He Tiantian mentioned Brother Fan, she finally revealed her shrewish nature.

The original appearance of this body wasn’t actually bad.

That makes sense, given she could bear a female lead as beautiful as her daughter, the original body couldn’t be too ugly.

But life hadn’t been kind, and she was always sullen.

Moreover, her obsession with having a son ran too deep, treating her two biological daughters very harshly.

As they say, a person’s nature is reflected in their appearance; being too harsh and extreme affected her looks.

Now He Xiaotian, although only about thirty-four or thirty-five, looked old beyond her years.

Her cheeks were sunken, cheekbones protruded, exacerbating her sharp and mean appearance.

Her temper was also genuinely unpleasant.
