Chapter 815: Chapter 46: Extreme and a Group of Lunatics

Liu Li floated in mid-air, staring blankly at Besnie lying in a pool of blood.

”You...”

Liu Li gritted her teeth, lowering her head.

”You’re truly a cold and heartless bastard.”

Liu Li lifted her head, the sadness on her face vanished.

As Liu Li lifted her head, Besnie’s body turned into specks of light and disappeared, while the bloodstain on the ground confirmed Besnie’s ’death’.

”Cats do have nine lives, you bastard.”

Liu Li rushed in front of Su Xiao, throwing a punch at him, but Su Xiao didn’t dodge or flinch, not even feeling a gust of wind.

Liu Li’s fair little hand passed through Su Xiao’s head, causing him no harm.

”Just as my sister predicted, you wouldn’t spare Besnie.”

”Sister?”

Su Xiao’s eyes lit up.

”So that’s how it is.”

”What do you mean?”

Instinctively, Liu Li backed away from Su Xiao.

Although he was surprised by the disappearance of the cat’s body, Su Xiao quickly accepted it.

”Your sister must be that woman named Xi. I had my suspicions when I first saw you; your hair color and looks are very similar to hers.”

Su Xiao didn’t show the anger or disappointment Liu Li expected but instead began to calmly analyze.

He assumed the cat’s owner was Xi. Considering the cat had nine lives, why would it fear death? Or rather, why did it resist death so much?

Thoughts raced in Su Xiao’s mind. The more you use your brain, the more agile it becomes. Mindlessly hacking wouldn’t get you far in Reincarnation Paradise.

Su Xiao continued to analyze and speculate based on the existing information.

It’s less that the cat feared death, but rather that death was a luxury for it. Even as Liu Li claimed, it had nine lives.

Ordinarily, a creature with nine lives wouldn’t show despair in desperation. Yet, the cat did earlier, indicating it highly valued its ’lives’, or perhaps its nine lives served another purpose, like sharing them with Xi? Granting Xi a resurrection-like ability?

”Nine lives? It has already died once, plus Xi’s original death chance, meaning Xi can still die nine more times. Your sister’s ability is hard to deal with.”

Su Xiao looked at Liu Li, who maintained an unchanged expression, but was internally panicked. A powerful close combatant wasn’t too scary, but when they were strong and possessed above-average intelligence and insight, it became terrifying.

Su Xiao was aware of his intelligence level; he was only slightly smarter than the average person. However, his extended combat experience had given him strong insight and logical analysis abilities.

Logical analysis ability doesn’t equate to intelligence; some people’s logical reasoning is very strong.

”So, Xi at most has nine lives left. She originally had one, meaning after dying she can resurrect eight times? Killing her the ninth time would be final.”

Gaining this information from the cat, Su Xiao was already satisfied. He never considered extorting any good from the enemy through the cat. If he hypothetically extorted equipment, it would involve negotiating locations, potential enemy ambushes, and other dangers that would outweigh the benefits multiple times over.

”An enemy who can die eight times is tough to deal with. Judging from your reaction, all my talking should be correct. Sometimes, silence means agreement.”

Su Xiao stood up and walked toward Liu Li.

”...”

Liu Li had nothing left to say. The enemy had managed to gather such critical information through coincidences and her subtle reactions.

”You’re useless now, ’Nightmare’ Witch... crazy person.”

Su Xiao looked up at Liu Li.

”Huh~”

Liu Li froze, not understanding what he meant by that.

Blue smoke rose from Su Xiao’s left hand, instantly enveloping Liu Li.

Boom!

A muffled thunder echoed in Liu Li’s mind, her vision turned a bright blue, as if she was immersed in a vast blue energy ocean.

”So comfortable, I want to stay here forever.”

Liu Li’s eyes began to dim, a dull smile appeared on her face.

Slap!

Liu Li suddenly felt a burning pain on her face.

Slap!

Liu Li’s body twitched as her consciousness unexpectedly returned. Instinctively, she sat up, bracing her hands on her knees, panting heavily.

At a fortress of the Tribal Army, inside the temporary stronghold of the Apocalypse Paradise contractors.

”The others shouldn’t have seen that, right?”

Shell’s lips seemed to twitch.

”Probably... not.”

A man in heavy armor gave an awkward smile.

”So embarrassing, just what was that girl doing earlier? That blissful smile of a nympho is etched into my mind.”

A female gunman in camouflage shook her head.

Liu Li looked around at everyone in confusion; these were all acquaintances, subordinates close to her sister.

”Why are you all looking at me like that? And what happened to me just now?”

Liu Li felt something was off, as if she’d done something embarrassing.

”What happened? You looked like you were having a ’blissful’ time with dozens of big men, even drooling.”

The female gunman in camouflage laughed, visibly relieved upon finding Liu Li was okay.

”Wha... What!?”

Liu Li tried hard to recall the previous scene, but her memory was fragmented. She remembered bits, just very trivial parts, typical of when one’s spirit has received a huge shock.

”What exactly did you do with the enemy? Weren’t you in a controlled phantom state earlier?”

The female gunman in camouflage opened Liu Li’s eyelids, checking her mental state and if the enemy had control.

”I just...”

Liu Li struggled to recall, and suddenly, a man with a cigarette in his mouth, clad in a black windbreaker, with blue smoke rising from his left arm, appeared in her memory.

”I... lost miserably, was used, and also made my sister lose a chance at rebirth. Important intel was taken by the enemy...”

Liu Li clenched her teeth tightly. She once thought the enemy couldn’t do anything to her, but now it seemed it was all a trap. A certain ability of the enemy could easily deal with her; they just pretended to be helplessly harassed.

”I’m really stupid and detestable, why is everyone smarter than me.”

After figuring out the cause and effect, Liu Li was left with only humiliation in her heart.

”You’ve done very well; I had already considered this outcome. Although Besnie being captured surprised me, the general situation is progressing as I planned.”

Shell stroked a small kitten in her arms, which was Besnie reborn.

”Liu Li, it’s not that you’re too weak, it’s that the enemy is too powerful and cunning. When I met that guy, I sensed it was a killer of thousands, if not tens of thousands. As expected, contractors of Reincarnation Paradise are madmen. Don’t worry, everything we have done so far has value; we haven’t just been toyed with.”

Besnie comforted.

”But...”

Liu Li seemed downcast, a look she hadn’t even shown in the face of death.

”No buts, that ’Close Combat No.1’ doesn’t need attention for now; it’s their ’Mage No.1’ that’s the real problem.”

The ’Close Combat No.1’ mentioned by Shell was Su Xiao. Shell had a habit of labeling enemies according to their traits and threat level; ’Close Combat’ represented Su Xiao’s combat style, and ’No.1’ his threat level.

”Placed at No.1? Is that guy really so strong? I feel that woman in ’Hill Canyon’ is more dangerous. She fights with luck and calls herself the Goddess of Luck, and she has a mysterious teammate who is also close combat. I think that woman is harder to deal with.”

The female gunman in camouflage spoke up.

”That Lucky Girl isn’t the biggest headache. If the chance arises, I’d rather eliminate ’Mage No.1’. I underestimated him before. His fire system might very well counter me.”

Shell’s words took the surrounding people by surprise.

”Let Winters deal with ’Mage No.1’?”

The female gunman in camouflage suggested, indicating her significant standing in Shell’s core team.

”That’s exactly my intention. As for ’Close Combat No.1’, someone will help us deal with him. For that, I’ve paid a lot of High-level Recovery Potions. If that person fails, I’ll handle ’Close Combat No.1’ personally; that would be more reliable.”

Though Shell remained in ’Hill Canyon’, she was well-informed about the three large battle zones and had lots of intel on some strong contractors from Reincarnation Paradise. With her intelligence, she had already mapped out the subsequent actions.

”At least three out of ten of our opponents this time are lunatics. Reincarnation Paradise’s method of raising contractors must be extremely extreme. Although our camp is united, we cannot underestimate them. If those lunatics get desperate, they could do anything, including taking us down with them. If they face a must-lose situation, that’s not impossible.”

Shell’s words sobered the people nearby.

”Would they really go that crazy? Even if they lost the World Struggle War, it’d only mean a 10% deduction in all attributes, that’s not too...”

The female gunman in camouflage hadn’t finished speaking when Shell waved her hand.

”What if, just what if, their mission punishment from Reincarnation Paradise is death?”

”Death? That can’t be, barring special circumstances, I’ve never seen a death penalty.”

”Fortunately, I’m not in that Reincarnation Paradise. What Shell says isn’t impossible; after all, those guys feel way too crazy.”
