Chapter 1226: Chapter 1225: Prelude to the Witch’s Night

In the end, Mami Tomoe still woke up.

But the other two magical girls weren’t as lucky.

Or should I say — determination.

Fang Zheng had warned them, but their response was indifferent. It was a calmness far beyond their age, as if they were old souls who had seen it all, ready to pass their final moments peacefully, and they calmly rejected Fang Zheng’s suggestion. They chose to sleep eternally in that dream.

Thus, Fang Zheng could only accompany them on this final journey.

The radiance of the Soul Gems gradually dimmed, and as the radiance on the two girls faded away, the once colorful Soul Gems also turned into two white glass spheres.

”They are gone.”

Looking at the girls before him who had their eyes closed with peaceful smiles, Fang Zheng sighed deeply and muttered softly. Behind him, not far away, the other magical girls were also watching this scene with complex expressions, plunging the room into a silent atmosphere.

Everyone bid farewell to their companions in this manner, mourning in silence.

Though they did not live in the same era as the magical girls and were almost strangers to each other, they were fellow sufferers in the same plight. Even though they could understand their thoughts...

”Who knows, maybe one day we will be just like this...”

Suddenly, one of the magical girls whispered, further thickening the somber mood.

”So, what do we do next, sir?”

Little Sakura anxiously tugged on Fang Zheng’s sleeve, asking softly, while Fang Zheng let out a deep sigh.

”The burial, the funeral, hold a banquet.”

Japan does not have this custom for funerals, but Fang Zheng decided not to use a Japanese-style funeral for the two girls. Regardless of their past, they became magical girls in the end and helped many people break free from the Witch’s curse. One could say they were heroes fighting in the shadows.

Since they are heroes, Fang Zheng certainly wouldn’t let them leave quietly and unnoticed; even if others didn’t know of their heroic deeds, Fang Zheng did, and he wanted them to leave their mark on this world.

The following series of procedures went smoothly, and with Fang Zheng around, there were no problems at the crematorium. He also paid to buy a plot of land for the two girls and buried them after cremation. After that, Fang Zheng didn’t opt for a hotel funeral but instead held a barbecue party near the girls’ graves.

Initially, Nanoha and Little Sakura complained, feeling disrespectful to the deceased. However, to their surprise, the world’s magical girls seemed very fond of Fang Zheng’s idea, happily holding a lively banquet.

”Teacher... Is this really okay?”

Little Sakura watched the magical girls gleefully running around with drinks near the graves, finding it hard to accept.

”Of course, there’s nothing wrong with it.”

Right at that moment, Anzu ran over to grab some skewers, heard Little Sakura’s question, and cheerfully patted her shoulder.

”Don’t keep a mournful face; you should feel happy for them.”

”Happy...?”

Hearing this reply, Nanoha was dumbfounded and at a loss for words, while Anzu naturally nodded in agreement.

”Yeah, they suffered a lot and went through much hardship, eventually twisting into witches due to despair. But now they can finally rest, leaving this world in their most beautiful dreams, and have a crowd celebrating for them afterward. Isn’t that great? Boss, remember to do the same for me when I’m gone!”

Saying this, Anzu merrily raised her cup, almost spilling the juice inside.

Her words almost left the two young girls speechless.

”If you don’t die in battle, we can consider doing that later. Here’s your corn!”

”YEAH! Thank you!”

Taking the corn, Anzu cheerfully sprinted back among the crowd.

But Little Sakura and Nanoha were left staring blankly at the scene, unsure what to say; even Fate looked incredulous.

”Alright, don’t worry about these things.”

Seeing the expressions of the young girls around him, Fang Zheng smiled.

”They are different from you; they have already died once, revived, so their perspective on death differs from yours, naturally. You should stick to your own methods; don’t let them lead you astray.”

Though they felt something was off with Fang Zheng’s comfort, the young girls, being quite young, obediently followed Fang Zheng’s words without asking further.

What awaited everyone in the following time was Witch’s Night.

Besides Akemi Homura, none of the others had any experience dealing with Witch’s Night. Many magical girls hadn’t even heard of Witch’s Night, so all information came from Akemi Homura.

It was clear that Akemi Homura was very experienced in handling Witch’s Night; having faced the boss hundreds of times during her cycles, she knew exactly what moves it would make.

But listening to Akemi Homura’s descriptions, even the most battle-hardened magical girls turned serious.

According to Akemi Homura, the range affected by Witch’s Night was vast, and it appeared like a hurricane, differing from the stingy witches often faced day-to-day; it easily covered half the city in its barrier. Its massive size could summon numerous familiar spirits.

This was nothing like the typical witches that most magical girls dealt with regularly.

As to what specific harm Witch’s Night might cause, Akemi Homura was unsure, as in her cycles, either Kyoko defeated Witch’s Night, or she and Kyoko teamed up to do so, eventually leading to Kyoko making a contract and defeating Witch’s Night before transforming herself into a witch.

In other words, the so-called final boss was quite unfortunate, seemingly invincible on the surface, but no one knew what actual harm it could inflict.

According to QB, Witch’s Night would destroy the entire world.

But, of course, the magical girls present scoffed at such claims.

None of them trusted even a punctuation mark from QB.

No matter what, Witch’s Night was their strongest enemy, and most importantly, according to Akemi Homura, only Kyoko had defeated it, even Mami Tomoe couldn’t.

Akemi Homura couldn’t explain why, but she once shared her doubts with Fang Zheng: in gaming terms, it was as if Kyoko was naturally countering Witch’s Night, with ordinary strikes being critical hits, while others seemed like facing a buffed boss, barely scratching its health.

Anyway, Akemi Homura herself could never defeat it, feeling like this boss was without a health bar in front of her.

But regardless, this forthcoming battle was one all of them had to face.

And it was fast approaching.

After understanding Witch’s Night’s specifics, all magical girls began preparing.

As time passed day by day, at last, the destined day of the ultimate battle arrived.
