Chapter 803: Chapter 34: Formidable Foe

Duke Lan drew two energy guns from the holsters at his waist. These energy guns resembled pistols, but the gun bodies were slightly longer.

The two energy guns were etched with blue light patterns, marking them as anything but ordinary.

Holding the dual guns, Duke Lan aimed not at Su Xiao, but at the ground between them.

”Is it a snake underground? No, it’s some kind of bomb. A good tactic.”

Duke Lan pulled the trigger, and two round energy bullets left the gun barrel. The energy bullets traveled at an extreme speed and expanded in size, reaching the size of basketballs and transforming into plasma balls after being shot a dozen meters away.

Bang, bang.

The two plasma balls hit the ground and exploded, sending dirt flying. The explosion left a hole about three meters in diameter, and blue plasma spread across the surface.

Boom!

Another explosion resounded from underground, with bright flames shooting up, resembling Su Xiao’s special level alchemy bomb.

A rock propelled by the explosion flew past Su Xiao’s ear. He initially intended to use an alchemy bomb to detonate the mechanical bees near Duke Lan, but it seemed futile now given Duke Lan’s strong perception force.

”Not coming closer? Aren’t you a close combat fighter?”

Duke Lan taunted, aiming the energy gun at Su Xiao.

Su Xiao wasn’t about to rush over. It wasn’t the time. At least a hundred unknown summons lay lurking in the earth beneath Duke Lan’s feet, and hundreds of explosive mechanical bees hovered nearby.

If not in close combat, using long-range abilities could put Su Xiao at a disadvantage against Duke Lan, who specialized in long-range combat.

The battle had commenced, and Duke Lan showed no restraint, repeatedly pulling the trigger.

Bang, bang, bang...

Basketball-sized plasma balls flew toward Su Xiao, their speed comparable to standard sniper bullets.

Although fast, the plasma balls were slower than Su Xiao, and he sidestepped them mid-flight.

Seeing Su Xiao’s evasive maneuver, Duke Lan didn’t halt his firing. Instead, he aimed at the sky and continued pulling the trigger.

Bang, bang, bang...

Dozens of plasma balls shot toward the sky, depleting the energy in Duke Lan’s guns.

”Command·Rapid.”

An invisible wave emanated from Duke Lan, enhancing the red glow in the eyes of the mechanical bees it touched.

Bzzzz~

Hundreds of mechanical bees flew towards Su Xiao, their speed multiplied several times over.

A swarm of mechanical bees approached Su Xiao, and worse, the plasma balls previously fired by Duke Lan were now tracking him.

In front of Su Xiao were hundreds of rapidly approaching mechanical bees, on his side were 14 plasma balls, and overhead were 16 more plasma balls in a parabolic trajectory.

Su Xiao took out three special level alchemy bombs and hurled them into the swarm of mechanical bees, detonating them all.

Boom!

The simultaneous explosion of three special level alchemy bombs was formidable, enveloping the mechanical bees in flames and detonating them.

The dense explosions echoed like firecrackers on New Year’s Day. Having dealt with the mechanical bees, Su Xiao now faced the plasma balls approaching from the side and above.

An 80-strength energy shield appeared beside Su Xiao as he intended to test the plasma balls’ power.

Disengaging the energy link with the shield, Su Xiao pushed it towards the incoming plasma balls on the side.

Bam!

The energy shield collided with a plasma ball, which exploded into a mass of plasma engulfing the shield, gradually shattering the 80-strength shield.

Moreover, the plasma wafted in the air, emitting a torrent of electricity.

Su Xiao was surprised to discover that the plasma balls’ attack power wasn’t too strong. Duke Lan had fired 30 in total, and Su Xiao figured he could withstand the remaining 29 with a counter shield.

Despite this, Su Xiao didn’t plan to block the plasma balls recklessly. Their true intent was likely to release powerful electric currents to paralyze the enemy, a tenacious ability with strong control power and tracking capability.

Fortunately, once the plasma balls deviated from their ballistic trajectory, their tracking speed experienced some reduction, enabling Su Xiao to outpace them.

Su Xiao charged straight at Duke Lan, feeling that the underground mechanical summons were inactive, as if in an activation phase.

Duke Lan stood firm with no intention to dodge. Instead, he snapped his fingers.

With a crisp snap, hundreds of mechanical fireflies appeared around Duke Lan.

These fireflies circled around Duke Lan, forming a light web around him. Eventually, hundreds of fireflies were frozen in mid-air, interconnected with beams of light, creating four layers of fluorescent shield around Duke Lan.

”Command·Guard.”

As soon as Duke Lan’s words fell, Su Xiao had already rushed to a few meters in front of him.

The four fluorescent shields formed by the fireflies flickered, becoming thicker and more solid.

Su Xiao raised the long knife in his hand high. He had very little time to attack Duke Lan, as the 29 plasma spheres were closing in behind him.

The long knife tore through the air, and the blue steel shadow energy on the blade was at its peak intensity.

The long knife cleaved onto the fluorescent shield.

Crackle!

Sparks flew high, Dragon Slash directly shattered the first layer of the fluorescent shield and followed through to the second layer.

Bang.

Like a flash bomb detonating, the second layer of the fluorescent shield shattered, leaving Su Xiao’s vision dazzled in white with a burning sensation in his eyes. Yet, his cleave did not stop.

Buzz!

A high-pitched sonic wave struck, the result of the third layer of the fluorescent shield shattering.

Crunch.

The fourth shield was cut through. Despite being unable to see or hear, Su Xiao knew well that the trajectory of Dragon Slash was correct.

Duke Lan’s lips twitched; although he anticipated Su Xiao’s formidable close combat abilities, witnessing them exceeded his expectations.

”Command·Replacement.”

The long knife struck down, severing many small creatures as Su Xiao attacked.

Boom!

The explosion’s shock wave rushed toward Su Xiao, but the counter shield protected him, only causing him to be pushed back.

Su Xiao’s vision gradually returned, the buzzing in his ears faded away. As he regained his senses, he leaped aside.

Whoosh—

More than twenty plasma spheres flew past Su Xiao; their tracking ability was exceptionally annoying, as wherever Su Xiao moved, these plasma spheres would follow.

Regaining his sight, Su Xiao scanned the surroundings, noticing Duke Lan had moved tens of meters away.

The shoulder of Duke Lan’s leather jacket was slashed open, revealing skin with a shallow blood mark; at this moment, Duke Lan’s brow twitched, clearly being eroded by the blue steel shadow ability.

The blue steel shadow ability was indeed ruthless; as long as Su Xiao inflicted damage, even just grazing the skin, the blue steel shadow energy would seize the opportunity to invade the enemy’s body.

Having taken a strike from Su Xiao, Duke Lan’s mana value was devoured by 160 points due to the blue steel shadow energy, while suffering 240 points of true damage, leaving his body somewhat stiff, triggering the soul electrification effect of the blue steel shadow. He previously experienced paralysis for 0.7 seconds.

If Duke Lan had not swapped positions with his mechanical summons the instant he was struck, post restoral of Su Xiao’s vision and hearing, a couple more strikes could have potentially subjected him to further control, eventually leading to being hacked to death, a truly stifling scenario if all his skills went to waste by dying in combat.

”A mere 12% chance, is it indeed bad luck, or does each of the three control effect triggers operate independently after being hit?”

Previously, Duke Lan probed into Su Xiao’s details, hence, he had a general understanding of the blue steel shadow ability; he uncovered Su Xiao’s three skills—Blue Steel Shadow, Sword Technique Master, Absolute Demon Physique, thus aware of Su Xiao’s close combat abilities and survival capabilities.

Around Duke Lan appeared hundreds of mechanical dragonflies. He differed from ordinary summoners, who would summon a few, at most a dozen; Duke Lan, on the contrary, summoned hundreds at a time, with numerous mechanical insect summons hidden underground.

After summoning hundreds of mechanical dragonflies, Duke Lan lifted his leather jacket, revealing a metal belt strapped with a metal arrow.

This metal arrow was entirely black, with a sound sensor at its tail end.

”Whistle—”

Unexpectedly, Duke Lan whistled, and with the sound, the metal arrow broke free from the leather arrow bag, floating alongside him, its sharp tip aimed at Su Xiao.

Duke Lan’s earlier attacks were merely probing, gathering Su Xiao’s movement habits and speed, ultimately transmitting them to this metal arrow via a neural conduction system.

After completing a series of complex preconditions, the speed of this metal arrow was approximately three to five times faster than Su Xiao’s movement speed.

”Whistle—”

The whistle resonated again, and with a swoosh, the metal arrow darted toward Su Xiao.

Duke Lan’s abilities were comprehensive; high stamina endowed him with robust survival capabilities, agile attributes allowed him to handle close combat, unlike ordinary summoners who would be in disarray.

The plasma spheres were responsible for tracking, harassing, ultimately discharging to paralyze the enemy, making it easier for the metal arrow to puncture the enemy’s vital points; mechanical summoned creatures integrated attack, defense, control, short-distance swap position among other abilities.

Among numerous abilities, the metal arrow was Duke Lan’s primary means of attack; being classified under summoned objects, its attack power, penetration power, etc., were significantly enhanced by Duke Lan’s ’Summoning Master’ skill, possessing utterly formidable capabilities, almost ignoring the enemy’s shield-type defenses.
