Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 363: Chapter 362: Pitch Black New World

”Why does every world seem to be in ruins these days?”

Gazing upon the city ruins before him, Fang Zheng felt he didn’t even have a moment to sigh.

Come to think of it, except for the world of Shana, which let him enjoy a bit of peaceful daily life, the rest were either on the brink of destruction or already destroyed... Can’t I just enjoy an ordinary life for once?

”Japan again... But that’s not surprising.”

Glancing at the rusted street sign beneath his feet, Fang Zheng quickly figured out where he was. He should be on the outskirts of Tokyo now... But when did Tokyo turn into this mess? Could it be Godzilla’s world? Ah, if it’s Godzilla, that’d be fantastic, Fang Zheng is waiting for when he can get his hands on Godzilla’s corpse to teach the Zerg how to release EMPs!

However...

”Well, it doesn’t seem like it’s Godzilla after all.”

Fang Zheng looked up and towards the distance, only to see several huge pitch-black steles rising within the ruins of the city. To tell the truth, he had no idea what these steles were for. If they were meant as monuments, they were ludicrously tall. But they couldn’t be walls either, as these steles were placed separately, which city wall leaves such big gaps?

”Anyhow, that way seems to be a human settlement. Let’s go and see what’s going on.”

As he spoke, Fang Zheng started walking toward the direction he had been observing.

After turning a couple of streets, Fang Zheng finally arrived at the human settlement he had sensed before, but the scene before him only deepened his confusion.

”What in the world is this place?”

Based on the ruins around him, this world clearly looked like one of those on the verge of destruction, like Resident Evil, Godzilla, or Edge of Tomorrow. In Fang Zheng’s mind, humans in such places usually huddle in their shelters, trembling with fear, awaiting death. This was like the refuge he saw in the Fire Dragon Empire or the militarized controlled zones in the Edge of Tomorrow World.

But now...

”Have I returned to the normal world, for heaven’s sake?”

Fang Zheng widened his eyes and glanced at the busy, ordinary-looking scene in front of him with the traffic and people, then turned to look back at the ruins behind him—nothing’s wrong, he wasn’t mistaken.

What exactly is this world?

Walking on the bustling streets, Fang Zheng observed his surroundings carefully. Although the city seemed almost normal, he could sense an unpleasant aroma in the air. Having traveled through so many worlds, Fang Zheng’s understanding of them had grown. Much like clothes made from different materials give off different scents, in fact, each world’s air also contained distinctive aromas.

For example, the world of Edge of Tomorrow emanated a certain scent of iron and blood, and the world of the Fire Dragon Empire exuded the scent of a dying person in the hospital bed, a sweet and foul stench. However, this world gave Fang Zheng a particularly bad feeling. Although everything seemed orderly on the surface and the streets were bustling with people and laughter, Fang Zheng could faintly sense that from this city, even from every person in it, there emanated a cold, dark, and corrupt aura. It was similar to the feeling he got from the cultists in the Main World.

Chaos, corruption, evil.

So annoying.

Looking at those walking on the streets, smiling, Fang Zheng frowned deeply. What on earth was going on with this world? These people looked normal enough, so why did they exude the stench of cultists?

”Get out! Creature!”

Just then, Fang Zheng’s ears caught a burst of angry roars, and he reflexively turned his head toward the source of the noise. He saw a crowd gathered there, seemingly cursing at something vehemently.

”This is not a place for creatures like you! Get lost!”

”Get lost, quick!”

What had happened?

Hearing these angry cries, Fang Zheng frowned and moved forward. Then, he saw something quite astonishing.

In the center of the encircling crowd was what appeared to be a girl of about seven or eight years old. She had silver-white long hair and wore a ragged dress, looking almost like a beggar. But what surprised Fang Zheng the most was a pair of cat-like ears on the girl’s head!

Could this be some Fantasy world? But it didn’t seem to be the case either. Looking around, apart from this girl, everyone else appeared indistinguishable from humans. This meant that this was not some kind of Magic World, but... why did the girl have cat ears then? And why were those people treating her so?

”This damn creature... Kill her!”

And as the trembling girl stood there, none of the people who surrounded her showed a hint of sympathy, rather, they seemed to become even angrier and frenzy. Fang Zheng even saw a few pick up rocks from the ground and start pelting them at the girl!

What the heck!

Seeing this scene, Fang Zheng’s expression turned slightly serious as he flashed in front of the girl, and then extended his hand to wave forward.

”Bang bang bang!!”

The next moment, following Fang Zheng’s movement, the rocks hurling toward the girl instantly shattered. As the crowd around them saw Fang Zheng suddenly appear before the girl, they were all taken aback.

”Who are you? Are you trying to protect this creature?”

”Creature?”

Hearing someone from the crowd question him, Fang Zheng raised an eyebrow. Before he could speak again, others also started shouting out.

”That’s right, be careful it doesn’t eat you!”

”Get out of the way now!”

”Wuu... wuu...”

Hearing the angry roars of the crowd, the girl curled up even more, letting out a whimpering cry, looking just like a battered, abandoned kitten on the street. Fang Zheng extended his hand and gently stroked her hair. Feeling Fang Zheng’s touch, the girl looked up in surprise, gazing at him.

”Can you stand up?”

”I can...”

Seeing Fang Zheng’s outstretched hand, the girl nodded and carefully placed her hand onto his as she stood up. Watching this scene unfold, the crowd seemed to grow even more enraged.

”Are you actually going to protect such a creature? Are you still human? Bastard!”

Along with the angry shouting, a middle-aged man raised a rock in his hand and threw it with all his might at Fang Zheng and the girl. Seeing this, Fang Zheng’s expression darkened slightly.

”Seeking death!”

”Bang——!”

Before the words even finished, a dark figure exploded beside Fang Zheng. Forbidden Whip roared out, tearing through the crowd like a hurricane, sending them flying away.

”Ahh——!”

”Yah——!”

”My leg!! Help! Help!!”

”Hmph, a bunch of trash.”

Glancing at those sent flying by the Forbidden Whip, lying on the ground howling in pain, Fang Zheng snorted coldly. A bunch of ordinary people actually found joy in bullying a child. In that case, let these bastards taste what it feels like to be bullied.

”Call the police! Call the police quickly! There’s a murderer here!”

Gimme a break.

Watching people around him pick up their phones to call the police, Fang Zheng felt completely baffled. All these adults bullying a child and you don’t call the cops, but when I deal with them, you do? Is this world even sane? Do these people have issues in their heads?

Forget it, now’s not the time to be lollygagging with the police here.

Glancing at the crowd, Fang Zheng reached out, picked up the girl beside him, and held her in his arms.

”Let’s get out of here first!”

”Ah, yes...”

Faced with Fang Zheng’s sudden action, the girl was startled, but soon, she obediently nodded her head. Without further hesitation, Fang Zheng’s figure flashed, and with the girl, he quickly vanished into the streets.
