Chapter 375: Chapter 374 An Offer You Can’t Refuse

”............”

Facing Fang Zheng’s inquiry, the Holy Son was unable to respond for a long time. She had once hoped to persuade the young man before her with the noble cause of saving the city and protecting its people. But after seeing the video just now, she couldn’t say anything at all.

If just before, the Holy Son did not understand why Fang Zheng spoke as he did, now she finally realized how insulting and disdainful it was to say that the ”Cursed Children” were ”pitiful.”

”It seems you can’t persuade me.”

Fang Zheng set down his teacup.

”You see, my stance is very clear: those children are good kids, and I won’t let them be dragged into your filthy, ugly, and dark politics. IISO is formidable, but I want to see just how capable they dare to be under my watch. Moreover, the life and death of the Tokyo Region have nothing to do with me. Miss Holy Son should feel fortunate that you have such brave citizens, who, I’m sure, will pick up their weapons and fight the Intestinal Creatures when they storm in...”

”Uh....”

Hearing this, the Holy Son was at a loss for words. Fang Zheng was right, IISO was indeed a global united organization, but the Heavenly Dao Palace never took IISO seriously. One important reason why the civilian police system had not been able to operate formally to date was that IISO needed to allocate ”Cursed Children” to the civilian police, but every time they had just gathered the ”Cursed Children,” Fang Zheng would pop up from who knows where and thoroughly thrash IISO, then leisurely take away the ”Cursed Children” that they had finally collected.

After several such episodes, IISO’s work had basically come to a standstill, because they had put so much effort into capturing ”Cursed Children” not to supply resources to the ”Heavenly Dao Palace.”

If it were peacetime, Fang Zheng and the ”Heavenly Dao Palace” would probably have been on a global wanted list long ago, but unfortunately, the current situation was that humanity had lost eighty percent of its land, only managing to cower within the Monolith, barely clinging to life. In such a situation, it was obviously impossible for them to dispatch their already precious guard forces to pursue the Heavenly Dao Palace, whose whereabouts were unknown.

”Lad.”

Just then, an old man who had been standing behind the Holy Son finally spoke. He stared coldly at Fang Zheng, his eyes devoid of any emotion.

”Judging by your age, you’re also a survivor from the ’Age of Plunder,’ aren’t you? So why do you protect those Demons? Were your family not killed by those creatures? Devoured? Did you not witness for yourself how those creatures treated your relatives during the Intestinal War?”

”From the way you speak, it seems you have relatives who were sacrificed during the Intestinal War?”

In the face of the old man’s questioning, Fang Zheng could not even be bothered to lift his eyelids, while the old man snorted coldly.

”That’s right, my wife, my family, all died in the first Intestinal War! Those creatures brutally killed them, and I, will not allow those creatures to continue to live! Whether it’s Intestinal Creatures or those ’Cursed Children,’ they should all go to hell!”

”Oh...”

Fang Zheng yawned lazily, glancing at the old man with utter indifference.

”You want vengeance for your family? Then I have a suggestion for you: take a gun and go outside the Monolith, where there are more Intestinal Creatures than you can count. Maybe you’ll even find your wife’s bones in the belly of one of them! Heh, what’s the matter? Don’t have the guts to go? Afraid to face those Intestinal Creatures head-on, you only dare to show off in front of a bunch of defenseless kids, pretending to be all righteous... People like you, do you know what they are called?”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng slightly lifted his chin, looking down on the old man with contempt.

”Coward.”

”Impudence!!”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s reply, the old man roared angrily, but before he could make any move, Fang Zheng opened his eyes and glanced at him. The next moment, the old man felt an intense pressure bear down on him like a massive stone falling from the sky, and he grunted as he fell to his knees. Meanwhile, Fang Zheng leaned back on the sofa, yawning again.

”You don’t deserve to stand and talk to me. Just kneel there on the ground, crawl like a dog.”

”Mr. Fang Zheng...”

Seeing this scene, the Holy Son’s complexion turned pale.

”Is it not a bit too much to treat an old man like this?”

”Not at all.”

Fang Zheng shrugged his shoulders.

”I respect a person based on their character, not their age. In my hometown, there’s a saying, ’An old man who does not die is a thief.’ I think it fits this guy quite well.”

With that, Fang Zheng stood up.

”If you have nothing else to say, then I’m leaving.”

”Please, wait a moment, Mr. Fang Zheng!!”

As Fang Zheng stood up, the Holy Son immediately cried out in alarm. She clenched her fists, stood up, and gazed intently at Fang Zheng. Then a bright idea seemed to strike the Holy Son.

”I, I think that your visit here isn’t just to scold us. As you’ve said, you’re unwilling to fight for the citizens of Tokyo City, and I can understand your feelings. But you still accepted my invitation to come here, which means you must be considering cooperation, right? If that weren’t the case, you wouldn’t have cared about my invitation at all!”

”Oh?”

At these words, Fang Zheng paused in his steps and turned to look at the white-haired girl in front of him. After a moment, he smiled faintly.

”Interesting. So, what’s your decision?”

Faced with Fang Zheng’s question, the Holy Son remained silent for a moment before she clenched her hands even tighter.

”I... I still want to protect the Tokyo District and its citizens. For that... please, Mr. Fang Zheng, lend me your... and those children’s strength.”

”...You do realize that this isn’t free, right?”

”Of course.”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s reply, the Holy Son’s expression turned resolute.

”May I ask, what do you require?”

”It’s simple.”

Looking at the girl before him, Fang Zheng reached out and pulled a piece of paper from his bosom, tossing it over to her. The paper glided silently through the air, landing perfectly in front of the Holy Son, who reached out to pick it up and glanced at it, her expression changing slightly.

”The ’Cursed Child’ Protection Law?”

”Exactly.”

Fang Zheng snapped his fingers.

”Starting from the day the law is enacted, all forms of bullying, harm, and abuse against Cursed Children will be considered illegal. Offenders will be arrested and jailed on charges of insult—hmm, I’ll provide the prison, right in front of the Monolith on the outskirts. I believe since those people despise Intestinal Creatures so much, it’ll be fitting to let them get up close and personal with them, to vent their hatred. At the same time, it will serve to protect the Monolith. How about it? It’s a good idea, isn’t it?”

”But, but this... this will be very hard to pass!”

The Holy Son exclaimed, her eyes widening in surprise.

”You should know, Mr. Fang Zheng, the current societal views regarding those children...”

”That’s not my problem to worry about.”

Fang Zheng waved his hand dismissively, cutting off the Holy Son mid-sentence.

”You must understand, Miss Holy Son, you are ’requesting’ our help. To you, we are Saviors. Therefore, please show the proper respect to a ’Savior’, whether it’s kneeling and bowing or shedding grateful tears; that’s the appropriate behavior. I certainly don’t want my dear children fighting on the front lines, while that ignorant bunch at the rear disparage our efforts. To enjoy our protection on one hand, while unabashedly denigrating our efforts on the other.”

”But even if this law passes, it’s impossible to enforce it...”

”As long as it passes, that’s enough.”

Faced with the Holy Son’s anxious inquiry, Fang Zheng once again revealed a sly smile.

”Once the law is passed, leave the rest to Heavenly Dao Palace to deal with... rest assured, everything will be done within the bounds of the law.”

For some reason, as she looked at Fang Zheng’s smile, the Holy Son felt a chill down her spine—as if a ferocious beast with bared fangs was opening its massive jaws before her.

Eventually, she bowed her head.

”I understand.”
