Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 385: Chapter 384 The Gradually Approaching Crisis

The battle was finally about to begin.

Fang Zheng stood on a nearby hillside, looking down at the soldiers below. The interior of the Tokyo Special Zone was still relatively stable, for a simple reason: although the media had reported a large number of Intestinal Creatures appearing around, there was no sign of Taurus. The Hua Stone-crafted Monolith was also safe and had encountered no problems. In most people’s minds, as long as the Monolith was intact, the Tokyo Special Zone was secure.

Not to mention that the officials had deliberately concealed the news about Taurus, and only a very few people knew this secret. Moreover, Taurus had always been stealthily deep in the ocean. Only through satellite could its occasional emissions be detected to determine Taurus’s advance path and direction.

At present, the Tokyo Special Zone had already formulated combat plans. The combat troops were to first clear all Intestinal Creatures located at Narita and Ryuuzaki, then set up a defensive line here. This was to ensure that as soon as Taurus landed at Kashima, an immediate attack could be launched to either completely repel or eliminate it. And if that failed, it would still give the Tokyo Special Zone enough response time—at least enough to allow those high-ranking officials to evacuate early.

As for the ordinary civilians... well, it was just as well. After all, this was the Zodiac Belt that had once annihilated the entire Earth, pushing human civilization to the brink of destruction. With thousands of cities destroyed before it, what harm would one more do?

At the moment, the soldiers were engaged in combat with the Intestinal Creatures, while Fang Zheng and others—were just on the sidelines watching the excitement.

This was not because they were slacking off; rather, the Self-Defense Force had instructed them not to go to the frontline without orders, so Fang Zheng simply found a shady spot at the back and joined the other kids in playing video games online.

Although Fumie Busei and others were surprised and bewildered by this order, Fang Zheng did not see anything wrong with it. After all, these Self-Defense Force members were the ”heroes” of the second Intestinal War. In fact, it was their victory in the second Intestinal War eight years ago that had saved these people from the brink of extinction. With such a brilliant ”historical achievement,” these soldiers naturally held immense confidence in themselves. This was also why His Majesty’s proposal had been difficult to pass in the parliament; eight years ago, because of the victory in the second Intestinal War, many military officers rose to high positions and were now high-ranking officials. For them, dealing with Intestinal Creatures was no different now than it had been eight years ago. Before these damned creatures appeared, they had also eliminated Intestinal Creatures, so these military representatives had always been quite displeased with the Heavenly Dao Palace.

The orders issued this time were just as uncompromising, even threatening them with ”should you disobey the orders to reach the frontlines, we will not be responsible for any mishaps that occur.”

What could Fang Zheng possibly say to that?

Slacking off was the most important thing, after all!

Of course, their actions were not based on blind confidence. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

”——————!!!”

”They really do make a fuss.”

Listening to the roaring noise of the fighter jets swooping through the air, Fang Zheng irritably rubbed his ears; he had wanted to take a nap, but those damned bastards seemed to be doing this just to spite him, launching a series of continuous aerial bombings on those Intestinal Creatures.

It was nothing more than a tactic to bully the enemy’s aerial units that had not arrived and swagger around the ground units before sending in the infantry to finish them off. What was there to be proud of?

Fang Zheng really couldn’t understand where these people’s confidence came from. The Intestinal Creatures had airborne types too; it was just that they hadn’t appeared this time. Did they really think that mortar and high-altitude bombing would solve the Intestinal Creatures? Nevermind, since his task was to clean up the mess anyway, cleaning up anyone’s mess was the same—it was all a mess in the end.

”Big brother, don’t they really need our help?”

Watching the defensive positions being set up in the distance, Fumie Busei asked worriedly. Those continuous high-altitude bombings were indeed effective, having cleared most of the Intestinal Creatures from the combat area. Now the soldiers were starting to establish defensive positions here, and of course, no one bothered with Fang Zheng and the ”Cursed Children,” and Fang Zheng was also reluctant to interact with them.

”No need, those people also have their pride. Let them fuss about,”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng reached out and stroked Fumie Busei’s head, pinching her cute cat ears. The little loli’s cheeks flushed, but she didn’t shy away. Instead, like a cute little cat, she rubbed her head against Fang Zheng’s hand.

”Big brother’s hand ... so warm...”

”Ah!”

And just then, Nobiru suddenly jumped out from beside him.

”Midori, you’re so crafty! This time, Miss here also wants—!”

”Enough with you two,” Fang Zheng said.

He pushed Nobiru Aohara, who had pounced on him, back in place. Ever since the first time Tina had successfully ”ambushed” him, the other children seemed to have taken a cue, not only cornering Fang Zheng collectively after that battle to demand kisses—eventually, Fang Zheng relented and kissed each one on the cheek to pass the test—but ever since, whenever Fang Zheng showed the slightest affection towards any child, the others who saw it would immediately rush over demanding the same treatment—thankfully, Fang Zheng was a decent person, and apart from being ambushed by Tina that time, he had done nothing that warranted calling the police.

This time, Fang Zheng brought more ”Coordinators” than before, a total of thirty-five. These were children who, having completed their adjustments, could fight against the Intestinal Creatures and would not suffer too much psychological burden, or possessed a firm will and were willing to go into battle.

In fact, up to this point, Fang Zheng had transformed over three hundred ”Coordinators,” but he did not let all of them join the battle. Even though on paper, many of the Coordinators had high scores, one crucial fact was overlooked: they were still children.

And they were children under ten years old.

Anything could happen on the battlefield: being surrounded by Intestinal Creatures, ambushed from a covert spot, the team breaking down, comrades being injured or dying, facing a life-threatening crisis. These things, even for a well-trained rookie soldier stepping onto the battlefield for the first time, might not be bearable, let alone for these children.

For instance, facing the muzzle of a gun. Nearly all of the ”Cursed Children” possessed dynamic vision that could easily track a bullet’s trajectory and had the speed and reflexes to effortlessly dodge gunfire. Whether it was a pistol or an automatic rifle, they could definitely dodge it if they wished.

But why were so many Cursed Children still shot? The reason was that at the moment they were targeted by the ominous black muzzle, their minds went completely blank, losing all their supposed reactions. Aside from instinctive dodging, they would hardly remember anything. Not to mention observing the position of the muzzle and calculating the bullet’s trajectory.

The same is true for ordinary people. Many people watch villains with guns in movies and criticize why others don’t dodge, but only when the gun is actually pointed at them do they realize they can’t even move, let alone dodge.

And such ”Cursed Children,” even if adjusted, were not allowed by Fang Zheng to enter the battlefield. Otherwise, even if they had the ability to easily handle Stage I Intestinal Creatures, they would be devoured alive by those monsters. This is no game where you can just click the mouse and unhesitatingly throw lives away.

That’s why, after rigorous training and exercises, Fang Zheng initially selected a hundred ”Coordinators” with outstanding combat abilities, then took them to the surface to fight against the Intestinal Creatures in real combat, and well... only less than thirty of them passed successfully and became members of this battle, while the others were sent back to Heavenly Dao Palace by Fang Zheng for various reasons.

However, to confront those Intestinal Creatures, this was already more than enough.

”Alright, the battle will start late at night, you all go rest now. Otherwise, if you’re not well-rested, you won’t have the strength to fight in the evening,” Fang Zheng said.

He patted Nobiru’s little head and soon gave orders to the girls around him. Although so far, no one knew when those Intestinal Creatures led by Taurus would arrive. But with his Prophecy Spell and Future Sight, Fang Zheng was clear that they would start their landing operations at midnight today, as for the result...

Well, let’s keep that a mystery for now.

Gazing at the distant defensive position, Fang Zheng yawned silently, then leaned against a tree nearby and closed his eyes.

Now, he could finally have a good dream.
