Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 686: Chapter 208 Arrangement

The item placed in front of Chen Ming by Bai Quan was something he was very familiar with.

It was precisely the Purgatory Core he had acquired not long ago.

Chen Ming feigned a few glances at the Purgatory Core and asked, ”What is this? Did you get it from the Mechanical Race?”

”The Purgatory Core, a core of a special type of the Mechanical Race. The name of that Mechanical Race is Purgatory Demon King.”

Although Chen Ming had previously used Spiritual Energy to learn the name of the Purgatory Demon King, he still couldn’t help but utter the sentence he wanted to say, ”Is the person who named it a teenager with delusions of grandeur?”

”Not necessarily. The translation team directly found the name in the relic documents.”

”Speaking of which, some data on rare individuals of the Mechanical Race that you might not have seen and various unpublished documents related to the Mechanical Race should be given to you.”

Chen Ming nodded and asked again, ”So what do you need me to do with this?”

”We need you to investigate the effects of this item to see if it can be used.”

”?”

Chen Ming was momentarily puzzled and said, ”I heard you mention that thing called the Low-Temperature Computing Engine before, which is also a relic used by the Empire in various Star Realms.”

”If the Low-Temperature Computing Engine can be used, can’t we figure out this Purgatory Core?”

Bai Quan explained, ”The situations with these two are quite different.”

”Although most of the Low-Temperature Computing Engine was found in relics, we never found any matching manuals.”

”Its usage method was discovered when we occupied the Mechanical Race’s frontline colonies, from the data on the low-temperature computing engines still operational in those Mechanical Race military bases.”

”Through analyzing and replicating those operational low-temperature computing engines, we gradually mastered its usage over a long time, and finally perfected it later.”

”The Purgatory Demon King is different.”

”It can control entropy increase on a large battlefield, turning the entire battlefield environment into a high-temperature purgatory.”

”This poses a great threat to us and must be a target to be struck down immediately. It’s impossible to capture it alive while it’s operational.”

”Even the residual Purgatory Demon King often chooses to self-destruct when the battlefield becomes completely uncontrollable, leaving us with nothing.”

”So we can only ensure there are no major issues on the battlefield by completely destroying the Demon King at the start of the battle.”

Bai Quan’s words seemed to prove they had attempted this before, but obviously with failed results.

”But the wreckage from its destruction doesn’t allow us to obtain information on the Purgatory Core when the Purgatory Demon King is operational.”

”Currently, no backup Purgatory Demon King has been captured during ground wars. Not one Demon King has survived to the end of a battle while remaining operational.”

”So we can’t observe enough detailed core operational data.”

Bai Quan further added, ”During battles, the entropy gathered by the Demon King severely disrupts the use of any sensory equipment.”

”Making it impossible to directly scan it on the battlefield.”

”Therefore, we can at most deduce the function of this core from the Purgatory Demon King, which is the entropy control showcased by the Demon King.”

”The actual usage of the core, its internal energy circulation, and the construction method for entropy control are difficult to determine.”

Chen Ming suddenly asked Bai Quan a question, ”How do you determine that the Purgatory Demon King is controlling entropy and not just creating high temperatures?”

”Have you ever seen an entire battlefield on a habitable planet remain at two hundred degrees Celsius for several hours?”

”This...”

Chen Ming hadn’t really seen that.

The Demon King he acquired before was obviously an ancient artifact of the Mechanical Race.

Perhaps due to interference by that Phase Giant Beast, the Mechanical Race’s investment in that colony had been somewhat lacking.

That Purgatory Demon King didn’t even have the core chip to carry the Mechanical Race’s consciousness, so it couldn’t do what a well-functioning Demon King could.

Since Bai Quan answered Chen Ming’s question, there wasn’t anything else Chen Ming wanted to ask.

Finally, he said, ”Are you sure you want to hand this over to me?”

Bai Quan understood what Chen Ming meant. It was already determined that Chen Ming’s Spiritual Energy could control not only spaceships but also any mechanical entity.

Thus, the Purgatory Core given to Chen Ming would belong solely to him once he came into contact with it.

However, from the beginning, the answer was already clear when Bai Quan presented the Purgatory Core.

”We’ve fought numerous ground wars with the Mechanical Race. This item isn’t that rare.”

”If using one or several Purgatory Cores as a cost can lead us to fully understand the operation of the Purgatory Core, I think it’s worth it.”

Chen Ming nodded, took the Purgatory Core from Bai Quan’s hand, and Spiritual Energy instantly permeated the core.

Under Bai Quan’s knowing gaze, the red patterns on the Purgatory Core in Chen Ming’s hand flickered with some micro light provoked by the Spiritual Energy Fluctuation.

Chen Ming withdrew the Spiritual Energy Fluctuation, and the micro light from the Purgatory Core fell silent again.

And Chen Ming spoke, ”So... this thing should count as an initial test aimed at me.”

”Selecting something relatively simple for me to research, to see if I have the capability to study other, more valuable items acquired from the Mechanical Race?”
