Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

After the Insect Queen completely devoured Deputy Manager Chang’s corpse.

Chen Ming didn’t walk out wearing Deputy Manager Chang’s face right away, but waited in the room for a while.

Having the Insect Queen eat the corpse wasn’t just about destroying the evidence; there was another reason behind it.

After waiting for a few dozen seconds.

The Insect Queen finally sent back some movement.

It transmitted most of the memories it had just extracted from Deputy Manager Chang’s corpse straight into Chen Ming’s mind.

Extracting a creature’s memories from its brain after death was an innate ability of the species the Insect Queen belonged to, the Thorn Insect Race.

In the past, the effect of this ability was at best that after devouring some creatures, the Insect Queen could, through their memories, understand the functions of certain tissues and organs in their bodies, and at most obtain some vague fragments of memory.

But as Chen Ming had carried out several rounds of deep repairs on the Insect Queen, a number of basic abilities of the Thorn Insect Race had been greatly enhanced.

Including, of course, this ability to obtain memories through devouring.

However, because the Insect Queen’s language skills had never improved much, and even when communicating with Chen Ming it mostly relied on Spiritual Energy and mental resonance, it couldn’t properly filter many of the contents in Deputy Manager Chang’s memories.

This resulted in a flood of Deputy Manager Chang’s memories suddenly appearing in Chen Ming’s mind, incredibly detailed.

Chen Ming could only filter out the useful ones himself.

It wasn’t really that troublesome.

Even if an ordinary person’s entire lifetime of memories were stuffed into Chen Ming’s head intact, it still wouldn’t amount to much for a Psychic like him.

After quickly sorting out the useful memories.

Chen Ming found that Deputy Manager Chang was exactly as he’d understood before: he didn’t actually believe in Zuo Jing; he was just using Zuo Jing as a way to rake in money.

However, the personnel department of this Space Station was mainly responsible for personnel management.

The manager was in charge of Zuo Jing personnel, so the deputy manager could only handle non-Zuo Jing personnel.

On a Zuo Jing-controlled Space Station, the difference between the one who manages Zuo Jing people and the one who manages non‑Zuo Jing people can be described as heaven and earth.

So Deputy Manager Chang could only be considered a marginal figure on the Space Station, not particularly important.

But his memories still had some value.

Because among them were memories of the Space Station’s Transformation process, which could be compared with the basic blueprint of the Space Station that Chen Ming had found in the underground laboratory database on the Planet, allowing him to clarify the general layout of the Space Station.

Overall, the Space Station was divided into five layers: the outer personnel layer, the inner personnel layer, the core personnel layer, the isolation layer, and the experiment center.

The place where Chen Ming was staying was the outer personnel layer.

The place where Deputy Manager Chang usually stayed was the inner personnel layer.

Of course, there was no clear separation between the inner personnel layer and the core personnel layer; those who could stay in the inner personnel layer could generally enter the core personnel layer as well.

As for the isolation layer and the experiment center further in, their functions were obvious just from the names.

If Chen Ming wanted to resolve the incident on this Space Station next, he would definitely have to go there.

And aside from the structure of the Space Station, there was another piece of memory in Deputy Manager Chang’s mind that counted as valuable.

It was about that Minister Ye Lirong, who had just arrived at the Space Station during the day.

From his memories, Chen Ming learned that Ye Lirong had actually already come to this Space Station several times before Chen Ming arrived.

Deputy Manager Chang was, at any rate, part of management, so he was involved in receiving visitors each time.

Every time Ye Lirong came, the scenes could be found in his memories.

The first time Ye Lirong came, he looked extremely nervous, and left in a hurry after only a few hours.

The second time he came, his expression was noticeably more relaxed. He wasn’t in a rush to leave; instead he stayed for more than a day before going.

And the third time he came, Deputy Manager Chang happened to hear a bit of news from others.

Apparently it was because Ye Lirong had received word that in the Suren Star Realm’s Suren-6 Star Zone, in the Qiyun Star System’s Industrial Colony—Chen Ming’s colony—a large number of Zuo Jing members had been arrested.

And the Zuo Jing on this ecological observation Space Station happened to be connected with the Zuo Jing over at Chen Ming’s colony.

So he came here at once to confirm the situation on the Space Station and prepare to evacuate quickly if there was a problem.

There was indeed a connection; Chen Ming had followed the trail from that colony all the way to this place.

But in reality, after Ye Lirong and the others were nervous for a few days, they found that no one had come to investigate this Space Station, nor was there any sign that anyone would come.

Even when the results from Chen Ming’s colony were already out and the place was open to external interviews, no one still had come to investigate them.

So Ye Lirong and the others concluded that whoever was in charge of the investigation over there had failed to uncover the link between this Space Station and that colony, and they relaxed.

This time, arriving almost at the same time as Chen Ming, was simply because the experiments on the Space Station seemed to have produced some kind of result.

It was just a pity that Deputy Manager Chang’s clearance was too low; he only knew that experiments were being conducted on the Space Station, but not the specific content of those experiments, let alone their progress.

Which made sense: if Deputy Manager Chang really knew what kind of experiment was underway on the Space Station, he basically wouldn’t be allowed to stay here.
