Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 365: Chapter 364: Guarding the Last Hope of This World (Part 1)

Fang Zheng carelessly put the magazine aside on the table, then lifted his head and looked ahead. Right in front of him stood a girl with silvery-white long hair, trembling slightly. She was dressed in a sailor suit with a black skirt, covered by a pink sweater, and wore black knee socks with a pair of small leather shoes. Her gentle and soft manner made her particularly adorable.

But...

”Is this okay? It’s just a sales item, right?”

Fang Zheng glanced at the sales tag next to them. Although he had told Fumie Busei that she could choose any clothes in the shop, the girl seemed to have picked the cheapest set.

”And... that hat, won’t you change it?”

If the clothes pairing barely made it, the triangular witch hat was rather awkward. In Fang Zheng’s view, a beret or sun hat might be more fitting.

However, to his surprise, upon hearing Fang Zheng’s suggestion, Fumie Busei quickly stepped back, reached out to hold her hat, and looked anxiously at Fang Zheng.

”Big brother... I like this hat...”

”Since you like it, let’s keep it that way.”

Fang Zheng had no intention of insisting. Since she said she liked the hat, he would not forcibly ask her to change it. So, after paying, Fang Zheng left the clothing store with Fumie Busei—Hmm? What? You ask where Fang Zheng got the money?

Well, it was from the people he had just taught a lesson to for abusing the little lolita. Lolitas are treasures of this world, not to mention cat-eared lolitas. Those who dared to lay hands on such lovely cat-eared lolitas certainly deserved to be punished.

Afterward, Fang Zheng and Fumie Busei headed to a convenience store to buy food. During this time, Fang Zheng also asked Fumie about the ”Cursed Children,” and as he had guessed, the ”Cursed Children” were completely unwelcome in this area. Essentially, all facilities and stores prohibited the ”Cursed Children” from entering, and even the police would directly expel them upon sight. Therefore, many ”Cursed Children” had no choice but to live in the sewers on the outskirts, where it was filthy and foul, with poor air circulation. If it weren’t for the fact that the ”Cursed Children” didn’t get sick and had extraordinary healing abilities, many of them wouldn’t have been able to continue surviving.

Yet even so, food remained a significant issue for them.

”Cursed Children” were not accepted by society, so naturally, they could not find jobs nor receive charity in the form of money. Hence, they had to search through garbage piles for discarded food to eat. Since ”Cursed Children” didn’t get sick, they could eat even spoiled and rotten food—of course, the taste was another matter.

Some ”Cursed Children” chose to directly rob or steal food from stores, but this was dangerous because in this region, ”Cursed Children” had no basic human rights. Once caught, they could be shot on the spot. Even though the powers of ”Cursed Children” far exceeded those of humans, they were still just kids, not even ten years old.

And, they were good kids.

Carrying a bag full of cheap food, Fang Zheng followed Fumie Busei, silently heading toward the outskirts filled with ruins. The world felt extremely odd to Fang Zheng—logically speaking, the ”Cursed Children,” having experienced such harm, hostility, and even bullying, should also hold some resistance or even extreme animosity toward humans. But for some reason, they were like angels, pure and innocent, as if all the goodness of this world were concentrated in these children.

On the contrary, from those adults who should uphold order and civilization, Fang Zheng could only sense a thick, cultist-like chaos and hatred.

If the ”Cursed Children” were angels with clipped wings, then the humans living here were demons in human skin.

What an ugly world.

Quietly observing the ruins around, Fang Zheng felt completely speechless.

In such a world, what could he possibly do?

”Big brother...”

As Fang Zheng pondered this question, Fumie Busei once again came to his side, smiling as she lifted her head to look at him. She then stretched her hand forward, pointing.

”That’s our home up ahead. Everyone will be very happy to see big brother!”

”I’m also looking forward to meeting them.”

Hearing Fumie Busei speak, Fang Zheng smiled and lifted his head to look ahead, then his expression slightly darkened. Meanwhile, Fumie Busei seemed to sense something too, and she turned her head in surprise toward the front.

”Huh? What happened over there?”

Just ahead of the two, not far away, dozens of fully armed soldiers were raising riot shields and holding guns, surrounding the intersections nearby. Soon, one of the soldiers stepped forward to open a manhole cover and then threw something into it.

”Boom!”

Accompanied by a dull explosion, Fang Zheng and Fumie Busei saw thick smoke billowing out from the sewer. Shortly after, the soldiers quickly retreated, and before long, several figures crawled out. They were mostly girls around six or seven years old, each wearing tattered clothes, looking worn and battered. Perhaps because of the recent attack, these girls were all staggering, seemingly having suffered severe injuries.

”Fire!”

But the pitiable state of the girls did not evoke any sympathy from the soldiers, who, at a command, pulled their triggers at the children in front of them. Accompanied by gunfire, the children let out screams of agony and then fell to the ground, motionless.

”This, this is...”

”Don’t go there!”

Seeing Fumie Busei about to rush over, Fang Zheng hastily grabbed her, feeling that those children hadn’t died but were more like they had been injected with an anesthetic... What on earth were these people up to?

”You wait here, I’ll go save them!”

”Big, big brother?”

Hearing what Fang Zheng said, Fumie Busei’s eyes widened in surprise, staring at him anxiously.

”But, but there are so many people there, and they have guns...”

”Don’t worry, this level isn’t really a problem for me.”

Facing Fumie Busei’s concerns, Fang Zheng stretched out his hand and gently touched her little head.

”Rest assured, I will definitely rescue all your friends.”

They were just a bunch of riffraff.

Thinking this, Fang Zheng’s glance towards those soldiers got even colder. He had been to so many worlds, but this was the first time he saw anyone so brazenly pointing guns at children. To be honest, although he was pretty familiar with the ”basic settings” of this world by now, he still couldn’t accept it.

If you love to bully the weak, then, let me give you a taste of being bullied by someone stronger. ƒгeewebnovёl_com

With this thought, Fang Zheng’s lips slightly curled into a cold smile as he slowly walked toward those soldiers.

”Hmm?”

Seeing Fang Zheng approaching, the soldiers were momentarily stunned. Soon, a few soldiers stepped out from the crowd in an attempt to stop him.

”Hey, you, get out of here immediately. We are carrying out official duties!”

”Scram!”

However, before the soldier’s words had finished, Fang Zheng coldly glanced at them. The moment they felt his gaze, these soldiers felt as if their hearts were seized by an invisible giant hand and had stopped beating. A primordial fear erupted from the depths of their souls, striking violently, rendering their brains completely blank, to the extent that for that instant, they felt as if they had become idiots, unable to remember anything.

When they came to their senses, all they saw was a pitch-black shadow.
