Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 379: Chapter 378 Imaginable Developments

At this moment, the air inside the command room was oppressively heavy.

”How, how can this be?”

Staring at the radar signals and markers, the councilors were struck dumb one by one. They almost couldn’t believe their eyes; in fact, even the Holy Son now wore an expression of surprise.

No wonder these people were so astonished. Although they had deemed the ”Cursed Children” to certainly possess significant combat capabilities, these had been only paper-based data provided by IISO before. And now, for the first time, the ”Cursed Children” were truly fighting as a group.

But the result had completely defied their expectations.

In just ten minutes, nearly four hundred Intestinal Creatures had been eradicated, and their opponents were only... seven Cursed Children?

What sort of joke was this?

Those present were survivors of the Age of Plunder, and they were very aware of how formidable the Intestinal Creatures were. But now... why did these Intestinal Creatures seem so brittle? Even during conflicts between human nations before the first Intestinal War, unless there was an initial round of high-altitude bombing, it was rare to see a loss of four hundred within ten minutes!

And for this operation, they were to assess the combat capabilities of the ”Cursed Children” and the Heavenly Dao Palace, so naturally, they could not have sent aerial support for them. In fact, when these councilors learned that only ten people were sent to the battlefield, they were waiting to see the other side’s misfortune unfold. After all, although the ”Cursed Children” had strong regenerative powers, everyone knew there existed within them the shackles of the ”Corruption Level”. What if the ”Cursed Children” became Intestinal Creatures as their Corruption Level rose?

And now, they had witnessed the combat potency of these ”Cursed Children,” but... it exceeded what they could possibly accept.

”What’s going on? How is this possible? Are we certain there’s no problem with the radar?”

A councilor pounded on the table vigorously, his face contorted with ferocity, and upon hearing his roar, the radar operator replied tremblingly.

”Re, report, the radar signal is functioning normally, there are no issues!”

”But how can this be? How was this accomplished?”

Since the people in the Black World could only confirm via the biological signals on the radar, and didn’t have the sort of advanced technology that Nymph had for live broadcasting, they were clueless about how those ”Cursed Children” fought. They could only see the light points representing the Intestinal Creatures rapidly disappearing as the ”Cursed Children” advanced, almost like a thorough cleaning, and soon enough, half the screen was wiped clean.

And now, not even three hours had passed.

Perhaps from exhaustion, the people observed the radar signals representing the ”Cursed Children” gathering together, taking a rest for a while, then—continuing to advance.

”It seems that we have now seen the strength of the Heavenly Dao Palace, everyone.” The Holy Son said with a slight smile.

”Now, does anyone still oppose this bill?”

”I oppose!!”

But, to the surprise of the Holy Son, the councilor who had been shouting vehemently had once again voiced his opposition.

”Why?”

”Look... these ’Cursed Children’ are so powerful; they took out so many Intestinal Creatures in such a short amount of time. If we pass a protective bill, sheltering these creatures, what if they take advantage of the law to do as they please with ordinary citizens? We as councilors have a duty to protect the safety of the public! These monsters don’t deserve protection; furthermore, I propose we should immediately banish all ’Cursed Children’!”

”...........”

Hearing this, the Holy Son and the other councilors were stunned, then, the Holy Son frowned.

”But the threat of the Zodiac Belt... We need the support of the Heavenly Dao Palace... Otherwise, the entire Tokyo Region will be in grave danger! We need the power of those children to protect this city!”

”I strongly object!”

But the council member clearly did not give up on this.

”Allowing those creatures to protect us is a desecration to humankind! Moreover, how can you guarantee that these ’Cursed Children’ won’t become allies of the Zodiac Belt? We all know that ’Taurus’ possesses a very strange ability to control other Intestinal Creatures. What if it uses this power to control the ’Cursed Children’? Are we supposed to entrust our lives and safety to those monsters then?”

”This...”

”That’s right...”

Hearing this, other council members also began to hesitate. In fact, in the eyes of most people from the Age of Plunder, ’Cursed Children’ were no different from Intestinal Creatures because, in the end, they would also turn into Intestinal Creatures! No, it should be said that these ”Cursed Children” were never human to begin with, but monsters!

What if the Cursed Children were truly controlled by ”Taurus” and then turned against the Tokyo District? What then?

”Right, I have a good idea.”

At this, another council member raised their hand.

”We can accept the request of the ’Heavenly Dao Palace,’ but as a precaution, we have our conditions. We must put explosive collars on the Cursed Children so that even if those creatures are controlled by Taurus, we can detonate the collars immediately and kill those monsters!”

”That’s not a bad idea!”

Hearing this, other council members nodded in agreement.

”That’s right, we can’t leave our safety in the hands of a bunch of monsters. We must have a way to restrain them! Otherwise, what will we do if something goes wrong? We must be responsible for the people of the Tokyo Region!”

”And we can fit them with large quantities of explosives so that if the Cursed Children get surrounded, we can blow up the bombs directly and cause casualties among the Intestinal Creatures. In this way, we can prevent the Cursed Children from turning into monsters and deal with the Intestinal Creatures at the same time! It’s like hitting two birds with one stone!”

”That’s right, it truly is a good idea...”

”I think you may have misunderstood something.”

The voice of the Holy Son was like a cold wind that made the heated discussion once again fall into a chilling silence. She stood up, her gaze coldly fixed on the council members before her.

”I hope you understand that it’s the Tokyo Region and the people of the Tokyo Region that are under threat from the Zodiac Belt and ’Taurus,’ not the Heavenly Dao Palace. Who gave you the confidence to think that the Heavenly Dao Palace would agree to such absurd demands? Should we really respond to the goodwill they have shown us in such a manner?”

”What about it? We can also cultivate our own ’Cursed Children’...”

”Do you want to repeat the tragedy of the IISO in the Tokyo Region again?”

”............”

At this, the council members were left speechless. ”Heavenly Dao Palace” was a mysterious organization with unclear affiliations and an enigmatic identity. Apart from the organization’s capability to collect ”Cursed Children” on a global scale, little was known about them. But considering Fang Zheng’s forces had overpowered even the regular troops of IISO, if they created another such facility... it could very well end up with the same fate.

”Now then, let’s proceed with the vote.”

The Holy Son looked around at the council members once more.

”Regarding the ’Cursed Child Protection Bill’...” freewēbnoveℓ.com
