Chapter 386: Chapter 385 The Beginning of Fierce Battle and Collapse

”Da-da-da———!!”

Gunfire erupted.

When Fang Zheng opened his eyes, he could clearly see the bright red flames and explosions in the distance under the night sky, with the sound of gunfire incessant. Warplanes roared past, and he could even faintly make out the flashes emitted by the artillery and tanks positioned at the defensive line.

”The battle has begun,”

Fang Zheng yawned out of boredom, half-squinting as he stood up and stretched. The other children had also woken up by then, quickly packing up their belongings, wearing anxious and grave expressions as they looked toward the battlefield. Since Fang Zheng didn’t speak, the children simply watched quietly from the side, their eyes filled with unease and worry.

Could the Self-Defense Force achieve victory?

Perhaps so, for up until now, Fang Zheng and the others had not received any signals or orders for support. However, Fang Zheng was well aware of the reason; the opposing forces considered themselves the heroic unit that had defeated the Intestinal Creatures in the Second Intestinal War, and they would never seek help from the ”Cursed Children,” who also possessed monster bloodlines. For them, being devoured by Intestinal Creatures or seeking help from the ”Cursed Children” both equated to failure.

Time passed by the minute and the second.

The gunfire at the front began to diminish, and the roars of the Intestinal Creatures were almost inaudible. Then, after a few more seconds or perhaps minutes, silence settled once again. Apart from the thick smoke wafting over the battlefield, there was no other sound.

Fang Zheng looked toward Little Angel beside him, while Nymph closed her eyes and gently shook her head.

All annihilated? As expected.

”How many?”

”Intestinal Creatures totaled five thousand, of which two thousand three hundred twenty-five were previously eliminated by the Self-Defense Force... The Self-Defense Force had about three thousand two hundred men...”

”So?”

”We are now facing nearly seven thousand Intestinal Creatures.”

”I knew it would come to this.”

Fang Zheng raised his hand, and the next moment, a Vampire appeared in his grasp.

”Alright, prepare for battle! Remember, everyone is allowed to release up to fifty percent of their power—Phase Two. Do not recklessly advance. Our first objective is to retake the defensive positions abandoned by those fools, while also preventing further invasion by the Intestinal Creatures! Natsuse, you take command of the front line this time, and Nymph, you’re responsible for rear support. Move out!”

”Yes!”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s command, Natsuse nodded. She then slung her automatic rifle back over her shoulder and, in the blink of an eye, her petite figure appeared on the plain below the hillside. In front of her, the pitch-black haze gradually dissipated, revealing hundreds, if not thousands, of Intestinal Creatures that emerged from the smoke, screeching as they charged forward.

”............”

Facing the enemies before her, Natsuse’s expressionless face bore a trace of gravity as she raised her right hand, her eyes turning a vivid red. Soon, a bright green Psionic Radiance condensed in her hand, forming into a dazzling light orb. At that moment, even the clouds in the sky seemed drawn to this power, swirling and converging as brilliant silver serpents descended from the heavens into the girl’s hand.

Then, Natsuse clenched her right hand and looked toward the countless Intestinal Creatures before her, pressing forcefully toward the ground.

”———————!!!”

The next moment, a circular Lightning Storm spread out from the girl at the center, instantly expanding. Countless lightning bolts converged to form a vast circle that spun like a storm, lifting all the approaching Intestinal Creatures into the sky, where they were completely incinerated by the lightning and Psionic energy into pitch black char and ash.

”Ahhhhhhhh!!”

With a piercing scream, Aohara Nobiru leaped high from the hillside, her two rabbit ears sticking up straight. Red psionic energy erupted around her feet, enveloping her body like flowing lava. Suddenly, she descended onto the battlefield like a meteor falling from the sky. With a loud ”boom,” a large hole appeared among the forward-charging Intestinal Creatures. The intense explosion and impact blasted the nearby Intestinal Creatures into fragments, and Nobiru didn’t miss this opportunity. Almost immediately upon landing, she jumped up again and swept her right leg forward.

”Bang!!”

Another red Psionic Sphere shot out from the girl’s foot, blasting forward like a cannonball and instantly repelling another wave of Intestinal Creatures.

”Well, I’m off too, big brother,” she said.

At this moment, Fumie Busei adjusted her hat, then lifted her head and nodded at Fang Zheng with a smile. Then, with a swoosh, a purple Psionic Blade emerged from her raised right hand. Engulfed in pitch-black smoke, the girl vanished into the shadows of the night.

The offensive of the Intestinal Creatures was almost completely suppressed as soon as it erupted. The ”Cursed Children,” endowed with the dual powers of Intestinal Creatures and Psionics and after rigorous training, had powers almost equivalent to that of Level One Star Spirit combat elites. Thirty-five ”Cursed Children” formed three lines of defense. The frontline, led by Natsuse, was responsible for eliminating most of the Intestinal Creatures, while the middle support troops dealt with any that got through. The support troops at the rear were always ready to swap with the frontline fighters, ensuring that others had ample time to rest and recuperate.

”The Intestinal Creatures this time really are different from before,” he noted.

Standing on the hillside and monitoring the battlefield, Fang Zheng frowned. During this time, in order to ”train troops,” he had frequently observed and fought against Intestinal Creatures alongside others. However, back then, these creatures seemed utterly mindless, driven only by the instincts to eat and sleep, relentlessly attacking human settlements like creatures crashing against a wall. But this time, although the initial attack by the Intestinal Creatures was fierce, after being heavily struck by Natsuse and Midori, they seemed to realize that their opponents were formidable and began retreating, as if attempting to lure the enemy deeper into their midst.

Fortunately, with Natsuse and Nymph assisting and having activated full-map radar, the ”Cursed Children” were not fooled. Under Natsuse’s leadership, they pressed forward steadily, focusing on reclaiming the defensive positions overrun by the Intestinal Creatures.

And at that moment, Nymph’s voice once again reached Fang Zheng’s ears.

”Master, air support from the rear has arrived.”

”Oh?”

Hearing Nymph’s words, Fang Zheng glanced at the sky and indeed saw several fighter jets zooming overhead, indicating that the higher-ups had also noticed something was amiss and decided to provide high-altitude bombing support.

Fang Zheng wasn’t worried about them ”accidentally bombing” their own people, as Nymph was watching after all. If anything went wrong... well, isn’t it quite common for missiles to fail to launch?

But... would it really go smoothly?

”Swoosh——!”

As if in response to Fang Zheng’s speculation, the moment those jets appeared over the battlefield, countless Light Beams suddenly erupted from behind the Intestinal Creatures. Cutting through the sky like anti-aircraft fire, they streaked toward the approaching jets.

Perhaps because they had never expected the Intestinal Creatures to be capable of ”anti-air” action, the jets weren’t overly vigilant. By the time they realized something was wrong, it was too late, despite their efforts to dodge and gain altitude to avoid the attack. They were hit by the sudden Light Rain and exploded in mid-air.

”Everyone, be careful, get out of the way!!”

The zooming Light Beams fell to the ground like crossbow arrows, and just then, Natsuse and others hurriedly retreated. Fortunately, they were protected by Psionic Shields, so even if hit, they wouldn’t be injured.

But then...

”As expected, trouble has come,” he said.

Fang Zheng lifted his head and looked towards the front.

There, a chorus of howling voices, like those of wild beasts or Evil Spirits, began to resonate.
